26| A Two For One!

"THIS is by far the coolest thing I've ever rode in," I said, my hair flowing in the wind as Noah drove.

After he insisted on driving, he brought me to the large garage and picked out the car we were currently in. It was a goddamn pink corvette. Like... are you kidding me? It was the most amazing thing ever. It surely put my little car to shame.

"Yeah I fucking love this car," Noah said.

"Never thought I'd witness Noah Locke driving a bright pink car," I laughed.

Noah looked over at me, lowering his sunglasses a bit. "You have a lot to learn about me, Pierce." He lifted his glasses back up and focused on the road, which made me glad because I could feel a blush forming on my face. Stupid, stupid cheeks.

We drove down the beachside road and I kept my gaze towards the beach and the ocean. It had been over 5 years since I'd visited any of the Florida beaches. My parents used to take Billie and I on vacation to some of the beaches here because of how much nicer they were. You can guess why we stopped going.

I held my arm out of the car, feeling the slightly nicer breeze created by the speed Noah was driving. He could definitely go a lot faster in this car. I wasn't going to temp him, though. The speed we were going was fast enough for my liking, and any faster would definitely get us pulled over.

We pulled up to a small grocery store and hopped out of the car to head inside.

"So," Noah started, grabbing a cart and looking over at me, "are you riding in the cart? Or am I?"

I raised my eyebrows at him. "Are you serious?"

    "Dead serious."

"Don't workers hate when people do that, though? Especially when it's dumb teenagers?"

"First of all, we're not dumb teenagers, Miss Pierce. We are, in fact, very smart teenagers," Noah said, and I rolled my eyes. "And second of all, I'm friends with the owner here. It's a little local store. So hop in before I do."

I laughed and then reluctantly got in the cart. Noah pushed me through the automatic doors and started heading towards the food aisles.

"So how do your parents know the owner?" I questioned, curiosity taking over me.

"We used to come here every summer and stay at the house, that is, until my parents started leaving so often," Noah said, pushing me down the aisle filled with chips. "This was the closest supermarket, and we became really close with the owner. His name is Bernard, we call him Bernie. It was 4 years ago when we came for the last time as a family, and the supermarket was going out of business. I begged and begged and begged my parents to help them out. And being the business people they are, they finally decided to save it by buying out the supermarket. It was hard to convince them, but I did everything I could until they did. They let Bernie keep it, but they kept it alive."

"Wow... that's really nice," I said.

"You sound surprised," Noah observed, reaching up and grabbing a few bags of different flavored chips. "You know, I do have nice bones in my body."

"I know," I said, looking up at him and smiling. He smiled back before going back behind the cart and pushing me again. "I've seen you with your sister, and sometimes you're even nice to me."

"I guess I am nice to you sometimes. Even though it's extremely difficult to be because of how infuriating you are," Noah teased, and I could practically hear his smirk in his tone. Asshole.

Noah grabbed 2 bags of Cheetos, even though Cayden had already bought some earlier for Clay. "Don't you think Porkchop has enough Cheetos?"

"Never put a limit on Clay's Cheeto intake," Noah warned. "Trust me, I've learned from my mistakes."

"I don't even want to know what that implies."

Noah chuckled and turned the corner to the fridge section. He walked over and grabbed a few packs of hot dogs and burgers, grabbing some buns as well. He handed them to me in the cart and I placed them around me. Noah then wheeled over towards the drink section to grab a few packs of soda. Apparently, he already had a bunch of beer at the house from last year when he visited with a bunch of his friends.

    "Brace yourself," Noah said.

"Huh?" I asked, but before I could say anything else, Noah was bolting through the store, pushing me in front of him. It was surprising how fast he was running. "Noah! What the hell?!"

"Don't ruin the fun, Pierce. It's tradition!" He yelled back, continuing to run with me in the cart.

Noah was swerving all over the place, and at this point, we weren't even shopping anymore. I smiled a bit because, somehow, it was fun. Noah finally came to a stop when we reached the empty checkout lanes. He walked in front of the cart, breathing hard, and then he collapsed onto the ground.

"Damn," Noah said, "I haven't done that in years."

I got out of the cart since we were about to checkout anyway. "So how is that a tradition, then?" I asked.

"I always push Amelia," he told me. "I came without Amelia once and I pushed Porkchop. Hell of a lot different."

    I laughed. "That makes sense."

Suddenly, an older man walked over towards us and took place behind the checkout lane. "Noah!" He exclaimed.

    "What's up, Bernie?"

    Oh, so this is Bernie.

"It's good to see you again, son. I wasn't sure I'd be seeing you any time soon. Your folks here?" Bernie asked.

Noah shook his head. "Still off on business trips," he said with a shrug. "I thought I'd come up with some of my friends since we're on break right now. Like old times."

Bernie smiled and his eyes flickered to me. "And who's this lovely young lady?"

"Bernie, this is Logan Pierce," Noah answered and Bernie's     eyes lit up.

"The Logan Pierce?" Bernie asked. "My God, the stories I've heard about you! You 2 really have had it out for each other!"

I looked over to see Noah's cheeks redden slightly. Ha-ha, he was a victim of the blush, too. I turned my focus to Bernie.

"He's the worst, what can I say?" I replied, and Bernie chuckled.

"You 2 seem friendly now, though," Bernie noted. "Friendly enough to have a little supermarket race, that is."

"Tradition, Bernie. Tradition," Noah said. "Logan and I just figured out how to not kill each other. Isn't that great?" He looked over at me and grinned.

"That is fantastic!" Bernie exclaimed. "Is it just you 2 for the weekend, then?" He wiggled his eyebrows and my mouth widened. Oh my God.

"God, seriously Bernie?" Noah asked, shaking his head as he took his credit card out to pay. "Not just us. It's not like that. A bunch of friends are here."

"Whatever you say..." Bernie drawled, then looking over towards me. "You keep him under wraps, okay? He can get a bit crazy."

    I laughed. "Don't worry, I've got it."

I smiled and looked over at Noah who rolled his eyes at me. "It's always a pleasure, Bernie, but I've gotta get back. I'll drop by before I head back."

Bernie saluted Noah. "Good to see you too, Noah. Make sure you tell Amelia hi for me."

Noah nodded and started pushing the cart out of the supermarket, and I followed behind. When we got to the car, we started unloading the grocery bags and setting them in the back area of the car. I hopped in the passenger side as Noah put the cart back in the cart return. He walked over and sat back in the car, putting his sunglasses on before revving the car to life.

"I like Bernie," I said, smiling over at Noah.

"Everyone does," he replied, and then looked over at me. Noah slid his sunglasses down the bridge of his nose. "You ever had a barbecue on a private beach?"

    "Can't say I have."

Noah smirked. "Then we'd better get back. Sunset's upon us, Pierce. Since you still have a lot to learn about me, might as well start with my favorite beach past-time."

✯ ✯ ✯

"Hey! Porkchop! Get back here!" I screamed. "God dammit, someone chase after him!"

"I've got it," Cayden muttered, and he started running after Clay down the beach.

I shook my head and sighed. "Unbelievable."

"So why exactly did Porkchop steal all of the meat we were going to barbecue?" Logan asked from beside me, reaching over and handing me a can of beer. I took it and opened it, taking a rather large swig before replying.

"He's basically like a dog," I said. "He loves his meat, and he gets super excited about grilling. He gets so excited to the point that he likes to steal all of the meat before it's even cooked, and someone has to chase him down."

"NO CAYDEN IT'S MINE! IT'S ALL MINE!" I could hear Porkchop yelling from a bit further down the beach.

"He really is a 5 year old," Logan muttered, sipping her own can of beer. "It's cute though."

I raised my eyebrows. "You think he's cute?"

"Oh, you know, in a lost puppy kind of way. He's so dense, yet so sweet, and it's adorable," Logan said. "Why? Jealous, Locke?"

I almost felt a blush creeping up on my face, but I quickly turned away to make it seem like I was looking for Clay again. "Not in the slightest bit, Pierce. You wish."

She scoffed, but dropped the subject. "He better come back soon or else I might have to beat him up."

"I bet you could," I said.

Porkchop was a big guy, but definitely a softie. He could never get in a real fight, and I knew that Logan for sure could. And not to mention, Porkchop has always been intimidated by Logan when she gets mad. He's told me on the court before, and it always made me laugh. Such a big guy being afraid of Logan's cute angry face.

I did not just call her cute. Did I?

I could see Porkchop running circles around the beach as Cayden finally gave up. He walked back over to us, panting from all of the running he had been doing.

"It's a lost cause," Cayden said. "He is a goddamn crazy person."

"No way in hell. I'm starving," Logan said. "Hold my beer." Logan handed Cayden her beer before she took off down the beach in Clay's direction.

I watched as she started chasing after him before finally jumping on his back and tackling him to the ground. Cayden laughed right as I could see Logan's hand gripping around Clay's neck. I saw Clay tap the ground twice and Logan finally got up off of him. A sad Clay then handed over the bags of meat to Logan.

"Holy shit," Cayden laughed. "She's not one to mess with."

    "No she's not," I agreed.

Cayden looked over at me and smirked. "Especially when it comes to her and some meat—"

I punched his arm before he could say anything else. "Go drown in the ocean, Cay," I said.

Cayden reached up and pinched my cheeks. "Aww, so cute when you blush, Noah! You should do it more often." And then he left in the direction of Jeremy.

I groaned and took another large swig of my beer. "Fucking Cayden," I murmured. Logan walked over towards me, waving the bag of meat in my face happily. "You're quite impressive."

"I know," Logan said, and I took the bag. "Time to get to grilling, then?"

"Yup," I said, starting to take the variety of meats out of the bag. "Now, you can watch me grill some meat and maybe help out or you can go hangout with everyone over there. Including the 2 devil spawn."

Logan and I looked over to where everyone else was hanging out. Savannah and Genevieve were there, AKA the devil spawn. They were both laying in the sand in their bikinis trying desperately to flirt with Tanner and Troy. Idiots.

Logan turned back to me. "As much as I'd love to inflict self torture upon myself by being around them... I think I'd rather just stay here."

I smiled. "Sounds good to me."

I grilled while Logan watched and talked about the most random things. I even showed her how to grill the burgers, and she took over for me when I needed to get some stuff from the house. Now, everyone was gathered around the bonfire we built eating dinner and having small conversations between one another. It was nice, and although the sun had set, it was still super warm out. Typical Florida weather.

The beach was always my favorite place. Especially the private one we were on tonight. Just being here took me back to the summers my family would visit. I remembered the endless amounts of sandcastles Amelia and I used to build. We would get in our own little competitions with each other to see who could build the best one. I would always win, of course, but then Amelia would destroy my castle. And then I would help her build hers to be even better than mine had been.

I finished my food and laid back in the sand, closing my eyes and listening to the conversation beside me. Sounded like Cayden and Jeremy were having a playful argument about which musical was the best. Cayden was on the side of Hamilton, and Jeremy was more of a Book of Mormon fan.

"Noah!" Cayden exclaimed. "Which one would you pick?"

I sat up. "Easy pick, Cay. Hamilton all the way."

"Ha!" Cayden said to Jeremy. "What did I tell you?"

    "Whatever," Jeremy grumbled.

I shook my head at the 2 and laughed. All of a sudden, Porkchop stood up and caught everyone's attention by screaming. Literally just screaming.

"Jesus, what?" Troy asked, making Porkchop shut up.

"I have a great idea!" Porkchop exclaimed.

Tanner leaned over to me. "There's no way it's actually a good idea," he whispered.

"Oh I know. Can't wait to hear this one," I replied.

"LET'S PLAY A HOUSE WIDE ROUND OF HIDE AND SEEK!" Porkchop yelled, jumping in the air and clicking his heels together.

I groaned and slapped my hand on my forehead. "There is no way we're doing that!" Genevieve spoke, and I lifted my head up.

"Yeah. That's so lame," Savannah chimed in.

So Genevieve and Savannah weren't on board. Apparently, they hated hide and seek. So I stood up.

"Hide and seek it is," I said, sending an evil smile in the direction of the 2 dimwits. "Everyone interested... to the house!"

The 2 of them sent me a dirty look, but around half of the group complied and followed to the house. We made our way inside and Porkchop clapped his hands together giddily. "I GET TO BE IT!" Porkchop said.

"Okay, you get to be it," I agreed. "So maybe count to 50, and we'll all hide."

Porkchop's grin grew. "You got it, Noah!" Porkchop closed his eyes and started to count.

Everyone took off to find a hiding spot in the large house. I slowly made my way upstairs, trying not to make too much noise. Only a few other people had ran upstairs when Porkchop started counting, although I knew there weren't many good options for hiding up here.

It was a classic Porkchop move to want to play a childish game like hide and seek. He loved games like that, and it was so typical of him. Porkchop really was a child, but it's what made him so innocent. You just had to love him, and there was literally no way to say no to him.

I snuck into one of the hallways as I heard Porkchop yell, "READY OR NOT, HERE I COME!" I couldn't help but slightly panic. No way in hell was I going to be caught first. I quickly opened the door to the tiny closet and shut it behind me. But I wasn't alone.

    "Seriously—"

I put my hand over Logan's mouth to shut her up, and then slowly removed it.

"No better spot for you, was there?" She whispered.

"Hey, he's coming and I didn't plan accordingly," I replied. "This was the first place I saw. Can't help it that great minds think alike."

"Oh, so you think I have a great mind?"

    "Sure I do."

Logan shook her head. "You're funny."

"What if I'm not trying to be funny?" I asked, and Logan looked up at me. I could barely make out her complete face, but I could see her eyes.

Logan kept her eyes on me and I heard her let out a deep breath. "You're a piece of work, Locke."

I laughed lightly. "You may be right on that one."

A silence fell over the cramped closet. All I could hear was the sound of our breathing and the distant sound of Porkchop running around the house looking for people. My eyes then flickered back to Logan who was looking at the ground, avoiding contact with me.

That was when I started to get the urge. The urge to do what? I wasn't sure. All I knew was that I was standing barely a foot away from Logan, and I had some sort of urge being so close to her. I couldn't place it. I just felt it.

I heard the footsteps running up the stairs and in one motion, I found myself placing my hand on Logan's chin to lift her face up to mine. We were inches away from each other, and I couldn't help but let my eyes trail down her face, all the way down to her lips...

I looked back up to her eyes, and reached my other hand up to move a strand of her hair behind her ear. "I think your mind is one of the most amazing things I've gotten to know," I whispered.

We kept eye contact, and I couldn't move my hand off of her face. I still had the urge.

That was when the closet door swung open, and I quickly retracted my hand from her face. Clay stood on the other side of the closet, beaming.

"A TWO FOR ONE!" He screamed, and then patted me on the shoulder. "Didn't anyone ever teach you to not hide in groups? Pshh... amateurs." Clay turned around and then left us alone.

I cleared my throat. "Better, uh... better go help him look for the others," I said, and slowly started walking away.

What the fuck just came over me?
