50| Pleased With my Geniosity!

"OKAY boys!" Coach Reid exclaimed at the end of practice as we were all gearing down. "State is this weekend. We have 4 days to prepare ourselves for the tournament. I'm not gonna put any pressure on you all to win, but..."

    "Let's fucking win!" Zane yelled.

Coach Reid cleared his throat. "I would yell at you about language, Zane, but honestly... I don't really care. THIS IS STATE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AND THAT IS THE GODDAMN SPIRIT!"

We all cheered and Coach Reid proceeded to stand up and do an awfully embarrassing dance. I cringed and took off my kneepads. "Coach," I started, "please, for the sake of the team, save the dancing for this weekend."

Coach Reid stopped dancing. "You're right, Locke. I've gotta save my moves for the big day! In the meantime, gear down and get some rest, boys!" Coach Reid left the gym, still dancing on the way out despite my suggestion. It was hard to get that man to stop dancing.

Zane stood up and started heading out of the gym. "I'll see you boys tomorrow!" He yelled and then sprinted out. We all knew exactly where he was going. And to key you in just a bit, he definitely wasn't going to get any rest...

The rest of us still sat in our circle gearing down. Porkchop sighed and laid down on the floor.

"State in 4 days," Charlie mumbled.

    "Literally insane," Lucas said.

Troy patted them both on the back and grinned. "Our little freshman boys are nervous!" He teased.

I rolled my eyes. "Please, if anyone's nervous, it's Clay," I said and Porkchop immediately sat up. He had always been the nervous one when it came to the state tournament.

"You can't blame me!" Porkchop exclaimed. "It's a big tournament, man! If we win, it means we own the state!"

Tanner facepalmed himself. "For the billionth time, PC... The state tournament doesn't mean that we're competing to see who gets to own the state of Georgia. It literally just means that we are competing to see who's the best team in the state."

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, right. You have told me that before," Porkchop said.

"Either way, even if you guys are nervous, we've got this in the bag," I said to Charlie and Lucas. "And if we win... expect some attention."

"Attention? What kind of attention?" Lucas asked.

"Uh, duh," Jordan said, taking off his volleyball shoes. "The attention of the ladies."

    "The ladies?" Charlie asked.

Jordan rolled his eyes. "Yes, the ladies."

"You know, the other gender," I said. "They're the ones with-"

"Okay, I know what you meant by ladies!" Charlie exclaimed, interrupting my sentence. "I just- why would we be getting attention from... girls?"

"Oh... young Charlie. Young, young Charlie... You have much to learn," Troy said. "When you play for the best sports team in the school and then you win the state tournament... you're basically God."

Cayden rolled his eyes. "Right, Troy. You're basically God. You're totally right," he said. "On a real note, my favorite Freshman, girls do kind of go crazy for us volleyball players. Especially at this school since the football players suck."

"Literally. They suck," I said. "They haven't won a game in 2 years."

"But we," Troy started, "win everything. At least, we have this season. And girls like winners. Maybe you'll even get some senior girls."

"Senior girls?" Lucas asked and we nodded.

    "Senior girls," Troy confirmed.

"Which gives you hope for prom," Jordan added. "If a senior girl invites you to prom... you're in, man. You're in."

"Speaking of prom..." Tanner said. "I'm gonna ask Bianca soon. I just don't know how to do it, you know?"

"Oh, I am so down to help," Porkchop said. "You know I love love."

"We know," Tanner said. "I'll need all the help I can get."

"What about you, Noah? You need any help asking the one and only Logan Pierce?" Porkchop asked, wiggling his eyebrows.

I rolled my eyes. "Trust me, I already know how I'm gonna ask her. I've been planning this sucker out for a while now."

"Really?" Charlie asked. "How are you gonna do it?"

"That is for me to know and you to find out once it's done," I said. "For now, I've gotta get home. Meaning, we have to get home, Cay. Amelia's making us mac and cheese!"

"I love your sister," Cayden said and we both stood up, pulling our volleyball bags up onto our backs. "Onwards! Seeya boys tomorrow."

We got into my jeep and started the drive home. It had only barely been a week since Cayden got kicked out of his house and he was still living with me and Amelia. I didn't mind at all since Cayden was practically family. And Amelia loved him, too. Cayden was always down to do face masks with her and make chocolate milk topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. I liked having Cayden around.

When we were about 5 minutes from home, Cayden decided to say something.

"Noah?" He said. "You know how all the guys were talking about prom and stuff... I think I'm gonna need your help."

"This is about Jeremy," I said. Cayden and Jeremy hadn't gotten back together since he'd been kicked out. You could say he was just a little bit (or a lot a bit) upset about what happened with his parents. But this was the first time Cayden had mentioned Jeremy since.

"I came out to my parents because it needed to happen, but I also did it for Jeremy. I really do love him, Noah. And I hate that we haven't been talking," Cayden said. "So I was thinking of a grand gesture way of asking him to prom, but I just don't know how to do it."

"I'll help you, Cay. I mean, everyone will help you. We want you two back together, it's all Logan can talk about, which is kind of a mood killer," I said jokingly.

Cayden laughed a little. "Sorry I'm a mood killer when you and Logan are making out or whatever, but really... thanks. I'll need the help."

"Well, you've come to the expert. Trust me, Logan's prom-posal is going to be everything she's dreamed of and more. So you already know that I'm gonna help you make Jeremy's epic," I said, patting him on the shoulder. "We'll start brainstorming when we get home. I'm sure Amelia would love to help over our gourmet boxed mac and cheese dinner."

"Your sister really is the best, Noah," Cayden said.

"I know. She's a ballet star and a top chef. How could I compete?"

"PROM IS THE BEST TIME BECAUSE GIRLS GET DRESSES, BOYS GET SUITS, AND THEY DANCE. AND THERE IS NOTHING MORE AMAZING THAN DANCE," Amelia sang as she skipped through the kitchen the next morning. She was in the middle of pouring herself a bowl of Rice Krispies cereal when I told her about my prom-posal. Cayden just laughed while he ate his own bowl of cereal.

"Noah's a genius, Amelia. A goddamn genius," Cayden said, mouth full of Cheerios.

"Right!" I exclaimed. "This is what I've been trying to tell her all these years of being mutual siblings!"

"And I still won't ever believe that you're a true genius," Amelia said, snapping her fingers. "Yes, I am giving you the sass at 7 in the morning."

"Is she giving me the sass at 7 in the morning?" I asked Cayden.

Cayden raised his eyebrows and shrugged. "I think she's giving you the sass at 7 in the morning."

"Why, I oughta..." I drawled, pouring some Hazelnut creamer into my coffee. "You know, I would give the sass back, but I just do not have any sass inside of me this fine morning. I am just too pleased with myself."

"Don't be so pleased," Cayden said. "You haven't even asked her to prom yet, you just keep talking about it."

"And I am pleased with my geniosity!" I exclaimed.

"That is not a word," Amelia pointed out.

"Agreed. I'm sorry, sir, but geniosity is not valid. We're going to have to disqualify you from the spelling bee," Cayden said.

"It's 7 in the morning. Words are hard. Words are even harder for geniuses like me," I said, sighing over-dramatically. "But words are important for my prom-posal, so I will drink this espresso and then head on my way. You'll be good for driving my car?"

Cayden nodded. "I've always dreamed of driving that Jeep... I mean, I've dreamed of doing lots of things in that Jeep..."

"Your dreams scare me," I said, then practically chugging my espresso down. I didn't realize just how difficult it was to chug espresso. That shit was strong. Just like my love for Logan.

Okay, that was a bit much.

"Alright, I must go," I said, leaving the kitchen and starting towards the garage. "I love you both! Amelia, have fun at school! Only beat up that rat boy Jimmy if he tells you that you suck at ballet again!"

"Don't worry, big brother! I've already taken care of Jimmy!" She yelled back right as I entered the garage. I didn't want to begin to think what she meant by that...

I opened up the garage doors and my new vehicle of choice for the day was parked right in front of me. Two wheels in all its glory. It was prom-posal time.

The drive to school took the usual 15 minutes and I already knew that Logan was there, thanks to Gracie. I could see the two of them standing outside the front doors of the school, not facing my direction. I could make my grand entrance. So I drove on and revved the engine on the jet-black motorcycle, pulling up and gliding to a stop. Logan and Gracie both turned around, Gracie grinning while Logan's jaw dropped open. I stood up from the motorcycle and walked over towards her in real-life-slow-motion.

"What the-" Logan started, but I interrupted her.

"I'm just checking to see if you're still human. You know, in case Edward turned you already," I said. "I guess it's my lucky day."

Her jaw dropped even wider. My Jacob Black prom-posal was going smoothly already.

"I know I've been ignoring your calls lately, but it was for good reason," I said, still doing my Jacob impression. I mean, I was down to every little detail. Wet hair, plain black T-shirt, jeans, and no helmet obviously (which actually terrified me because I have a crippling fear of riding a motorcycle without a helmet so I don't know why I didn't just get myself a helmet).

Just then, Cayden pulled up (perfect timing), so I went with my next line.

"I know you've never been an Edward girl, but I do know this: you are a torso and hair girl. And all torso-hair girls love Jacob. Logan..." I paused for dramatic effect while Cayden stood up from my Jeep and held up the sign I made. "Will you go to prom with me?" I asked.

Her attention was up at the sign that said Be the Bella to my Jacob, but the Plot Twist is That Bella Actually Falls in Love With Jacob and not Edward. So maybe it wasn't the catchiest sign ever, but it was genius. It was genius because I knew Logan and she loved Twilight. And I loved her. So, therefore, Jacob.

Logan rolled her eyes. "You are the worst," she said. "But I'll go to prom with you, I guess. Mostly out of pity, though."

"I'll take it," I said, leaning forward to kiss her quickly. "So was it too cheesy?"

"It was perfectly cheesy, Jacob," she said. "You even got the wet hair and black shirt down."

And this was why I loved her.

✯ ✯ ✯

Hell yes bitches, I made Noah become a real-life Jacob from Twilight because everybody knows they want a hot Jacob to roll up to their school and take them on a motorcycle ride. I. Love. Him.

So prom is coming up y'all and I am so excited. I have big plans, folks. BIG PLANS!!!

The next chapter is going to be the State volleyball tournament!!! Will the boys win or lose? You let me know... But I'm so excited about it.

PEACE.
