"What happened to your real parents?" I replied as I passed the joint back to him.

I normally don't smoke, I'm what people call an occasional smoker. I only smoke weed maybe once every couple of months. I could feel the drug slithering within my body relaxing all my muscles as I exhaled. The white vapor that exited my mouth traveled up into the starry night. I couldn't help but ogle it's beauty as Axel and I sat on the balcony of Nathaniel's hotel room.

The night sky was like a beautiful painting. Charcoal black covered the entire sky, with millions of bright flecks scattered throughout it. All the stars surrounded the moon like they were playing follow the leader. Bright lights illuminated from the skyscrapers surrounding us and the sound of cars below us was the only noise for a couple minutes as we continued to pass the weed.

"Honestly?" He questioned more to himself rather than me. "They probably died from an overdose on meth or died cause they couldn't pay their drug dealer."

"You believe they're dead?" I questioned as I turned away from the lights of the night to gaze at a different form of art.

He had pulled his golden hair into a man bun so the wind would stop forcing it into his face. The minimum stubble on his face was captivating. I wanted to reach my hand out and trace the line up on his face, it was weird. Just looking at this man, this man I know I can't have was causing feelings of desire to rise within me. His eyebrows were frowning as he thought over my reply. The moon was shining on his face giving me a perfect view of his eyes.

In the light they appeared deep, so deep you would believe you were gazing into the depths of the Amazon Rainforest. They were wild and free, like a jaguar chasing after it's prey. His jaw was set in a hardline as he took of puff of the intoxicating drug.

"I don't think about them. They don't care about me so why should I stress about what they're doing with their life." He shrugged as he passed me the joint before laying back.

He had one hand placed under his head, one of his legs laid flat on the ground while the other was bent so it could be at length with his straight leg knee.

"I can't imagine not knowing my parents," I retorted. The wind blew my curls into my face the smell of my shampoo invaded the air as I looked down at him. His intimidating green eyes pierced into my soul giving me his undivided attention. "They're definitely, not the best parents in the world but—I don't know—they're my parents and I still love them no matter how much they screwed Sebastian and I up."

"I'm grateful to Mav and Kenna for taking me in and raising me as if I was their own," He replied as I relit the blunt cause the wind had blew it out. "Honestly I don't know if I would've made it out of the area I was living in. There was gang rivalries—hell—I even got caught up in one of their fights it's how I got some of the scars on my back. I was starting to sell dope and handing out punishments for those who didn't pay Jerome—the boss—on time."

I took my dose of heaven before passing the treasure.

"We're not normal, not even close to being normal. Huh?" I questioned with a scoff ad I directed my attention to the sky.

"Normal is overrated."

"I don't know, maybe normal can be our future goal."

"How do you expect us to reach that goal? We're both the successors to our fathers clubs." He retorted as he took another drag.

"How do you know my father appointed me?"

"It's kind of hard to miss when you're by his side at every meeting involving Sons business, not to mention everyone thinks you're a drop dead gorgeous woman and they're shocked Matis has a daughter,"  Red rims were surrounding his green eyes as he spoke. "I'm still confused how Matis managed to keep you hidden."

"Matís." I corrected.

"Some of us aren't fluent in Spanish."

"Yeah but it's Matís," I replied with a shrug. "There is a difference."

He just looks at me with unflinching eyes, almost like he is in disbelief over the fact I'm willing to argue with him over my dad name.

"I forgot how good you are at trying to change the subject." He replied with a chuckle.

"That's not what I was trying to do," I feigned innocence as I turned my attention to the skyscrapers. "I was simply informing you on the correct way to say his name."

"Why did Matís hide your existence?"

Pondering his question, I began asking myself that same question. Why did dad want to hide my existence? It couldn't have been because he was ashamed of me because he has showed me his unstable love for as long as I can remember. All he ever said was he wanted me to take over after he retired. Knowing my father he most likely has a reason, and it'll most likely be something sinister or deceitful. Instead of replying to him I simply shrugged.

Just because I'm high right now doesn't mean my judgement is clouded. I'm well aware Axel is probably trying to soak information from me just like I'm trying to soak information out of him.

"Why has your adopted father not handed you the President seat?" I questioned after an eerie silence.

"Maverick? He loves what he do, he gets some type of pleasure out of destroying other people lives," He replied, after a couple seconds of silence I felt his eyes gazing at me. I looked away from the view in front of me so I could make eye contact with him. "Maybe his lust for violence and destruction has rubbed off on me."

He was looking at me in a foreign way. His eyes was displaying his humanity, emotion that I've never seen before was in his eyes. They're soft and warm, even with the red ring around his emerald greens they still managed to look like fresh wet grass. His stare was making my body flush with warmth, I'm sure he could see the red tint on my cheeks. I'm hoping he'll just think I'm cold. My heart is beating like a drum in fast tempo, since we no longer had any weed left my hands were free to become moist out of nervousness.

I sticked my hands inside my crisscrossed legs to dry them with his knowledge. My bottom lip slides in between my teeth as I try to divert my attention away from his soul grabbing eyes.

"Maybe I'm a product of my own destruction, because you can't blame others for problems that you can try to change. You know?" He sat up while he was in the midst of his dialogue.

Blame it on the weed but I think were both feeling deep or fake deep.

"I know the feeling of wanting to blame others for my problems when in fact I allow others to step all over me," I sighed as I looked up towards the sky. "I'm a pushover to an extent I continue to allow the people closes to me to hurt me in some type of way."

He remained silent as he listened to my words.

"Take you for example, I know I should hate you. I should throw you into a demonizing pit and put my heart in the victim category. I don't even think I have it in me to hate you. I put all my time and energy into despising Jensen, faking strength for my father and helping Bash help himself. I just don't have anything else in me I just feel lifeless." I ranted. I could feel cool forms of liquid strutting out of my dirt colored eyes.

I bring my hands up to cover my face so he couldn't see my fake strength crumble.

"I'm sorry I—" I can't even form sentences at this point. A choked sob becomes stuck in my throat, as I try to will it away. It takes every ounce of will to keep myself from completely shattering in front of him.

I have never cried in front of other and I don't plan on starting today. I feel warm hands tug on my wrist in an attempt to get me to drop my guard—figuratively and literally—for a brief moment I resist his demands.

"Listen to me Reign," He retorts as I allow him to holds my hands in his. A chemical reaction begins forming in the put of my stomach as I stare at him anticipating his next words. "You have this effect on others. Being around you makes a person who is typically made of steel want to comply to your every demand.

He releases my hands so he could brush his fingers across my brown cheeks, capturing the traitorous tears.

"I was on the verge of insanity before meeting you. You were—no—are a fresh beginning. For me you provide a new form of hope. I don't care if I have to beg you for forgiveness for as long as I live. I just know one thing and that's I'll do everything in my power to prove to you how sorry I am."

"Axel—" I made and attempt to reply but he cut me off.

"That was some good shit." He chuckled. "I'm going to have to ask Manny to get me some more of that type of weed."

I joined in on his laughing fest. "That was some good stuff. It has us baring our feelings and shit."

A mixture of vibrating and ringing grabs both of our attentions. He immediately drops his hands from my face so the both of us could conversant on our separate phones. Speaking of phones, mine is still cracked from around the time I first met Axel.

"Hello?"

"Mija?"

"Sí." I responded as I heard my fathers think Spanish accent flood from the other end of this receiver. A bunch of buttons keep being pressed in my ear much to my confusion. "Dad what are you doing?"

"Sorry mija you know I'm not good with these PhoneI's."

"IPhones, dad they're called IPhones."

He just grunted in response. "I need you and Sebastían to meet me in my office in no more than an hour."

"Why? What's going on?" I questioned in confusion.

"I was skimming through the security footage and I came across Charlie and Jensen having a heated conversation." He retorted with a hint of anger laced in his voice.

"What was the conversation about?" I replied as I stood up and dust my behind off.

"Something about a human trafficking ring and their father."

"Their father?" I responded with frowned eyebrows. "Jensen never told me he had a sister nor did him and Charlie ever appear as if they knew one another. She didn't even cry when she found him dead!"

At this point of my conversation I was heading back inside the hotel room. As soon as I answered my phone Axel went inside to answer his phone.

"What do you mean Charlie has a brother? I known her since High School she never mentioned a brother!" Axel yelled.

"Come home and call Sebastían he is avoiding my calls like a pinche puta." (F—ing b—h)

"Maybe he's avoiding your calls cause you're always yelling at him and you never say anything nice?" I shot back with annoyance.

"He needs to grow some cojones and man up. If he has something to say he needs to tell me you're not a messenger!" He barked before repeatedly hitting his phone in what I'm guessing is his attempt to end the call. "Mija hang up the phone I can't get this damn thing to hang up."

"Alright, she you in roughly forty five minutes." I replied before hanging up.

Axel and I got off the phone at the same time. We just looked at each other our high was officially ruined.
