There's a misunderstanding

I was left speechless at the sight before me. Consumed by shock, my body had momentarily forgotten to breathe. The scene I was met with was not pleasing in the slightest; if anything, it was horrific. (Y/N) had been acting suspicious lately, but never would I have guessed that she'd been having an affair; and with Trancy, nonetheless.

 ~

"Sebastian, did (Y/N) mention anything about going out, I haven't seen her since breakfast."

"She did not, My Lord," or, "Yes, I believe she left around an hour ago. She did not inform anyone where she was headed, however."

Those were the responses I've been receiving for the past month and a half. She had been mysteriously leaving and mentioning nothing of it; I was beginning to get suspicious. Yet this. Doing something so immoral is so out of character for her... and if she had to have an affair, why with him

   ~

"I'm gonna go out." She would say once she's finished her work.

     "Where are you going?"

"Someplace, out in town." She'd respond; never a straight answer.

I was never directly told where she was going, or what she was doing; she would escape the question or give vague answers.

 ~

Work had once again required me to play a game of chase with a criminal. Slowly stalking him, Sebastian and I had been trailing behind him, waiting for an opportune moment to capture him out of the public eye.

Just as the man had walked into a small alleyway in between two buildings at a shopping circle, I had seen it. Caught of guard, I could do nothing but stare. They had been sitting on the rim of the water fountain, talking and smiling.

If I tried, I could somewhat make out their words.

I watched for a few seconds before Sebastian spoke, "My Lord," Looking at him, he continued, "If we are to catch him, we must keep up; we do not have time to spy on Lady (Y/N)'s affairs."

Oh, how ironic the use of that word was...

I couldn't let this go, yet I couldn't disappoint the Queen for such a trivial matter. I didn't want to believe what she was doing was an act of disloyalty and dishonesty, but the conversation allowed no other thoughts or other possibilities to come to my mind.

I told Sebastian to continue on and take care of the man, I was to stay here and watch. Look, not be seen, and only listen; those were my goals here.

This whole ordeal had surprised me.

   2nd P.O.V

"Isn't it about time you broke up with that Phantomhive brat?" Alois asked.

"I am not breaking up with Ciel, Alois..." You sighed.

Sadly, that's not what a specific eavesdropper heard: "Isn't it about ___ you broke up with ___ Phantomhive __at?" That was all Ciel could make out, "I _____ breaking up with Ciel, ___...." He noticed your exhausted expression and your sigh; Alois also seemed to be displeased. Was Alois upset that you had not broken up with him yet, and were you merely tired of his nagging?

"Why not? You deserve much better than him." He said.

"Well, I don't want better than him. Now can you please stop insulting him, that's not why I asked you here." Work had sometimes caused you to collaborate with other companies and other nobles, Alois happened to be one of the nobles you were to collaborate with. You two actually had to do so multiple times and were able to become decent acquaintances through such.

"Right, right... you wanted to get him a gift...?" Alois sighed. You nodded. "Why? You're wasting your time for that. Ciel's not one for gifts."

True, "Yes, but I suppose it's more for me than for him. My mother and father used to spontaneously get one another gifts; they liked the gesture and to see the look on the other's face. I want to do that!"

Alois shook his head, "Hmm... he's not really one for wanting something... if he did desire something, he would've already bought it." Alois brainstormed.

Alois was the only other person you knew that had been fully aware of Ciel's dark side beside Sebastian. You wanted to get Ciel something interesting, something he'd be impressed with.

"You are right about that..." You mumbled, "Any ideas?"

"Maybe... A dress? Yes, Ciel would surely like a new dress!"

Caught off guard by the ridiculous and sarcastic thought, you giggled. As various images of Ciel in a dress entered your mind, your voice escalated into an uncontrollable laughter. "Really? You can be so funny Alois! Just imagining it...! Oh, no!" You tried to stop laughing , but more images of Ciel in a dress passed your mind, making it hard.

Most of what Alois had said, Ciel didn't hear. All he noticed was that you were laughing from something Alois had said, and Alois looked pleased with himself. He didn't like this ... "You ___ so funny, Alois! ______"  He was not happy about this, at all.

"If that's a no, then maybe we can find a nice dress for you, instead, to wear, so that when you give him the gift, he doesn't notice how bad it is!" Alois grinned.

Yet again, Ciel heard your conversation incorrectly, "Maybe ___ a nice dress for you ___ to wear, so that when you ____ the ___ he doesn't _______!' Although he couldn't hear the words well, he chose to substitute the words "tell", and "news" into the 3rd and 4th blank.

As he tried to comprehend what you both were discussing, he came to the conclusion that you were planning to wear a lovely dress when you were breaking up with him. "Do they honestly think that will make her message any better?!" Ciel mumbled.

You rolled your eyes, "The point of thinking about what to give him, is so that the gift isn't bad in the first place!"

"Riiight... Perhaps... if you are able to find a creepy, weird board game, he would like that?" He had suggested.

Pausing for a moment, you thought about it. The idea of a creepy board game with Ciel matched so delicately. If it had been based off of strategy...

"I love you, Alois!" You shouted. "That is a great idea!"

Staying with Alois for a few minutes longer, simply discussing where to look for such a thing, you gave him a peck on the cheek before leaving to find the board game.

It was no surprise that your 'confession' was the one sentence that came out of your mouth of which Ciel heard every word properly. Luckily, he didn't witness the kiss.

As you and Alois discussed places that may have the gift for sale, Sebastian came back, the perp. in hand.

Ciel had returned to the manor with many confusing emotions that day.

   ~

After searching many shops, you finally found the item. Avoiding Ciel entirely once you arrived at the manor had been your plan, but once you reached the second floor, it decided to try and fly out of the window.

"(Y/N), I must have a talk with you." He stated.

"Oh, um, Ciel. Could it maybe wait? I need to do som-" You nervously asked, attempting to escape from this meeting. With the box closely held to your chest, you could only hope that Ciel was not able to tell what it was through the bag.

"No. It's important: it is important that I finally inform you that we are no longer to be in a romantic relationship." He replied. His voice had no sign of regret, hesitation, or care, it was just monotone.

         "...What? W-why!?"

"No need to act surprised. I know about your affairs with Trancy. There is no need for you to go on sneaking, you are free to be with him."

"Trancy...?" You tried to think about anything involving Trancy to which he could possibly be talking about, "So you saw that!? Do you know what's in this box then?" Apparently, you had been a bit more concerned with the fact he may have known what his gift was, rather than the fact he was breaking up with you.

"A dress...?" He asked. Although his voice was still monotone, a hint of uncertainty showed.

You stared at him blankly before laughing, "You think I got you a dress?! Oh, yes, what a wonderful gift! For you Ciel, I got you a wondrous dress, I'm sure you'd look so ravishing in it!" You teased.

"Not for me, for you." He mumbled, confused.

"I bought a dress for me to wear... as a gift for you...? What?" You were clearly confused, "Ciel, what exactly did you witness?"

It was then that all the incorrect hearing and ideas came out, only to be corrected.

"Ciel, I wouldn't do such a thing to you; I still love you just like always, I do not believe this will change for quite some time, do you understand?" Handing Ciel the bag you were so protective of, you watched his every facial expression as he revealed the gift.

There wasn't much emotion at first, but then Ciel began to look at it precariously before snickering. "A game?"

"The type of game you like, yes?" You asked with a hopeful stare.

"I'll admit, this is an interesting present."

"Really!?" Your voice raised in both volume and octave.

That was all; that was all you needed. That slight change in expression, and that slight praise. The reaction wasn't the one you used to day-dream about, but it was Ciel, and for him, that reaction was amazing. You even knew that he would never act as animated as you day-dreamed about, but such expressions and words don't fit him, anyhow.
