Tyler

"Amari!" I groaned banging on the bathroom door.

"Wait!" She yelled hitting the door from the other side.

"We have to go!" I laughed leaning against the wall. "Your hair was fine before."

"I know." She mumbled walking out of the bathroom.

"Well, I know now." She grabbed her bag and turned to smile at me.

"You look nice." She said.

"We don't look like we're going to the same event, but thanks." I kissed the side of her face and we left to meet Hunter and Angel in the living room.

They were sitting there in the middle of an intense Rock Paper Scissors battle.

"Tornado!" Hunter screamed spinning his finger vigorously.

"That is not how you play!" Angel yelled hitting him with a pillow.

"You're just made because I won." Hunter smiled confidently.

"Can someone tell him that he can't choose earthquake, tornado, or explosion when playing Rock Paper Scissors?" Angel asked looking at us.

He was defeated and knew that he wouldn't be able to get through to Hunter.

"Sorry." I shrugged throwing my arm over Amari's shoulders. "He's a natural born cheater."

"Honestly." Amari laughed.

"You guys ready?" Mom asked walking into the living room while putting on her earrings.

"Yeah." We all answered.

"Cool. Let's go." She said. "Oooh Amari!"

She grabbed Amari's arm and they left out talking about whatever it was they liked to talk about.

We were headed to Grandpa's dinner he was having with other business men he wanted to team up with. He wanted me to meet them, I guess. Amari was coming as my date, of course. I didn't know how Grandpa would react to that, I didn't know how I would react to his reaction. There were a lot of moving pieces happening.

Amari

We pulled up to the venue and immediately I noticed how well dressed everyone was.

I mean, I didn't look like I had just come from a club or anything, but I didn't look like I belonged here either.

When we got out of the car, Tyler was immediately pulled away by his Father and his Mother went with them. Hunter and Angel walked with me.

"You look like you're going to vomit." Hunter said staring at the side of my face. "Since when were you afraid of big crowds?"

"Since they started looking like this." I mumbled to myself. "I'm not."

"Sure. Keep telling yourself that." Hunter rolled his eyes. "Just relax. You have the most desirable person here by your side."

"Yeah. Me." Angel smiled pulling at his jacket.

"No. Me." Hunter mocked Angel by pulling at his own jacket.

"If we're being honest, I'm the most desirable person here." I said flipping my hair. "So you two are very lucky to be walking beside me."

"You could never." Hunter said flipping my hair back over my shoulder.

We walked into the venue and my heart pounded in my chest as I scanned the room for Tyler.

Tyler

"This is my Grandson, Tyler." Grandpa introduces me. "He'll be taking over the business when I step down."

"Really?" The old man asked reaching out to shake my hand. "I can't wait to start doin business with you."

"Same here." I nodded my head.

They talked for a moment longer until Grandpa grabbed my arm and started walking me somewhere else. I looked around the room for Amari. I had lost her in the parking lot and my anxiety was through the roof. I knew that Hunter and Angel were probably with her right now, but I didn't want her to suffer through their nonstop competitions. I needed her by my side right now, anyway.

"What're you looking for?" A soft voice asked from beside me.

I looked over and saw a girl with long blondish brown hair standing beside me. Hair like mine, actually.

She smiled at me before holding her hand out for me to shake.

"I'm Danielle." She smiled.

"Tyler." I shook her hand.

"Nice to meet you." She said glancing around. "So who are you here for?"

"My Grandpa." I said pointing to him as he talked to some other old guy. "You?"

"My Father, actually." She said pointing to the guy Grandpa was taking to.

"Really?" I asked. "He's..."

"Old? Yeah, I know." She laughed. "I guess he was something hot 20 years ago. My Mom's not as old as him. She was actually a sugar baby believe it or not."

"I believe it." I nodded.

"Oh! You two have already met, I see." Danielle's Father smiled walking over to us.

"Yeah." She nodded.

Grandpa stared at me for a moment before glancing over at Danielle then back to me. He nodded his head and looked away.

"How about we all go get a drink and discuss business plans, yeah?" Grandpa asked.

"Yes. Of course!" Danielle's Father said.

Grandpa let them walk ahead of us before walking very close to me.

"You two hit it off, right?" He asked.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You can see yourself with her, yeah?" He asked.

"No." I scoffed.

"Well, I can." He said and I stopped walking. "Maybe it's the lighting in here. Perhaps you should take her somewhere better lit next time."

"Next time?" I asked.

"Next time." He patted my shoulder and walked away.

Amari

"There you are." I sighed as I approached Tyler.

He had a blank expression on his face.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing." He shook his head and looked pass me. "Nothing. Hey, I have to go talk to this guy with Grandpa. I'll see you later."

"You'll see me later?" I scoffed.

"Yeah." He nodded. "I'll see you later."

He patted my arm and walked over to where his Grandpa was sitting. I rolled my eyes and walked off again.

Why was I here again?
