Harlow looked at her mother as she thought of an answer

"Mom who is Happy Lowman?" Harlow asked as she looked at her mother sharply

"Where did you hear that name?" Veda asked looking away

"I was working at the bar and he thought I was you" Harlow said as she sat down on the edge of the bed

"Harley, baby you have to understand, I didn't ever think you two would cross paths" Veda said as she grabbed her daughters hand

"Who is he mom?" Harlow asked raising her voice slightly

"You both are just alike" Veda said reaching to touch Harlow's hair

"So he's my father?" Harlow asked

"Happy was such a great man when I knew him, he cared about me more then anything. And that is a lot to say about that man" Veda smiled

"What happened? That you kept me from my father?" Harlow asked

"Happy isn't a good man now, he was turning into someone I didn't like back then so I left, I didn't know I was pregnant with you until after I heard he did some time in Jail and I didn't want to burden him with a child with his line of work" Veda said

"He's still my dad. all those years I struggled with everything and you knew who he was the entire time" Harlow said

"I was protecting you Harley" Veda said

"I don't give a shit who you were and weren't protecting, I had a right to know who the fuck my dad was and here I am in my twenties and I meet my dad at a bar while his friend was trying to fuck me with his goddamn eyes" Harlow said standing up

Veda looked over Harlow's shoulder taking a sharp breath in "You let her talk to you like that?"

Harlow's head whipped around "I had a right too"

"I don't think you did. Where is the attention getter back at the bar? You sure didn't seem to have that mouth back there" Happy said walking into the room his eyes never leaving Veda's

"Happy" Veda said as Happy walked closer to her

"Veda, this my kid?" Happy asked his head bobbing toward Harlow

"Your spawn? absolutely" Veda smiled

"What's going on babe?" Happy asked looking at the machines that Veda was hooked up to

"I'm dying Hap, any day now" Veda said

"Kid, go out in the hall" Happy said looking back at Harlow

Harlow huffed it all the way down the stairs muttering things under her breath as she walked out of the doors and found an empty bench to sit on

"So, is it true?" Harlow heard

"Is what true? That your a creep?" Harlow asked looking up to see Jax standing in her sunlight

"Nah darlin I'm just a sucker for a pretty face" Jax smiled sitting next to her and taking out a cigarette and putting it in his mouth

"Mind?" Harlow asked taking the unlit cigarette out of his mouth and placing it in hers, Jax shrugging his shoulders, he already couldn't say no to her

"So you really Happy's kid?" Jax asked as he watched intently as she lit the cigarette

"I guess that's the rumor, how do you know my mom?" Harlow asked looking at Jax

"I don't I've just heard that guy talk about your mother ever since I've known him" Jax said

"She's dying" Harlow said looking away

"I'm sorry, I know those words don't mean shit in the circumstances but I know first hand, my dad died when I was in my teens any my brother died when I was seven" Jax said

"Oh wow, I'm sorry too then" Harlow said genuinely feeling sorry, Harlow never felt many emotions, ever since she was a kid as far back as she could remember she hasn't cried in a long time. but the thought of losing her mother the only parent that had been there since day one was dying and Harlow felt like Veda was taking a piece of Harlow with her

"It gets easier, not at first but if you ever need anything I am here. Even if its a shoulder to cry on" Jax smiled

Harlow chuckled "This girl doesn't cry dude"

"I can see a lot of Happy in you, granted you don't look anything like the guy but you've got his bad attitude" Jax laughed

"Funny, so what's with the weird vests you guys gay together or something?" Harlow asked

Jax bit his lip for the first time in his life he couldn't figure out if a female was flirting with him or if it was just a joke

"Totally not gay, I love women, its a motorcycle club my father and a few other members were part of the first nine" Jax said looking down at his hands

"Still sounds gay, lets ride around on motorcyles trying to pick girls up at a bar" Harlow laughed

"Have you ever ridden on a motorcycle?" Jax asked

Harlow opened her mouth to answer

"You aint takin my kid on your bike, get that outta your head right now kid" Happy said walking over to the two of them

"Oh now you wanna play daddy?" Harlow asked rolling her eyes

"How did you get here?" Happy asked

"I drove, I can do that you know" Harlow said leaning back and crossing her arms

"Listen I'm not here to  boss you around, your mother says that you sleep here because the bank took your house?" Happy asked

Harlow let out a low growl, the Lowman growl

"I've got a room at the clubhouse you can stay in for now, once I get some more money I will get you a place" Happy said

"Listen I didn't have you growing up I don't need your help now" Harlow said standing up and walking away

Happy rubbed his freshly shaven head, stuck on what to do. Upstairs Veda had asked Happy to look after Harlow after she was gone, even though Harlow was in her twenties Veda always worried that she would end up like Happy

"Let me talk to her, grieving child to grieving child that's it man" Jax said standing up

"Five minutes, your not back here in five then I cut your dick off and shove it down your throat" Happy said sitting down on the bench

Jax jogged over to Harlow who was almost near her car

"Harlow wait a sec" Jax said

"I'm set with being bossed around by someone who didn't even bother trying to find me" Harlow said

"Listen, he tried find your mom for years, that's all I heard since he got transferred from Tacoma, Veda this Veda that he knew he had a kid out there somewhere he just was looking in all the wrong places" Jax said fixing his hair

"You're just saying that" Harlow said

"No, not at all. Happy is trying just give him a chance, if he didn't care then he wouldn't be here" Jax said

Harlow bit her lip she didn't know what to do, she wanted to get the hell out of here and never look back but there was a part of her that wanted to stay and get to know Happy Lowman, as her father something she never had growing up and there he was standing right before her asking for a chance

"Tell him fine but he is buying me dinner" Harlow said as she opened the car door before looking back at Jax

"See ya around pretty boy" Harlow chuckled as she sat in her seat, Jax grabbing at the door

"Who you calling pretty boy?" Jax asked

"You, you don't look like some badass on a bike, just some preppy dude trying to be one" Harlow laughed as she forced the door closed

Leaving Jax confused on what to think of this woman.
