Chapter 13

Today Lucas and I were working on the nursery for Jake. Lisa and John decided that they needed more quality time with their grandson, so he is currently at their house.

Even though both Lucas and I were supposed to be working on the nursery, he called Brian over to help because I was only allowed to read out the instructions to build the changing table, rocking chair and the crib. I wasn't even allowed to paint his room because the fumes weren't good for the babies.

Brian had been here for a few hours seeing as it was already mid-day and they were trying to get everything done today, which would be easier but they're barely listening to my instructions on how to make the rocking chair because it was 'so easy' .

"Dude are you sure it goes there?" Brian asks Lucas.

"Of course I'm sure. Where else would it go?"

I don't know maybe in the right place.

"Bro that doesn't look right." Brian said looking at the picture of the chair on the box.

"Well where do you think it goes then?"

"I don't know! I am a businessman, not Bob the Builder."

Seeing as I'm not allowed to do anything I set the instructions on the floor and went into our bedroom in search of my phone. Once I found it I decided to call Adriana.

After a few rings she picked up.

"I'm sorry the number you are trying to reach has been discontinued due to the absence of a best friend."

"Adri I'm sorry. A lot has happened and I've been really busy. Please hear me out."

She sighs but doesn't reply.

"Please I need you right now."

"Fine spill." I smiled knowing she would be won over since she loves gossip.

"So it all started after we went to the club because Derek cheated on me..."

I told her the whole story only leaving out the part about us not actually knowing each other.

"So let me get this straight, you slept with an old friend of yours, who happens to be a billionaire, and you're now living in his penthouse, pregnant with his twins and a almost step-mother to his child that he never knew he had."

"Long story short yeah." I reply lying back on the bed.

"Wow. That's fucked up boo."

"I know right." I feel bad for lying to everyone but I'm scared that telling them the truth will make them look at me differently, like a whore or something. Ending the call with her I walk back to Jake's room to see the boys reading the instructions to the crib, the rocking chair finished sitting in the corner.

"You see what "

"What time are we going to get Jake from your mom's house?"

"As soon as we finish the crib and changing table, so in about an hour and a half two hours." I look at the clock and see that it's 5:34, I go into the kitchen and eat some leftover stir fry with orange juice.

After I finished eating I took a nap on the couch only to be awaken by the front door closing. Checking the clock I realize that I took a two hour nap.

"Lucas." I call out into the house.

"Yeah?"

"Are you done?" I yelled back

"Yeah, I'll be right down." I waited a few moments before Lucas came down with a streak of blue paint in his hair.

"Lucas, you have some paint in you hair from this morning."

"No I was doing some retouching just now. It'll have to wait we have to go. Now." he said with an urgency walking to the front door. I followed him.

"What's wrong? Did something happen to Jake?"

"No, Maggie texted me and we need to go do some damage control."

When we got to his parents house I understood what he meant. You could hear the yelling from all the way outside and the door was closed and everything.

We walked inside to find Lisa and Melissa in a yelling contest.

"Why must you think that I always need your help? I've been doing just fine on my own mother!" I hear who sounded like Melissa yell.

"Well sorry if I don't want my daughter to never find love." Lisa rebutted.

"I don't need love mother! I am happy just the way that I am. I have a successful career and right now that's all I need."

"No, what you need is someone to love you."

"You pushing random men my way isn't going to help!" I single tear fell down her face, she made no move to wipe it away. Lucas walks over to comfort his sister.

"You are the only child of mine who isn't in some sort of relationship."

"Of course you're going to compare me to them. Just because I didn't want to be a interior designer like Liz or be some business mogul like Lucas."

"I just wish you would do something more in life." Lisa pleads.

"I am doing something more in life mom. I'm teaching children, I'm doing something that I love."

"You are a substitute. You don't have a permanent spot and I just want to make sure you have some one to look after you."

"Well you don't have to anymore because I've been offered a full-time teaching job-" Lisa cuts her off.

"That's wonderful but-"

"In California. I've been contemplating whether I should take it or not but this is just the break I need."

I've never seen either of them act this way before, Lucas has told me that they don't always see eye to eye but this is something new.

"Both of you stop this. Mel please don't be so rash, have you really thought this through?" John asks her in a soft tone.

"I really have and this is such a huge opportunity for me. It's been such a hard decision for me and this conversation gave me the push I needed."

"Are you happy dear?" he asks her.

"I really am."

"Then I support you." John goes over and hugs her.

"You may not be my real dad, but you're the best I could ever ask for." she hugs him back. Letting go of John she walks out of the house and shuts the door behind her.

"Oh, this is all my fault. I never meant for this to happen, oh John I just want her to be happy."

"Darling she is happy, why can't you see that?."

"Mom you know she's never been the type to settle." Lucas says.

"I know but still, I just thought that by giving her a little push she could find a man who really loves her."

"In her own time dear." John says as Maggie walks down the stairs with Jake in his carrier and his baby bag on her shoulder.

"Here is your child." she hands Lucas the carrier.

"Thanks Maggie. Well we should get going now, c'mon Jess." he takes my hand and leads me out of the house.

When we get back on the road I ask a question that's been on my mind for a while, "John isn't your father?"

"Nope. My dad hasn't been around for a while."

"I'm so sorry, I can't completely relate but know what it's like coming from a household where both parents are divorced." I say thinking of my parents.

"Do you ever talk to your dad?" he asks glancing at me.

"Not as much as I wish I did. I can't bring myself to visit him though, he has his own family now I would just feel like I'm intruding on this new life he built for himself."

"What do you mean?"

"He has a new wife and they have their own kids together. Being there makes me feel like I'm intruding in on a life I have no place in." we get back to the apartment and walk inside, Jake wines meaning he's hungry.

I go into the kitchen and start making his bottle. Once it was finished I went into the living room where Lucas was playing with Jake, I hand Lucas the bottle.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" he asks referring to our previous conversation.

"It's a long story." I warn him.

"Go for it."

"It started when I was sixteen, my dad started getting more and more distant from us. Going out late and coming home early in the morning, some time he would leave for days, I remember questioning him about it once but he said it was business. I knew my mom wouldn't divorce him because she always saw the good in him. When I was seventeen I heard my parents arguing in the kitchen, Jasmine told me to leave it alone but I needed to know what was going on, I wish I never went down. They were arguing because my dad had gotten one of his co-workers pregnant, he's been having an affair with her since I was sixteen." I take a deep breath and continue, "My mom got them to go to couples therapy, not that it worked, if anything it made it worse. They finally divorced a little after I graduated high school, my dad has tried to keep in contact with me and Jasmine but I just can't bring myself to see him anymore."

"Why not?"

"I've always been daddy's little girl, and seeing him do the things he did with me to some other little girl with a new family, it hurts. I won't put myself through anymore pain."

"Let's put Jake to bed." he smiles not wanting to dwell on the concept thankfully.

We put Jake to bed and then get into bed ourselves. I fall asleep in Lucas' arms and dreamt of nothingness.

New chapter and super long just for you. I won't be updating or the rest of month sorry. I really need to focus on school right now, I might be able to post if you're lucky and I have free time, but I'm not sure right now. How I got this chapter done is a mystery.

What did you guys think of this new side of Lisa? Do you think her actions were justifiable? What about Jessica's father and how she feels about him?

The picture is of Jake's room. Excuse the mistakes.

Have a splendid day, afternoon, evening and night.
