Xavier:
My heart shattered into a million desecrated pieces.
The phone dropped from my hand. The sound it made when in hit the ground echoed in my mind.
Everything was in slow motion. I dropped to the floor, my legs no longer able to hold me.
I heard screaming. My door opened harshly, slamming into the wall.
I heard my mothers vague voice yelling at me.
"What's wrong, Xavier?!" She shook my shoulders to snap me out of it.
"Del-Delaney." I felt like I was taking my last breath.
My mother's face turned from confused to worried instantly.
"What happened?" She urged me impatiently.
"She was in a car accident. They don't know if she's going to make it." I explained slowly. The words were physically painful to say out loud.
My mother gasped. She grabbed my arm and pulled me up, bragging me down the stairs.
Geez, when did she get so strong?
"Zander, Maddy, watch Max. I need to take Xavier to the hospital." She ordered, moving towards the door.
"Why?" Zander inquired.
"What's wrong?" Maddy asked at the same time.
"Delaney's been in an accident. She needs him there with her." Mom explained.

We made it to the hospital soon after. As soon as we were parked, I jumped out the door and ran into the entrance.
There was a nurse at the front desk, so I went up to her.
"My girlfriends here." I stated, unsure of how to approach the situation.
"Name?" She questioned in a bored tone.
"Delaney. Delaney Taylor." I answered quickly.
"Room 204. Second floor."
I ran down the hallway, not worrying about my mother.
I decided that the elevator would take to long, so I ran up the stairs, taking two at a time.
When I got to her door, I heard talking.
It was quietly so I couldn't tell who was talking.
I opened the door cautiously. When I peeked my head, my eyes connected with bright blue ones.
Delaney.
I felt like I could finally breath. I put a hand on my chest, trying desperately to sooth my erratically beating heart.
"Baby" I breathed out. I rushed
to her side and grabbed her hand, holding it gently.
She tried to respond but started to cough instead.
"Shh, sweetheart. Don't try to talk." I said as I held a cup of water with a straw up to her.
"How is she, doctor?" I asked the man who stood patiently on the other side of her.
He had dark grey hair and a kind smile.
"She almost bled out because she had internal bleeding in multiple places. We did emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. After she passed out at the scene, she was burnt on the back from a fire that started. We're treating the burns. She should make a full recovery with some scaring. Her memory and brain function seems to be normal." He explained in easy terms.
"Thank you." He nodded and then left after that.
"She started yelling at me about her family liking me too much." I heard a small voice whisper.
I turned and saw tears brimming Delaney's big blue eyes.
I wiped the tears that escaped with the pads of my thumbs, leaving my hand to rest on her face afterwards.
I stared at her gorgeous face, and tried to memorize every little detail. The tiny freckles over the bridge of her nose. The royal blue specks mixed in her lighter blue eyes. Her cute peach lips.
"I don't know what I would've done without you." I whispered. I tried to blink back the tears threatening to escape, not wanting to seem stupid.
"Don't cry, love. I'm okay. I'm right here." Delaney spoke quietly, running her hand through my soft hair.
She pulled me down so that I was beside her, despite my protests. I gave up and laid on my back beside her.
She curled up on my chest, peering up at me cutely. A tiny smile displayed on her face.
I put one arm behind my head to support myself, and the other hand went on her head, massaging gently.
"Was it my fault?" She asked me, sounding broken.
"Not at all. I talked to Carter. He was the one who called me. He said Nathan's team had a report of the incident. Maya was speeding. It was her fault. No matter if she was mad at you or not, she shouldn't have gone and driven like that. None of them blame you. They wanted to come and see you but didn't know if you'd want them." I explained, knowing she needed to hear it.
Roof! Roof!
I heard down the hallway. I instantly recognized the bark.
Soon enough, a golden ball was sprinting at me and my girlfriend, full speed.
Milo laid his head on me and peered at Delaney, his tongue was hanging out and his tail was wagging.
Delaney giggled at him and pat his head. Captain Michaels, Scott, and all of the Thomas boys were soon in the room, standing around us. Their hands were filled with cards, balloons, and a giant teddy bear.
Delaney gave them a big smile, but I could tell she was nervous.
I continued running my fingers through her soft locks to calm her down.
"How are you?!"
"What'd the doctor say?"
"Are you okay?"
"Is she okay, Xavier?!"
Everyone was questioning us at the same time.
"Hey!" Captain Michaels yelled, loud enough to stop everyone's excessive questions.
"Now, tell us everything, boy." He ordered me. His tone made me feel like I was meeting Delaney's father, kind of like Scott had been.
"The doctor said she has burns on her back from the fire, and she had surgery to stop internal bleeding." I explained.
"So, are you okay?" Scott asked Delaney in a concerned fatherly tone.
I'm glad she has that.
"I'm okay. I'm sorry about Maya... everything." She apologized to Scott and the boys.
The Thomas family looked awful. Nathan held Ben and Luke held Dakota in a hug. Scott stood in the middle, holding everyone together. They had just lost their mother, but she had been at fault.
I could tell that the older ones understood that. They all looked pained by Delaney's apology.
Ben was the saddest to look at. He just looked confused. His mom was gone and he didn't understand why. He looked almost as helpless as Delaney.
Delaney's face just held guilt. She was in pain, probably more than I had ever felt. She had been through a traumatic event, once again.
But still she thought of everyone else first and foremost.
I admired her strength and bravery to fight the battles she did every day and every night.
I watched as Scott came over to the bed we were laying on, and took Delaney's face between his hands gently. He forced her to look him in the eyes and then spoke, sternly but lovingly.
"This was not your fault. We all know that-" he gestured to everyone around her-"Maya had a problem. She was manic and yelling while speeding excessively. It was her fault, honey. She was mad about me too. I was going to divorce her. I gave her the papers. So if anyone was to blame, it was me, not you, sweet girl." He lowered his voice.
Tears of happiness formed in Delaney's eyes at his words of reassurance. I almost cried for her. She deserved the love he gave her. I just hoped, for her sake, that it lasted forever.
