Your POV:
My shoes lightly tap against the pavement during my leisurely stroll in the summer dusk. Faint light from the horizon is the lingering remnants of the sun, which will not rise until the morning tomorrow. I take a deep breath as a cool breeze blows by and continue walking nowhere in particular. The only reason I'm out here in the first place is because my brother has had enough of my introverted behavior. He practically dragged me out the door, but he just doesn't realize the issue I have with being out in public.
It's nothing against the outside; I like the fresh air. The people, on the other hand, I can do well enough without. Sure, you've got a few good apples out there, but, in my neighborhood, I've got a bunch of annoying idiots who don't give a flying f*** about others. As if to prove my opinion on the matter, I notice that up ahead of me are two young boys poking and prodding at a defenseless animal. The poor thing is thrashing in desperate attempts at escape. I glare in disgust at their backs as I march over to the boys. How could I possibly stand by and watch that happen? Perhaps it's because I'm such a big softy when it comes to animals, but, either way, these kids are about to get their asses beat.
'Not on my watch, you little s***s!'
"Hey!" My shout catches their attention, causing their heads to whip around in my direction. They look arrogant with the look of irritation on their faces.
'Oh, I will take great pleasure in this.' My E/C orbs travel over to a tree I pass, and I can't help but smirk as I rip off a sturdy-looking branch.
'This should do nicely.'
"You better knock it off or else I'll have no choice but to beat you with this." Grinning evilly at my threat, I approach the duo, whose faces pale, with my eyes flaming in anger. Thankfully, they run off before things got ugly. "Dumbass kids," I mutter under my breath before looking down at the injured creature I heroically rescued. I set down the stick before crouching at the side of an unusually large, vampire bat with black fur and piercing, red eyes. The animal struggles to pick itself up, its broken wings trembling to hold up their weight, causing me to give a look of pity.
'Poor guy. I can't just leave him like this.'
"I've got you, buddy. Don't worry. I'm going to give you some help," I console while removing my unbuttoned grey and white flannel, leaving my white tank top underneath. I use the shirt to gently pick up the bat, not wanting to get rabies or something from it. As I stand, however, I note that the little beast looks clean for the most part, and he isn't even struggling in my hold. The animal stares at me with a twitching nose, seemingly gazing into my soul, leading me to feel entranced by the ruby orbs. I snap out of the trance quickly with the shake of my head when I felt my mind start to feel fuzzy. It's not the time to be spacing out. I turn around to head home.
'I wish I brought my phone with me, so I could find a vet. That'll have to wait. Hopefully, he'll be fine until I can get some help.' I glance down at the bat when it starts to squeak while adjusting to get comfortable in my arms.
"I'll take care of you. Don't worry." I give the animal a comforting smile while walking up to the front door. I notice the kitchen light is on, so Elijah is probably cooking dinner. I open the door slowly, hoping to avoid breaking his concentration, since I know how he gets when he's disturbed while making something. I kick off my red converse and ignore the hungry growls of my stomach as I sneak by, the smell of food wafting into my nostrils as I pass the kitchen. When I make it to my bedroom, I softly close the white door before approaching the bed.
I set the animal on top of the blue covers gently before unplugging my phone from the charger where I left it. Afterwards, I take a seat, immediately sinking into my plush mattress as I input my password and look up the nearest vet. Before I get too into my search, I feel a light tug on the hem of my tank top, leading me to look down. The culprit gives a small squeak before attempting to climb my shirt. I laugh softly at it while reaching for my flannel.
"Whoa there, little guy. I don't think you should be doing that. You might hurt yourself." Being careful, I remove him using the shirt before holding him out at arms length to get a good look. Again, I'm surprised by their lack of a struggle.
"You're a calm fellow, huh?" My brows scrunch together in confusion when I see that the bat's injuries had disappeared. There were no cuts or bent appendages on him anywhere. "That's strange. I could have sworn those boys left a few scratches on you." My thoughts are cut short by a loud voice from the kitchen.
"Y/N!" Brother dearest shouts, causing me to jump in surprise.
'Jesus Christ. I swear, he's got eyes in the back of his head.'
"What?!" At my loud response, the bat's ears twist back. Funny, it almost looks like he cringed too.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! I forgot bats have really good hearing," I apologize almost instantly as I set the animal back down on the bed.
"Dinner's ready!"
I sigh softly and look down at the beast that continues to stare up at me intently.
"Stay put, okay? I'll be back soon."
I stand up and head to the kitchen, leaving the creature alone in my room.
???'s POV:
My nose twitches as a savory scent fills my nose. It nearly made my mouth water as the woman leaves the room to eat. The room is covered in the smell of the female, making my thirst much more prominent.
'I'd recognize that scent anywhere. B/T, my favorite.' Being so close to her flesh made it difficult not to sink my teeth in then and there. Thank goodness, I have some self control. I don't wish to frighten her off, especially since she was kind enough to rescue me from those two heathens.
Seeing as she'll likely be gone for awhile, I take it upon myself to explore this new territory. My body enlarges to that of a man as my bones snap and grow to form the body of a human. The bat fur and wings sink into my pale flesh, and a sudden feeling of stiffness overcomes my body. Those dreadful brats had practically trampled me. Had it not been for my impeccable, healing abilities, I'd be in immense pain right now.
Inhaling that delicious scent yet again, I explore the blood bag's room. I believe the person that called out to her said her name is Y/N. What a charming name. It suits her well. I leave practically nothing untouched, opening drawers and her closet door, even looking underneath her bed to find more information on her. I take a mental note on her trinkets, pictures, and other things that tell me about her likes. I must say, she caught my attention quickly. I smile slightly.
'I believe I've found my new companion.' My eyes widen upon hearing footsteps approaching the bedroom door and hurry to open the window to set my plan in motion. I quickly transform back into a bat before it's opened. Thankfully, the formation isn't a long process.
Sadly, I cannot make it to the bed on time, so I remain perched on the windowsill as Y/N enters.
Your POV:
After dinner, I hurry back to my room and am left surprised when I find the window wide open. It was closed when I left, not to mention the bat is now on the windowsill instead of the bed, where I left him. The sight causes me quirk a brow as I shut the door behind me.
"How the heck did you manage to get all the way over here?" I ask rhetorically, obviously not expecting a response from the animal. The creature squeaks before jumping out the window, sending me into a panic. I race over to it and watch as the bat takes flight. I sigh in relief as it stares into my E/C orbs.
Like before, I feel like I've been put under a spell by its ruby gaze. Without even realizing it, I climb out the window as the animal flies backwards to lead me somewhere without taking his eyes off mine. Unable to control my own feet, I follow him with my vision blurred some. All I can see clearly is the bat. My concentration breaks when we turn a corner to reveal an empty street. My brows scrunch in confusion as I lean against a building and bring a hand to my head. With the bat now gone, I look around only to be knocked unconscious moments later.
All I see before blacking out are a pair of glowing, red eyes.
