"Mr Taylor, congratulations, we've secured investors for up to one hundred million dollars, it's been a hard day, rest well" I smiled and mumbled a small 'same to you' while putting down the phone.

Managing two companies has proven to be a much more difficult task than I thought, especially when one is already established and needs to meet the expectations of its customers and the other one is still in the process of making its customer base.

My body was aching and my eyes were hurting, I wanted to go back to the bedroom and hold princess in my arms.

That's all I need to recharge.

I sighed looking at the various contracts that sat on my desk, still unread.

Since the decision to revive the company has been made, It's been tiresome.

I feel passionate about the company but there's only so much I could handle, leaving princess alone is still not an option and doing everything from home becomes tiresome.

Sierra has been doing better, I've started leaving the house for small bits of time and have tried to gradually increase it so that Sierra feels comfortable but with everything going on, it's been stressful.

I sighed as I look at the clock on my table that read 1:13 am.

Great.

I closed my eyes for a few minutes and picked up all the contract files, to go through one by one.

I was on the second file when the door of my office was pushed open and there stood princess look at me with soft doe big eyes.

I knew she had trouble sleeping, it was more about me than her.

She had started paying attention to my sleep and work schedule recently and never said anything about it but tried to make her day cycle match mine, if you questioned why she did it, she'd tell me, 'I'm your superhero'

I smiled softly at princess as she walked towards me and almost immediately slumped down on my lap wrapping her hands around me and getting as comfortable as possible.

Instantly my spirits went up and an urge to protect surrounded me.

Something about Sierra provokes my instincts to protect her even though she does not need it.

She's a queen herself, and I know she does not need any protection. All she needs is love, but to me, she feels like fragile glass.

One, that I am bound to protect.

I looked down at the small but strong fighter in my arms and tightened my grip around her, it must be uncomfortable to sleep like this.

I looked at the files in front of me and decided to leave them for tomorrow, priorities first.

I quickly got up and headed to the bedroom slowly, making sure not to shuffle around much. The pain in my back was still very much there, but Xander said that I should continue doing my daily activities and that it's completely safe.

I put princess on her side of the bed and slipped into the other side and immediately felt hands wrap around me, home.

This is home.

After some time, I was almost asleep when I felt the bed rustling beside me and Sierra pulling away from my embrace, I ignored the constant shuffle a few times but the sound continued so, I decided to see what's wrong.

"Princess...?" I called out, and suddenly the shuffling stopped.

"I-I'm sorry" Sierra whispered and turned back to my side while continuing "cant s-sleep"

Even though the lights were dimmed I could almost see the pout gracing my loves adorable face making me smile.

I quickly got up and put on my slippers while picking up my phone and making all the arrangements.

"W-what?" Sierra asked, making my smile widen, I love how she has started talking more often recently.

She talked in small phrases and words, but they meant the world to me.

"Trust me, okay?" I said and pulled princess with me to the kitchen and poured out two glasses of juice since the weather was already hot.

I passed one of the glasses to Sierra and went up to the second floor while she followed me until we reached the pool.

I checked the temperature to make sure that the temperature I had set on my phone for the pool had actually synced in and sure enough, it was.

I sat down along with princess at the edge of the pool and both of us dipped out legs into the Luke warm water while the stars greeted us from above.

"Do you remember the last time we used the pool? I think it was pretty late, back then too" I said, smiling at the memory

"Well, emperor penguin's are very good swimmers, the sailfish is obviously the best but you look like adonis and not sailfish, so penguins are better even though they are cute and not handso-"

I laughed out as the beautifully vivid memory came back to my mind, I looked beside me and saw Sierra almost smiling while staring at the stars.

I took her hands in mine, taking her by surprise but she did not pull back and instead shifted closer to my side while admiring the sky.

"Does the sky attract you that much?" I asked, finding the interest Sierra had in the sky beautiful, she looked down at me for a second and nodded while looking back at the sky.

"Well then, I guess, this Adonis can't hold your attention to himself, huh?" I said, cracking a smile and to my surprise princess looked back at me with a weird expression on her face.

"D-d-did you j-joke?" Sierra said, as her eyes got big making me chuckle.

"Y-you're p-prettier t-than sky" I laughed, loudly, at Sierra's statement.

"Well, good for our kids" I mumbled softly, making sure I wasn't audible to princess.

For some reason, the moment I saw princess in my office, my mood went up like usual but I felt...happier.

More than ever before.

Maybe it was the feeling, of someone waiting for me.

Caring for me.

Loving me?

"I wanted to tell you something," I said, while my grip around Sierra's small hands remained.

"Tomorrow in the evening, there's a party. We officially have investments worth one hundred million dollars for the company. Do you want to come?" I asked, to be honest, I wanted princess by my side, after all, she's my source strength but at the same time, I don't want to force her.

With everything that's happened, I know sierra needs time and that a crowded party is probably not what she's looking forward to.

I felt a sudden weight on my shoulder and I looked down to see princess leaning on me, completely.

"Do you feel sleepy, now?" I asked but got no response in return.

After a few more minutes, I stood up and took princess in my arms to head back to the bedroom.

Once we were both backs on the bed, in ran my hands through princesses hair softly "sleep now, love"

Princess snuggled up to be a more, "e-energy for tomo-tomorrow's p-party"

♥️

"Princess, you need to eat the salad too, it's good for you," I said, trying to convince Sierra while she shook her head.

"Please?" I requested and finally, she took a bite and chewed on her food while scrunching up her nose.

"Maya has to go home a little early today because she has to get Ian ready for the party tonight, do you think you can get ready without her help?" I asked Sierra, while she continued eating her food and looked at me frowning.

"I will come and pick you up for the party, princess but before that, I need to go to the hotel where the international investors will be staying to greet them beforehand" I explained while Maya came and sat with us at the table.

"Ian is very excited to meet both of you," Maya said making Sierra smile at Maya, "m-me too"

Just then, Mary sat beside Maya and joined in, smiling "umm, I can help Sierra get ready"

I felt my body tense up almost immediately at the thought of leaving Sierra alone with Mary without me or Maya around.

"Sure Mary, don't worry, I'll just go meet the investors now itself so that I'm home before Maya leaves and here to help you with princess" I said, casually as I got up and headed back to my bedroom to get the car keys and my tie while Maya, Mary and princess continued eating.

I quickened my pace and took the tie when there was a knock on the door, "come in"

I turned around to see Mary standing at the door while fidgeting with her hands, "yes?" I asked.

"I'll be straightforward, Alex, do you feel uncomfortable with the idea of leaving me alone with Sierra?" Mary questioned while I shrugged in response.

"With all due respect, I understand that you've raised Sierra, and I am very thankful for that but I have my own doubts and with princess, I don't take chances" I knew I was being harsh, but this is exactly what it is and the only way around with me is my honesty.

"I want you to be comfortable around me, Alex. Is there anything you want to ask?" Mary asked making me still.

I had a thousand questions to ask but, one irked me the most.

"We're alone in this room, you can be honest, Mary. Why did you not resort to police authorities when you were witnessing princess being abused right in front of you?" I asked, keeping my voice void of emotions and maintaining a strong eye contact.

"B-because it wasn't possible, Mr Vega, he had his roots dug up deep" Mary answered, making me chuckle sarcastically.

"You don't think that I'd believe that, that? You could have done a lot of things, maybe help Sierra run away from that hell hole, call someone for help...something...SOMETHING" I said sternly, as Mary started shedding tears.

"I-I had my reasons" I snorted at the response.

"What reason could be big enough to see someone go through hell every day, stop trying to fool me, Mary, I am not Sierra."

By now, Mary was sobbing but, I remained expressionless and void of emotions "you let her be abused by a monster, right in front of your eyes" I said, in anger.

"I-" Mary tried explaining but I cut her off "don't even try with the lame excuses" I scoffed, putting on my tie and getting ready to leave the room but just when I was about to step out, Mary spoke up.

"H-He threatened me with my child and husband, only he knows where they are. I-I w-wanted to p-protect m-my f-family. I've n-never se-seen my b-baby af-after giving birth to him b-but I p-promised him t-to p-protect him w-with m-my life. Funny e-enough, you remind me of h-hun. He s-should ha-have been y-your a-ge now"

I looked back at the Middle-Aged lady in front of me, who was now broken and sobbing "what's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"I w-was friends with S-Sierras mother, I- I was her c-caretaker and she w-was just like s-Sierra, a beautiful inside out. A-after her f-first miscarriage s-she suffered t-through d-depression and the d-doctors said she won't be a-able to handle separation a-anxiety and bad n-news. Back then, i-I got m-married to the most amazing p-passionate man I'd e-ever met and g-gotten pre-pregnant and I was forced to h-hide my pregnancy from Sierras m-Mom to stop her from remembering b-but Mr Vega h-he started t-turning c-crazy wanting to protect his wife. H-he took a-away my f-family from me and threatened me w-with the-their life. I lied to my husband and ran a-away in hopes to p-protect him and in r-return I was s-supposed to r-remain by Sierras mother's side since s-she was close to me." Mary explained, wiping her tears and walking herself down.

"Now that I think o-of it, I don't even know if m-my family survived a-and knowing Mr Vega he probably k-killed them b-but I'm a mom, Alex, I couldn't t-take a chance with my child's life. T-the funny thing is Vega t-told me my h-husband is n-no more and I-I don't even k-know where his grave is. How unlucky am I?" Mark said crying out loudly.

"I don't k-Know where my l-love is, I-I don't know I-If my baby I-is even breathing. What have I done to my life? I'm sorry, I can't do this right now" Mary said and ran out of my room.

Just how many lives has Vega played with?
