Bitter sweet love with the king (chapter two)

After talking to Elvis on the phone i went back down to the lounge room to see my father doing some word searches from a newspaper and my mother tidying my sisters toys up off the hallway floor,I made my way to the kitchen to get myself a snack and a drink,"Darling' who was you speaking to on the phone for an hour?" i placed my snack and drink down onto the grey tiled island in the kitchen "No one important mama, Just my boss asking me if i can go out of town for a few days for work" I knew if i said Elvis invited me to see him at the show recording my parents wouldn't believe me nor let me go, I hate lying to them both. "Your father had been waiting to make an very important business call sweetie now he cannot do it!" she said in a stern voice. I headed up to my bedroom telling everyone goodnight, I changed my vinyl on the player to the Andrew sisters and turned the volume down a little bit so i wouldn't disturb anyone in the house, I got undressed and swaying to the music of these angelic voices while getting dressed into my floral printed nightdress, I sat at my white vanity table taking my old makeup off and pinning my hair into curls, I crawled into bed leaving the the vinyl spinning.

It is now Wednesday morning i was woken up by my mother knocking on the door,"Dorothy it's 7:30 time to get up" I turned onto my side and burying my head into the pillows on the bed refusing to get up, "DOROTHY GET UP RIGHT NOW!!" Angie screamed at the top of her lungs, She climbed onto my bed and starting jumping up and down, I grabbed her legs so she would fall down and just cuddled her nearly falling asleep, She jumped over me and grabbed the cup of water i still had on the side of my bed and poured it all over me, She quickly ran out of my room and locked herself in the bathroom.I pushed my bed covers off me and started banging my fists onto the bathroom wooden door "You better hope i don't catch you soon or you're dead" i could hear her giggling on the other side of the door. I walked back into my room slamming and locking the door behind me. I ripped my soaking bed sheets off and placed them onto the floor so the maids or my mother could replace new ones for when i get home. I turned the record player off and looked outside and saw it was still snowing,I took the pins out of my hair brushed the curls out so they wasn't so tight and put on some bright red lipstick i had bought the other day and put on my black tights and black dress then headed down stairs.

I got to the kitchen and there was a plate of toast and freshly squeezed juice placed on the dining table, i grabbed a napkin and placed two slices of toast into the napkin and quickly downed the freshly squeezed juice, I looked at the time it was 7:55 'Fuck! i'm going to be late' i shouted hoping my parents wouldn't hear me. I ran out the door grabbing my bag and fur coat while trying to slip my shoes on. I reached into my bag to grab my car keys and headed to the studio. I got to the studios just in time, there was a mob of girls waiting outside of the studios and it was only 8:10 in the morning. I Pushed my way through the crowd and opened the door hung my coat up and placed my bag under my desk,There was a cup of hot coco placed onto my desk. "Morning Dorothy" Marion said in her soft voice as she places a file down onto my desk, I took a sip of the hot coco "Morning Marion! it's going to be a long day i take it" "Sure thing Elvis is in the studio again today" i sighed. It was now midday i had finished writing letters to clients and sorting the bills out, I all of a sudden heard a the group of girls screaming at the top of their lungs i could only guess it was Elvis so i grabbed my bag and rummaged through it trying to find my lipstick and compact mirror and a pack of mints, i quickly reapplied another layer of lipstick then placed a mint into my mouth, "Oh boy here we go Morion you ready?" I chuckled "I sure am Dorothy".

The door swung open and Colonel pushed Elvis,Scotty,Bill and the The Jordanaires.I stood up from my chair and kissed each of them on the cheek while giving them a quick hug "Hello baby girl you've been on my mind all night" Elvis whispered into my ear as he squeezed my petite body. Morion quickly escorted them all to the recording room to get them out of sight from the screaming mob " Dorothy will you please close the door" i quickly grabbed the spare keys from the wooden rack and locked the doors.Elvis kept walking in and out of the reception area but i tried my best to ignore him. I felt that i had to keep business and pleasure separate as it wasn't professional i just really didn't want to mess my first job up,He tried everything he could do to get one little bit of my attention by throwing paper balls,pens and pencils i was trying to keep my cool with him but he just wouldn't stop, He finally left me alone to some work.

Morion came back into the reception after spending a few hours in the recording room with the boys,She had a big smile on her face "Dorothy be ready by 12:30 we're going out with Elvis for lunch! and the others" "Do i really have to go Morion, I've got a ton of work to do and going out to lunch with Elvis is the last thing i need to be doing right now." I sighed.

"This is why were going,You don't need to be sitting at the desk for hours straight dealing with bills! come on it'll be fun! you don't want to let the clients down do ya".

It was 12oclock, I could hear them playing That's alright mama,My heart was pounding, All i could think about is all the bad scenarios that could happen like my spilling a drink over Elvis by accident or dropping food over myself, I hate to admit it but i am falling for Elvis, I've only known him for a day and have barely spoke to him, I have never fallen for someone so quick.

"You ready Dorothy?" Morion said as she tapped my shoulder, I stood up pushing my chair out and sorting my dress out,"I guess so" I stuttered, Me and Merion made our way Colonels car,We sat in the car waiting for the boys we turned on the radio and Shirley Ellis-The name game came on,We started to sing to each other as if no one was around,We turned the volume up so loud we couldn't hear any traffic on the road beside us,Me and Morion got too carried away we was doing the hand jive actions to The name game. We was having such a good time we didn't even notice the boys were standing outside the car,They were laughing there heads off, I buried my head into my hands with embarrassment. "Sorry Elvis i'm gonna have to manage these girls instead of you,Your time's up sonny boy" Colonel said as he was getting into the drivers seat. I sat on Elvis's lap in the car as there wasn't any room on the back seats and Morion was in the front with Colonel with breif cases in between them.

Elvis slowly wrapped his arms around my waist then locking our fingers between each others hands, he leaned his head onto my back and squeezing me.Everyone was singing along to the radio and just having a stress free time. We finally arrived to the resturant, It was one of Elvis's favorites resturants, No one else was in here apart from us,seemed a little weird at the time,We sat at a booth.We all ordered our food and drinks,Elvis kept rubbing his leg against mine. I kicked him in the shin i mouthed "stop it" "sorry" he mouthed back with a grin on his face, i shook my head.Everyone seemed to be getting along but there was tension between me and Elvis. Lunch arrived i was so hungry my sandwhich barely lasted 5 minutes on my plate.I asked to be excused from the table to go to the bathroom,Morion followed me,We stood at the bathroom sinks,looking at the mirrors on the wall fixing our hair and make up "What's up with you and Elvis? There seems to be alot of awkwardness between yous two!" "Sorry Morion,I just don't know how to handle being around so famous like Elvis" "Don't worry darling you'll get used to it he seems to take a liking to you" "Are you kidding me Morion?! I bet he likes these beautiful actoresses and musicians,Not some girl who isn't even getting paid at her first job! i'm the last kind of girl he'd like" a waitress walked in "i'm sorry to disturb you girls but can i ask you a huge favour, I'm one of Elvis's biggest fans and so is my daughter can you please get a signature!" Morion agreed to get her a autograph,They both left the bathroom and i was stood there fixing my hair.

A few minutes later i left and waiting outside the door was Elvis, I rolled my eyes when i saw him, "Hi Dorothy are you okay?you're acting weird and i'm not sure, i'm not used to getting the cold shoulder from a beautiful little lady" "That's the thing Elvis you're so used to getting girls at a click of the finger and i'm not that kind of girl" "Can i ask you to come out with me? just one night? please dorothy i'm begging you" "Okay sure just aslong you let me do my work at the studio" i said with a grin on my face. We made our way to the table to find no body sat there.. I turned to face Elvis "Elvis theres one thing i need to say..If you're going to take me out you're going to have to meet my family first.." "sure thing dear anything for you" he pulled my closer and hugged me tight and kissed me on the forehead, We left some money and a tip on the table with the bill and ran to the car as it was raining.

"Thanks for leaving us to pay for the bill you bastards" Elvis jokely said, We all piled up into the car and the boys dropped me and Morion off at the studios. "I'll call you later babygirl" Elvis whispered in my ear as i was getting out the car. I stood outside the studios in the snow waving the car goodbye while Morion lit a cigarette up "Want a smoke Dorothy?" I shook my head as i refused her offer. I walked into the hot studios and Sam was there "Hey Dorothy can i talk to you please? in my office" I got nervous it was like i was getting to the head heachers office in school again. He stood in the doorway holding his thick wooden door open for me. I sat myself down at his desk as he closed the heavy door, "Dorothy don't come in tomorrow the studios is closed till next week we're refurnishing the studios and i'd like to talk to you about your wages" i was there only for two days "Morion said you've been going a great job and i'd like to have you as a full time assisant with a full wage $700 dollars a month" my mouth dropped in shock "are you sure?! that's alot of money" i stuttered "Yes darl' i'm sure! now getta here, i'll see you next tuesday at 8:30! don't be late!" I ran to the other side of the table hugging Sam tightly! "Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!" I nearly started crying, I can finally start up for my own house and money for traveling to the places i wanted to go even though my parents werent short of money i always felt wrong for asking them for money.

I walked out of the office and Morion was still outside smoking talking to people,I ran up to her and gave her a tight hug "i love you!! thank you" i shouted at the top of my lungs, She started laughing "I take it Sam has told you then!" "i'll see you next week Morion i need to go home and tell my mama!" i shouted as i ran to my car, I started the engine and pulled out of the car park, That's alright mama came onto the radio i turned it up loud and was singing along, I pulled up to my drive to find my mother outside shoveling the snow off the steps to our door steps. I jumped out of the car "Guess what mama!!" i screamed "What's up darling! the way your screaming the neighbours will think you're being murdered" "Sam Is going to start paying me $700 a month starting from next week!" my mother ran towards me and pulled me close to her "babygirl i'm so proud of you!! you gotta tell your father!" i ran into the house dropping all my belongings onto the staircase running up the stairs to my parents room,I found my father laying in bed asif he's just woken up from a nap, "Father guess what! Sam has offered me a paying job only after two days of working there" i kicked off my shoes and jumped onto my parents queen sized bed he pulled me closer for a hug and a kiss on the forehead "i'm proud of you sweetie" i've never heard my father say he was proud of me.

I jumped up from my parents bed and made my way to my bedroom.My bedroom had a ensuite bathroom, i went in the bathroom to take off my make up and slipped off my dress and got into more comfortable clothing, I climbed into bed and took a nap as i was so over whelmed from all the excitement today.
