y/n pov

rodrick was graduating tomorrow. since our talk we decided to be friends. my america's got talent was going amazing and i was going to the finals next week. greg and sierra dated but broke up shortly after because it was kinda awkward. we were close as ever and hung out everyday. i hung with rodrick like once a week and it was really fun. we had feelings for each other but i didn't know what to do. i loved him but things weren't good right now. last month my mother was diagnosed with cancer. i was having a hard time but the heffleys helped as often as they could. 

rodrick was going to college in new york. it saddened me to know he was leaving but he promised he'd wait for me, i knew at some point we'd get back together but i never thought of him leaving. i wanted to go to college in new york too. maybe somehow we'd meet again and get together? that was years away though so i dropped the subject to myself. it was late at night and greg was sleeping in my bed completely sprawled out. i was sitting at my vanity and got in bed moving him over. i melted into the bed and held onto his arm. we were passed out and woke up at around seven the next morning. i hopped in the shower and when i got out he was waiting at the door. i smiled and he ran in to shower quickly. 

getting ready to see rodrick graduate was peaceful. i did my hair in a half up half down ponytail with a pretty silver hair clip. i was going to rodricks graduation with the heffleys and my mom was going to try to come too. she was really sick but insisted. i put on a tight dress and black heels. greg came out in a suit and matching tie to my dress. i smiled and fixed his tie "it's crazy to think he's graduating." i looked up at him. he was a foot taller than me now and i rolled my eyes "i'm shocked he's even graduating. especially going to college" we laughed and went downstairs. "aw you two are so cute together!" my mom took a photo and we walked over to greg's house. we walked in and his family was waiting so we could all take pictures.

rodrick had his suit and tie on and then his cap and gown. "wow heffley you clean up nice" i laughed and he mocked me "ah you too y/ln" i rolled my eyes and walked over to him, everyone else left the room. "new york huh?" he nodded "when you come to do shows when you're famous you can stay with me if you want" i smiled "i'd like that, for sure" it was then time for us to go.when rodrick walked across thee stage i smiled and clapped the loudest. he was so handsome in his little gown. i loved seeing him dressed up. when he came back i hugged him and we went to dinner. it was a nice restaurant and we all had a good time.

the summer was really fun but in two weeks i would be back in school. my mom wasn't getting any better and that was really hard but i had greg. i lost and got second place in my show but it was really fun. rodrick was leaving tomorrow to get settled in and i was nervous. i still love him. i wanted to get back together but i don't know how to tell him. maybe i should call him? or leave a voice mail? that's what i'll do. i called and left a message.

"hey rodrick, i wanted to tell you something. i love you, and uh- i wanna get back together. i think we could make it work. i could come see you on holidays or you'd come here and we could hang out and stuff. i'm ready. i know it took me a while but you've been there and kept your promise that you'd wait so i just, i don't know. i would love another shot if you're willing to. oh you're home i'm watching you pull in now. well i'll come down and talk to you, listen to this whenever you-"

i saw him get out and a girl get out with him. they walked in the garage "nevermind aha uh disregard this whole message i gotta go bye" i hung up and stared out the window. i saw rodrick come out of the garage and put the phone to his ear. he must have been listening because he looked shocked. then he looked up at my window and i fell back. he has a girlfriend? i waited too long. this was the fucking worst. then i heard a knock at my door and i opened it. "greg? what's up?" i smiled and let him in "i heard the message you sent rodrick. the girl was actually for me, she was his friend and he was picking her up. i heard the pause and i know what you thought. you should text him and tell him to come over." he smiled and hugged me then walked out. i sent a text to rodrick telling him to come over and then i sat on my bed.

not ten minutes later he burst into my room and looked at me "hey" i smiled. he ran to the bed and picked me up. i wrapped my legs around him and we shared the sweetest kiss i've ever had with him. it was magical, like our first time. i knew i wanted to spend my life with him. he pulled away "y/n i love you and i will never hurt you again." i smiled and he set me down. "you better not heffley. you saw melanie." he smirked, "i never want to see her again. just you love." i giggled and we sat on my bed, talking for hours. eventually though, we fell asleep.

when we woke up it was around five and we both got up. i walked over to my vanity and put my shoes on. he walked up from behind me and pulled me into a hug and whispered, "you are my soulmate y/n. i promise i'll never hurt you again and i will always protect you" then he kissed my cheek and walked into the bathroom. i blushed and texted Greg. 'meet me in vodricks van w ur new gf in 10.' he sent a thumbs up and then we walked to his van. i sat next to rodrick and we waited for greg and his girlfriend. "what's her name anyways?" 

rodrick laughed, "emily" i held in a laugh, "oh okay" and they came out. when they got in, i turned back to them. "greg?" he raised an eyebrow. "why's your shirt on backwards?" his eyes went wide and they both blushed "no way." Rodrick laughed "oh dude welcome to the non-virgin club!" he blushed and we fist bumped "you used protection right?" rodrick asked, greg quickly snapped back "do you and y/n?" i blushed and looked at rodrick "nevermind dickhead." we all laughed and went to dinner. it was a really good day.
