                          ROSETTE

Just as the wind blew, her hair moved along with it gracefully
The knee-length dress she wore was a designer, one I had spent months worth of savings on.
I was ready to spend an entire fortune if she asked for it because I loved her to death.
No other maiden would surpass her beauty in any way. She was a pure gem.
My only wish had been for her to accept and embrace my love, to not hold back.

As I turned the page, I got much more engrossed in the book. Reading books had been one of my favorite hobbies since childhood and I couldn't seem to get enough of them. My abusive father had always forbidden me from reading books but I couldn't help myself. I had gotten a lot of beatings as a result but it was all for a good cause.

I had been trying to pry my thoughts away from my husband but it was proving to be hard. The events that had occurred during and after the wedding were still haunting me, tormenting me every time I thought about it. Every time any of his portraits came into view, memories of his hands forcefully pleasuring me flashed through my mind.

It had been days since we last spoke or even saw each other and it seemed to hurt me. It was as if he was avoiding my presence for some reason. All my meals were being delivered to me by the maids but I had no one to talk to. A guard had been stationed at my door to obviously keep me from escaping. He didn't speak at all; only let people in and out of the room.

As more hours seemed to pass, I became lonelier than ever. I was quite used to my father's presence and the crowds in school but this place seemed to be empty. The only people I had seen were Elijah, the guard, and the maids during the short period I had been here. The nights seemed colder; the comfortable covers unable to warm me. I cried myself to sleep frequently, pitying myself for my pathetic life.

I was almost 18 and married to a mafia leader.

My thoughts seemed to eat me up slowly as the hours passed and the madness seemed to cave in. I kept glancing at the clock from time to time, wondering what would happen next.

     It was always unpredictable.

The last time, he had forced me into marriage; this time he might just deflower me mercilessly.

As disgusting as it sounded, it made my insides tingle. Since the wedding, the little confidence and self-respect I had was shriveling away slowly. I was ready to submit to him. I had nothing left to live for. I had nothing. All my dreams and hopes had been crushed effortlessly. My hopes to be saved from the torture were all gone.

The book had been long forgotten and my eyes were fixed on the window. The forest that stood tall outside the window was quite interesting at the time; it somehow slowed time down. The healthy pines reminded me of my aunt, who rarely visited. She was a jolly woman but never crossed paths with my dad. They resented each other to an extent that they were capable of ripping each other's throats off.

       The glistening green leaves-

"Pack your things, we are moving to our new home."

To all those that have gone this far, thank you so so much. I would love a vote and even comment to know your thoughts on the chapter. 🙃
