For a few minutes, the car ride was uncomfortable and quiet, the silence was so loud that I felt like pulling at my hair. Mason was never the silent type, he would be making some witty remark by now.

"So, do you mind telling me what happened?" I quickly glanced at him.

He looked angry and lost, "no." He replied simply.

"Ok, yeah, sure, give your best friend who just bailed you out of jail at four in the morning, who is also in trouble herself the silent treatment." I got no response and gripped the steering wheel tighter.

"Come on, Mason, tell me what happened.''

Instead, he turned away from me to stare out the window.

"Ok, fine then, just know that you owe me ten grand, no eleven.''

Still no response.

I sighed.

"My father is back." I managed.

I stopped the car at that, it was a good thing the street Mason lived on was so busy at this hour or there would have been a nasty accident.

"Honestly, Mason talk to me.'' I plead.

He made a growling sound before saying, ''it's doesn't matter and it's none of your business Isabell.''

That was the first time in for so long that he had ever used my correct name, I looked over at him, he was chewing on his lower lip with a distant look on his face.

"Mas-" before I could get anything else out Mason said something under his breath, after which he got out of the car. He slammed the door so hard the entire car shook.

I watched as he walked the rest of the distance to his house, it took everything in me to not go after him.

Maybe he just needed some time, I thought before heading home.

It was almost six when I got back home, I was more than grateful that my parents hadn't woken up and was glad that it was the weekend so I could sleep in.

My sleep was once again cut short, I was woken by yelling and glass shattering, I placed my pillow over my head and screamed. Not this again, for four years the place was peaceful, four years of no argument or abuse. Well, all good things have to come to an end.

I sighed flinging off my sheets, then peered out my room. I could hear my father bellowing, soft sobs and something tumbling to the floor. I shrank back into my room locking the door, making sure to use the deadbolt Mason fitted for me.

And this is why I tried to run away. I threw myself down on my bed and screamed into my pillow, I don't want this, I don't want the past to replay, I can't go through it again.

I could already feel a headache building and felt stressed out, we were doing so well without that man. Mom got a really great job, I could finally go to school regularly, this can't happen again.

I tried calling Mason's phone however, it kept going to voicemail. I last it off as him not being awake as yet, which made me even more miserable. I need someone to talk to, I need my best friend.

There was a loud scream, then silence. I don't understand why mom still cared for him, he was abusive and a criminal.

I eventually fell asleep again.

This time I was woken by pounding on my door.

"Isabella, it's well past twelve." Mom's voice came.

I groaned, "it's Saturday mom. It's Saturday.''

About a half-hour later I ran downstairs, hoping to not face my parents but her luck ran out, well I never had much luck to begin with.

Mom was in the foyer going through some letters, she didn't even notice my approach.

"I'm going to the library," I lied, truth is I just didn't want to be near either of them, the fighting or yelling.

I already felt betrayed by my mother for letting dad back into our lives after all he had done.

"Why?" She inquired, looking up at me then, she had a bruise on the cheek but tried to smile through it.

"I have a project to finish up." I thought quickly, it wasn't a total lie.

"Ok, just be home by four.'' She nods before heading to the kitchen.

I hopped into my car and speed away, instead of going to the library like I told mom, I went to the local pizzeria in hopes of seeing Mason.

To my surprise, he was there along with Charlotte, Peyton and Aubery. They hang onto each word he said, only to laugh when he laughed.

I took a deep breath before walking over to them.

I laughed inwardly about how stupid it was for feeling jealous of them, Mason was her best friend and no feelings were there for him.

"Yo, Reid!" I called.

He glanced my way but didn't really acknowledge me, Charlotte did a little giggle and flipped her hair.

"So, when are you planning on telling me what happened last night?" I questioned, while trying to ignore Charlotte's glare.

"Hello, earth to Mason." I waved a hand at him.

A frown appeared between his brows and his face twisted in anger.

"It's none of your business Forbes!" Je practically sneered.

I was taken back by his tone and attitude, which only made Peyton and Charlotte laugh. Aubrey on the other hand looked anywhere but at me, leaving me to wonder why she was here with them and where Savannah was.

"Ok, what crawled up your ass?" I placed my hands on my hips, waiting for him to reply.

Instead, Mason pushed Charlotte away from him then got up from off the tabletop, which nearly tripping over as he did, to brush past me without a second glance.

"Nice going loser." Charlotte rolled her eyes, she got up gracefully and brushed off her skirt.

"Whatever whore," I remark, as the girl passed by.

She stopped at that and abruptly turned around then walked back to face me. "What did you just say?" Her eyes glaring daggers.

"I said, whatever whore." I said the words slowly.

Charlotte raised her hand to slap me, luckily I anticipating it, I gave her a hard push causing her to lose balance.

Peyton stepped up but for whatever reason Charlotte stopped her

"This isn't over." She told me then walked away.

"Sure as hell isn't." I smiled, then walked off in search of Mason.

I found him sitting in his car, the windows were wined up, yet I could still hear the loud music blasting from the inside.

I tapped on the window but Mason only turned the music up.

I tapped on the window again, this time Mason pushed his door open roughly, causing it to hit me.

"What's your problem?" I squealed out.

"My problem? My problem is you, Isabella, why just leave me the hell alone!" He spat.

I was taken aback him his behaviour and even felt tears pricking my eyes.

"Honestly Mason, what's wrong with you?" I grabbed at his hand when he turned away.

In his angry Mason shoved me hard, causing me to fall over, and a few pebbles to pierce the palm of my right hand.

I fought back a cry as I peered up at my best friend, noting that he was a totally different person.
