Morgan's POV

"So, when is your Christmas break starting?" I asked Hayley.

"Yesterday was the last day—how do you not know? I teach your brother." Hayley looked at me—not stopping walking.

"Well I'm not always up to day with Matty's activities. I only pick him up from school."

"Yeah I wonder why you do it."

"Because I'm a good sister." I said obviously.

"Sure." We stopped at the top of the snowy hill once we finally reached it. "So we are here."

"Yep, let's go."

It has been snowing hard these past days here so yesterday Hayley and I planned to come sledding on the snow. I haven't done this since high school but it doesn't mean I don't know how it's done.

We planned this the same day Hayley kicked my out in the morning after we fell asleep in the couch the previous night while watching movies.

Bit rude.

However by the unsure look on Hayley's face I doubt she has ever done this before.

"I don't know Morgan, this doesn't seem safe." She said looking to the rest of the people going down.

"It's totally safe— well here it is, this hill is not that big for anyone to harm themselves badly— unless they do something dumb but it's fine. Even kids do it alone." I pointed to some kids who couldn't be older than thirteen sliding down the hill together.

I put the sledge on the floor and sat so I would be on the back and patted the spot in front of me.

"I don't know why I agreed to this." Hayley mumbled still standing there and now looking at the red sledge.

"Because you know it's going to be fun." I pulled her down by the hand and made her sit on the sledge in front of me.

"Now what?"

"Just put feet inside the sledge and enjoy." I pulled us closer to the hill and counted. "Three!"

I'm not sure of how many times we went down the hill with the slide—all I know is that Hayley lost her fear to it and seemed to be enjoying herself and having fun for a change. She always seems to be preoccupied or too serious so these past weeks since we've been hanging out I've been making sure she has all the fun she can. Because she deserves to have a nice time after all that bullshit life has thrown her way and I'll make sure she gets it.

"Okay I'll admit that was fun." Hayley giggled as we finished our latest slide.

"Told you so."

"Now what?" She asked as I dragged our sledge through the snow.

"I would say we can try skiing or snowboarding but I don't think you'll be up to that and I'm not very good at that." I said and Hayley agreed with a tilt of her head. "How about we go to the restaurant near the hill to eat something and we'll decided what to do next there?"

"Sounds like a plan."

I nodded.

"But first we gotta put this on the car." I motioned at the sledge.

"Oh right, need help?"

"Nah I got it."

After we put the sledge on the trunk of my car we went to eat—it was a restaurant where they served Canadian food as well and they have this thing called poutine—which is what I ordered—it's a french fries with brown gravy and cheedar cheese.

It's too fucking good.

Meanwhile Hayley got herself wavy fries and a cheese burger. It looked really good as well but I'm happy with my poutine. We also ordered saskatoon berries pie for dessert— I have never tasted it but my dad has and he told me that if I came to this restaurant I should totally try it out.

"That looks good," Hayley referred to my food.

"It is," I confirmed. Hayley then proceeded to grab some of my food leaving me staring at her with wide eyes, "Hey!" I complained.

"You were right it is good." She smirked and went back to her burger.

"Don't touch my food." I narrowed my eyes and pulled my poutine farther from her.

Hayley rolled her green eyes at me.

"You're such a child. What are you eating anyway?"

"Poutine."

"Poutine?"

"Yes."

"Well it tastes nice."

I hummed in agreement.

When we finished our food the dessert came and let me tell you it did live up to the expectations of what my dad described it—maybe even more. It was really good.

As we ate we decided on walking around the forest as that something else people around here tend to do. It was also still early so the won't set for some hours yet—leaving us enough time to enjoy the walk.

"Do you think there's wolves in these woods?" I asked Hayley who was taking pictures with a disposable camera she had hanging up on her neck.

"Wolves?" She turned around and took a picture of me before putting it down and think for a second. "Maybe, want to go find them?"

"Are you crazy? I don't want to die, I rather go to the dog shelter and pet some Huskies—speaking of I actually should visit it one of these days since Matty wants a dog." I grabbed a wood stick from the floor and drew some faces in the snow.

"He does, he always talks about wanting one at school and do you know what definitely lives in these woods? Bears." Hayley said making me stop drawing on the floor and my eyes wide. I saw her take a picture of my shocked face and then turn to the drawings on the floor. "What's that?"

I shook my head and turned to what the blonde was looking. "Oh, that's you. Looks the same doesn't it?"

"Yeah... except for the fact I don't have hair or a nose... and I'm missing an ear."

I sighed loudly and moved my arms in the air. "Everyone's a critic these days."

"You did ask me for my opinion, dumbass." Hayley walked ahead of me and kept taking pictures.

I watched her as she left me behind and right there an idea came to my mind. I quietly crunched on the floor and made a ball with the snow and stood back up. I made sure I had a good aim of her before I threw it and when I did I laughed as it successfully hit her back.

"Hey Hayley! You have a bit of snow he—" I was cut short by a snowball expertly thrown into my face. "Ouch."

"Asshole." Hayley said and threw another but I dodged it this time.

"Oh you're on Duvall." I made another ball and threw it at her but my aim is not as good as hers—especially not if she's running— which she is.

She threw another one this time landing it on my chest as I run after her. "Maybe if you can catch me you slow."

We ran around the woods with the people that we bumped with on the way giving us weird looks. At some point we were running and then at the next I hear an 'oof' and soon enough I'm rolling down on the snow and when I stop I have a weight over my now aching torso but I couldn't see as I had my beanie covering my sight.

"Fuck." I let out trying to regain my breath that had been knocked out of me.

"Oh shit! I'm sorry Morgan, are you okay?" Hayley took out my beanie off my eyes and I was greeted by her big green ones and her hair covered partially with snow.

"Yeah... I'm fine, just got my air knocked out and bit malnourished by the fall but I'm fine." I moved one of my arms and brought my hand up to Hayley head and swatted the snow out of her hair and put it slowly back to my side.

The light that was illuminating her face and making her usual dark green eyes look lighter and soft—even if there was slight concern in them. She looked breathtaking with the snowflakes painting her face and blonde mane.

"I didn't see that tree root over there, sorry." Hayley mumbled as she finished arranging my beanie.

She then slowly stopped her movements and stared at me with her gloved hand still on my cheek. I could feel her warm breath fawn over me and I'm sure she could feel mine as well. I didn't even realize my other arm was encircling her torso keeping her on top of me.

"What are you doing on Christmas?" I asked breaking our staring contest.

"Uh? Is this the part where I tell you I don't have anything special planned and you go on with inviting me to your parent's house without giving me a choice?" She arched a brow.

I smiled.

"I'm glad we understand each other now Duvall."

She rolled her eyes with a toothy smile.

"We sure do, Valentine."
