Tyler
Another Three Weeks

Everyone was rushing around to get ready for the banquet. Mom and Dad we're rushing around their bedroom, Hunter was rushing around the internet to find a video about how to tie a tie, and I still wasn't ready to walk out of the house. Naomi kept calling me about what she should wear and what color would perfectly match my tie and so much stuff I just didn't care about.

"Just put on whatever you brought. We'll see how it matches once we get there." I sighed into the phone.

"That doesn't make sense." Naomi rolled her eyes.

"It's gonna have to. Bye." I hung up before she could say anything else.

I quickly got up and went to shower. When I got out, I got dressed and struggled with my tie before finally finishing the look and moving on to style my hair.

I decided to let me hair fall over my eye messily, but make it look styled. By now everyone was ready and we went out to the Limo Dad had gotten for the night. The Limo went to pick up Hunter's date, Kayla, and my date, Naomi. When we pulled up to the banquet hall, the guest were already there and everything had already been setup. As soon as we entered, all eyes turned to us and everyone applauded my parents. Mr and Mrs. Rose came over to greet them.

"You all look lovely!" Mrs. Rose gushed patting Hunter and My cheeks.

"Thank you." We said at the same time.

"Uh, where's Amari?" I asked. "Did her ankle stop her from coming?"

"Oh, no. Amari wouldn't miss something like this." Mr. Rose laughed.

"Jake is coming to get her." Mrs. Rose said and she and my mother proceeded to squeal like school girls.

They all immediately went about their way. Hunter and Kayla went to dance and Naomi pulled me onto the dance floor as well. Three songs had passed and Amari still wasn't here. I mean, I wasn't looking for her or anything. I just think it's weird she hadn't come to talk to me yet.

"I'm gonna go get something to drink." I said to Naomi.

"Bring me something back." She said and continued to dance.

"Okay." I nodded and walked away.

I went to get a drink and that's when she entered the building. Amari walked in hanging onto his arm. Her curly hair loose in the back and braided away from her face in the front. Her makeup was light but her smile was perfect. They matched perfectly and, no matter how much I hated to admit it, they did look good standing beside each other.

He was dressed in all black besides his loafers that were red bottoms and Amari was his splash of color, in every sense of the phrase. His thumb brushed against his bottom lip as pulled Amari closer and the carefully descended the stairs.

"They look good, huh?" Hunter asked from beside me.

"Yeah." I mumbled. "I never would've come up with an outfit like that."

"I know." Hunter laughed. "If we could've we would've done that Tonight."

"Boys look at Amari!" Mom said as she rushed over to us. "She looks beautiful."

"Like a dream." I mumbled.

Mom waved Amari over to us and she happily came over. Amari was no long on crutches or in the boot and she was putting her healed ankle to use in those red bottoms.

"Hey guys!" She smiled hugging us.

I wanted our hug to linger, but Amari was quick to get back to Jake.

"This is Jake. I met him at the dress shop and we hit it off." She said smiling up at him.

The last time I've seen her this happy was when she talked her Dad into letting her get a snake. That was also followed by the saddest I've ever seen her when her Mom made her Dad take it back. Something in me hopes sadness wouldn't follow her this time, but the other part hoped I'd be there to pick up the pieces of it did.

"Jake, this is my brother Hunter and my best friend Tyler." She introduced us. "This is my Mom and My Aunt, Maya, But you've already met them."

"Yes, of course." He nodded before shaking Hunter's hand and holding his hand out to me.

I glanced at his hand then back to his face. I glanced over to Amari who was pleading with me through her eyes. I sighed and shook his hand.

"For a second I thought you weren't going to shake my hand." Jake laughed.

"Yeah, well..." Amari cut me off.

"He's just skeptical." Amari glared at me before grabbing Jake's hand. "Let's go dance."

Jake laughed and allowed Amari to lead him onto the dance floor.

"What's taking so long?" Naomi asked walking over to me.

"Nothing." I shook my head. "Let's dance."

Before she could reply, I pulled her onto the dance floor.

Amari
An Hour Later

Jake and I slow danced for what felt like the third time Tonight. I was having an amazing time with him. Conversation came easy, he was nice to look at, and he had manners. Everyone had complimented us as they saw us and it felt good.

"I'm gonna go find a restroom." I whispered to Jake.

"Alright. I'll be sitting over by the live band." He said.

He watched me walk away and I felt special for the first time in a long time. I sat on the couch outside of the bathrooms and took off my heels. I didn't want Jake to think I couldn't handle wearing heels as a fancy dress, so I had to step away. In reality, I knew it was too soon to wear heels after getting my boot off, but I wanted to look good so I did it anyway. My ankle was killing me, but I would just have to deal with that later.

"Tired?" I heard come from behind me.

I nearly jumped out of my skin. A sigh escaped my lips when I saw that it was just Tyler.

"No." I shook my head. "My ankle hurts a little."

"You shouldn't be standing on it for too long." Tyler said sitting beside me. "You did just get out of a boot."

"I know." I sighed. "But our outfits coordinated so well. So many people complimented us Tonight."

"You do look good on his arm." Tyler mumbled gently pulling my foot into his lap as he began to massage it. "You look good in this dress."

"Do I really?" I asked staring him in the eyes.

His eyes never left mine as his hand slowly rubbed up my leg and beneath my dress.

"You knew that when you left the house." He said pulling me closer so that my foot wasn't in his lap, but my entire leg was thrown over his lap.

I was almost in his lap. He placed a hand on my lower back and moved closer to my face.

"Tyler..." I trailed off.

"Amari?" He whispered causing his lips to gently brush against my ear.

"Someone might come out here." I said.

"We'll hear them before they see us." He said kissing down my neck.

"Jake is waiting for me." I shook my head gently pushing him away.

"Let him wait." Tyler shrugged. "Unless you really want to go back."

He looked me in my face and when I didn't say anything, he sighed and grabbed hold of my foot again.

"You've only just met him, Amari." He said massaging my foot and ankle.

"I know, but I think I might like him." I said.

"That's ridiculous." He scoffed. "I'd rather you be with Jason."

"Or would you rather I be with you?" I asked before I could stop myself.

We both froze and Tyler slowly looked at me.

"We're just friends." He said softly.

"I know." I sighed picking up my shoe and putting it on. "We'll always be just friends."

I sighed and walked back into the banquet hall.

"I was just about to come looking for you." Jake said softly grabbing my hand.

"I got lost." I lied.

"Well, maybe next time we can get lost together, okay?" He smiled at me and my heart fluttered.

"Okay." I smiled back.

"Let's go sit. You really shouldn't strain your ankle so much." He said. "I'll carry you if you'd like."

"No, I'm fine." I laughed as we made our way over to a table.

My mind wasn't on Tyler or Jason or whoever else. I was with Jake and that's all I wanted to be. We were so perfectly in sync with one another and it was refreshing to not have to argue or fight over everything.
