"Your first test will be a race. I will sort you into heats at random and call groups up as we go." Mr. Aizawa explained. "Alright, group one, Aoyama, Ashido, Asui, Iida, Uraraka. Line up in that order.".

Both Midoriya and Chiharu waved to Uraraka and Iida as they took the field. Izuku already know that Iida would win based on his quirk alone, but he had hardly seen any of the others in action. Chiharu laughed when he saw the sparkle in his friend's eye, knowing it was only a matter of time before every single member of their class would have a page in one of Izuku's quirk analysis books.

Mr. Aizawa counted them down and suddenly it was like a blur. The navel laser guy Izuku had told Haru about ended up smashing into the pink acid girl. Iida was ridiculously fast and Uraraka didn't even use her quirk in his one. The frog girl was pretty fast too.

"Alright, I've written all your times down. Group two, Ojiro, Kaminari, Kirishima, Koda and Mineta line up." Mr. Aizawa said, his tone already bored. He was quite the character, Haru couldn't help but wonder what he would be like as a teacher.

Kaminari made a point of waving to Chiharu as he walked up to his line and the black haired boy excitedly waved back. "Where'd you meet him?" Izuku asked, his voice combined with the start of the race startling Chiharu a little.

"Oh, he was in my group during the entrance exam." The black haired boy explained, "I saved him from the zero pointer and we exchanged numbers.". Izuku just nodded, not meeting Haru's eyes. A treacherous part of the boy's brain asked if Izuku was jealous but Haru knew it wasn't the case. He was probably just genuinely curious. Its not exactly normal for either of them to have other friends.

They went through group after group until there was only one left. "Group 4, Hagakure, Bakugou, Midoriya, Iwamoto and Yaoyorozu line up. You're the last ones." Mr. Aizawa said with a sigh.

To say it was awkward would be an understatement. It was weird enough that the three had been sat right next to each other, but this too? Chiharu shivered at the thought of being in Bakugou's group in everything for the rest of the year.

The group walked to their lines, readying whatever they had planned. At least Chiharu was fast. Hawks put such an emphasis on speed that he felt confident in not getting expelled for his score in this activity.

Haru exhaled as he readied himself to run. The beep sounded and they were off.

------- -------- -------- -------- -------- ------- -------- --------

Second. Holy shit he placed second. Chiharu still couldn't believe it as he walked to the next evaluation. The black haired girl, Yaoyorozu his mind supplied, had materialized roller skates right onto her feet but it hadn't been fast enough.

In order it was Bakugou, Chiharu, Yaoyorozu, Midoriya, Hagakure. The poor invisible girl wasn't the strongest runner.

Still, Chiharu would take only losing to Bakugou as a victory cause honestly he couldn't give a shit about Bakugou after all he's done to Izuku over the years. While Mr. Aizawa wasn't looking Haru pulled out his phone and tapped at it excitedly.

'We had a race where we were able to use our quirks however we wanted to' He texted, buzzing with excitement 'And I got second!!!'.

Keigo was quick to reply. '😁 I knew making you chase me would work out! '. Chiharu rolled his eyes and send a '🙄' back. Hawks wasn't wrong though. If he hadn't pushed Haru he probably wouldn't have done so well. The fact he had beaten Izu was weird considering they were about the same height and the only difference was how long they had been training. Izuku should have been faster than him.

"You ready for the next one Haru?" Izuku asked nervously. Chiharu smiled and nodded.

"We're like-the only people not using our quirks to help us. Besides, its only the first round. I'm sure we'll do well enough overall." The black haired teen, hoping to cheer his best friend up. Izuku nodded, looking determined but also a little guilty.

Haru couldn't figure out why until he realized that Izuku still didn't know that Haru knew that Izuku had a quirk. Wow, that was a mouthful. Well it'd be impossible for Izuku to hide it forever, so Haru started practicing his reaction. He had to look surprised and overjoyed, and maybe a little pissed that he wasn't told earlier.

------- -------- -------- -------- -------- ------- -------- --------

The moment came when green lightening formed around Izuku's finger tips as he threw the ball. It dropped to the ground, completely untouched with no power to it, and Izuku spun around to face the class in confusion.

"I erased your quirk because if I had let you throw that you would have broken multiple bones." Mr. Aizawa said, his red eyes reverting back to black as his hair fell back into place. "You have a powerful quirk but without the proper tools to wield it  you'll only be a burden on a battlefield. Sure you'll get one punch in, but then your teammates will have to rescue your broken body.".

The teacher took a deep breath but stayed firm. "You can't become a hero with that sort of quirk and strategy.". Izuku looked shell shocked.

"What the fuck do you mean quirk?!?!" Bakugou shouted from behind them. Everyone just ignored him, Chiharu included. His eyes were glued to Izuku, watching carefully as the green haired boy turned back around, ball gripped in his hand.

The green lightening formed again but not as seriously this time. It concentrated itself around his hand and the moment he tossed the ball it disappeared. The ball went far. Like further thank Bakugou's far. Chiharu stood there, completely shocked.

This wasn't what he was expecting but somehow the quirk fit Izuku. It seemed like a classic hero power, like the sort of thing you'd see in a comic book. Perfect for his Izu-Izuku. Not his. Whoops.

Speaking of which, Izuku himself turned back around to face the class with a large smile. "I can still move!" He announced proudly, clutching his injured finger. Mr. Aizawa smiled and said something like 'this kid' under his breath. He wrote Izuku's score down and that was when Bakugou lost it.

"How the fuck did you get a quirk Deku?!" He shouted, lunging for him, "You little-". Chiharu jumped in before anyone else could, driving his shoulder into Bakugou's chest, knocking the blonde off balance but not to the ground. Bakugou blasted him with a few explosions but because of Haru's quirk they didn't do anything.

Mr. Aizawa stepped in, giving the trio a indecipherable look before wrapping Bakugou up in his scarf. Izuku was already mumbling something to himself about the weapon as he walked back to join the class.

------- -------- -------- -------- -------- ------- -------- --------

So the twist had been revealed, no one had been expelled and they still hadn't talked about the quirk thing. Haru felt awkward bringing it up, but he had to at some point so he waited until they were back in their neighborhood, passing a park across from their apartment building.

"When did you get suck a bad ass quirk?" Haru asked, watching as his friend went white as a ghost.

"Um-I uh I-" The blood re-entered Izuku's face and he flushed bright red. "I guess I'm a late bloomer? I'm sorry for not telling you earlier.". The green haired boy looked like he was about to pass out. Haru nodded.

He really wanted to say something about the promise they made the year they met about how they would never keep big things secret from each other, but Chiharu was reminded of his own big secret. You know, the fact he was desperately in love with Izuku. So the 14 year old decided not to be a hypocrite about it and kept quiet.

"I'm glad you finally got your quirk. You could have done it all without it, but you've wanted one for so long. I hope its worth the wait cause it took its sweet time appearing." Haru joked. Izuku laughed, relief flooding into his features.

"I'm glad you're my best friend, Haru." Izuku said, his tone really serious but happy. It was Haru's turn to blush. Not trusting himself not to confess right then and there, Haru just nodded and stared at his feet.

--------------------------------------------------------------

I think this is the first time I've ever used emoji's in one of my fics. Texting is kinda hard to represent in book form ngl.

Next arc is the battle training arc so look forward to -Chiharu finally talking to Bakugou about Izuku -lots of shouting -more Hawks and last but certainly not least how Haru fell in love with Izuku in the first place!
