Morgan's POV

Since finding out Hayley was in town the Christmas get away to Jerome seemed to be less dull and boring than I originally thought it would be.

It's Matty's last day of school before his Thanksgiving break so I decided to pass by his school since I know it's now his lunch break.

"Morgan where are you going?" My mom asked as she drank her tea on the barstool.

Damn I forgot she didn't go to work today.

"Just... out."

"Out?" She arched a brow suspiciously.

I can't just tell her I'm going to my little brother's preschool to visit his teacher... or maybe I can but it's going to sound weird and make my mom ask me a bunch of questions.

So right now I'm just going out.

"Yeah just around town, you know... to bring some good ol' memories back."

She crossed her arms still not believing me and hummed, "So you're not going to see anyone?"

I scoffed as if she just said something completely ridiculous. "No."

"Sure. Are you picking Matty up from school again?" My mom asked as she moved her attention back to her tea and her magazine.

"Yep, I'll pick him up, it's not like I have anything else to do." I went to the door and gave my mom one last glance and she still seemed to entertained with her magazine.

"Drive safe!" She said as I went out of the door.

"Of course!"

My mom spoke again before I got to close the front door. "And tell Hayley I said 'hi'."

That made stop on my tracks and my eyes widen.

How the hell did she know?

I didn't reply anything and just continued my way out—closing the door behind me. I entered the car and wasted no time in driving away from the house as I still had to stop by and buy some food. I didn't know from which place though.

Let's see... I can't call Hayley and ask her what she wants because one-she doesn't know I'm going because it's supposed to be a surprise and two—I don't have her phone number-dumb of me I know.

As I drove through town the first thing I saw was a McDonalds — I guess that for today it will have to do. I don't have much time to go there before the lunch break is over because I couldn't find my shoes—which took more of my time that I thought.

When I arrived to the school with the food I checked my phone to see the time and saw that I had still plenty as lunch had started just almost ten minutes ago. I walked through the corridors of the school and every classroom was empty as the kids where outside eating and playing.

I got to the door of my destination and knocked on it even though it was already open. Hayley was sat on her desk and once she looked up from her phone she let out a loud groan of annoyance.

"See! You are stalking me, Valentine."

I ignored her and grabbed a chair so I could put it in front of her desk and sat on it — all the while Hayley watched me doing it. "Would a stalker bring McDonalds?" I put the bag and two sodas on top of her desk.

She shrugged.

"A better one would have brought burger's from Joey's dinner." Hayley ssid as she opened the paper bag and got out the burgers and fries.

"Damn I forgot about Joey's dinner... next time."

"Next time?" Hayley arched a brow as she ate a fry.

"Yeah next time," I smiled and started unwrapping my burger.

She shook her head and sipped from her drink. "How did you even know that I haven't eaten?"

"Wouldn't you like to know?" I wiggled my brows before taking a bite out of my burger.

"Stalker."

I threw a napkin at her and recieved an unamused look in return.

We were making some small talk about how the town has changed since we were in high school eight years ago—to some gossip. She also told me that apparently our old high school teacher Mrs. Blart had a cardiac arrest so she had to retire from teaching and moved to Tacoma. At least it didn't happen while I was still in high school, if she had a heart failure while we argued I would have been traumatized.

My phone the started ringing interrupting our chat. I took it out of my pocket and checked the ID to see that it was Elizabeth calling.

"Girlfriend?" Hayley asked with a teasing look.

I chuckled.

"No, just work." I responded to her after declining the call.

I'll just text her later.

"Oh so you are single?" She arched a brow.

"It's hard to believe that you already don't know the answer to that since you are besties with my mom." I leaned against the chair.

"Your mom doesn't know about your love life— which by the way worries her a lot. She always says she wants grandchildren and that by the looks of it she's going to have to wait until Matty grows up. Apparently you can't keep a woman." Hayley said with a teasing tone and once she saw my mouth fell agape she bursted out laughing.

"That is not true, I can keep a woman!"

"Yeah, I'm sure you can," she said with sarcasm dripping from her words and narrowed her eyes.

"I— what— you can't talk! You are single too!" I pointed at her.

"By own choice."

"I am too by own choice!"

"Sure."

"Come on—" Hayley stopped me by putting a hand over my mouth.

"Okay as much I would love to keep discussing your catastrophic romantic life... the kids are coming back at any moment now so you need to get going." She ushered me out of the classroom.

"But—" I started when she removed her hand.

"Out Morgan."

I groaned and stood up—taking with me the now empty bags of food so I cloud throw them on my way out. Hayley followed close behind me, probably to make sure I would leave.

"Wait." I turned around on the door.

"What?"

"What are you planning to do on Thanksgiving?"

Hayley shrugged.

"Not much, probably order in and stay home," she eyed me and raised a brow. "Why?"

"Nothing... but you are coming over to my parent's house for Thanksgiving."

"What?"

I started walking through the corridors after I said that with Hayley calling out my name but failing as I didn't turn around or stopped.

"Made sure to be there Duvall or I will go pick you up myself!" I said still not stopping.

"You are so annoying!" She responded making me laugh as I walked out of the school.
