Diana's POV

"I don't think you fully comprehend what you're seeing! Ava's been laying on a god damn bed with tubes in and out of her fucking body for the past two weeks and I'm the only one kicking ass and taking names!" I shouted at Lucas and he sighed, "I get what you're saying Diana but maybe there's more to this than a fucking car accident."

"There's bullet holes in my car. She wasn't shot.." I said and Lucas made eye contact with me. "She was shot at ... " I mumbled and turned to Ava. "She has to wake up ... like asap," I said and sat next to her on the bed.

Maybe I went to fast for her .. maybe too forceful. I should have chased her that night. I should have went looking for her. I could have at least called. If I had reported my car stolen maybe this would have been prevented but I could never stoop to such pettiness. Yet ... it could have saved her life. Save? No she's still here. She's still breathing.

"She was on her way to see Zachary... she kept mumbling his name," Lucas said looking out of the window.

"She thinks I cheated on her," I said stroking her fingers. "I don't think you exposed her enough. I can understand how she feels ... I mean shouldn't we both?" he replied glancing at her and then back out the window.

"What's the status on Zachary?" I asked and he smiled a little and then bit his lip. "He's doing better. It's hard to see him though. His father has a lot of security around him," he said. "Has he spoken much?" I asked and he shook his head. "He keeps asking about Jennifer ... have you seen her recently?" he asked. "Last I heard she went to Florida to speak to some psychologist. Can't say I care much after finding out her and Derek have something going on. I've never seen him go that young," I said and his eyebrows furrowed.

"How did you know that?" he asked.

"I could ask you the same?" I replied and raised an eyebrow at him.

His eyes locked with mine as I undid the beads from my neck. "Di- Dia.."

"Ssshh..."

The beads swung in a circle out of rhythm yet with strength. In that moment he saw his death and his loneliest moment. A tear fell from his eye and then I put him to sleep. I took a deep breath and looked at Ava one last time as his body hit the floor.

"I won't kill them. You wouldn't approve of that. However, I will stick each of them in solitude with nothing but themselves to take thank for their miserable, lack of purpose and pathetic lives. Only thing I beg of you Ava is that you wake up. I need you to wake up ... and I don't need anything .. I don't beg at all actually," I said and then opened the door for Twain.

"What happened?" he asked.

"He got upset over Ava and started hyperventilating. Make him very comfortable back at the hotel by the boardwalk. I know he'll appreciate that ," I said and he nodded.

I went to go see my car and looked at the bullet holes. I sighed. Who in the fuck would shoot at Ava? "Is it even worth fixing?" I asked the BMW specialist. He shook his head. "It's a total loss. It's possible yes to replace every piece on the car but you'd be-" I waved him off and sighed looking at the car.

"It was my first BMW," I said and he shook his head. "Worst wreck I've seen. What happened anyway ... did they make it? It's a lot of blood.. " he asked and I cringed. "She ran a red light and got t-boned by a  speeding tow truck. She's fighting," I said forcing a smile. He nodded and I left.

I went to Feu Bleu. I went straight up the steps into the V.I.P booth and Alek and I met eyes. "Everybody out," I said and they all got up and left.

"Alek, j'ai besoin que tu travailles pour moi," I said calmly.

(Alek I need you to work for me.)

She chuckled viciously. "I work for your ex-husband," she said and popped a beer top with her teeth. Alek was a Russian punk who did indeed work for my ex-husband. Alek was his version of Lucas. She was the daughter of  Viktor Bratzi, the head of The Russian Mafia. She was quite pretty. Not enough for me , a good fuck if I ever wanted to hear my name being screamed. My name "Diana" severing somebody's vocal cords and forcing them to be humble.

"Il t'a viré il y a un moment pour Jennifer."

(He fired you a while ago for Jennifer.)

Her eyes widened in shock. "Who do you have?" she asked. Her accent was thick. She now sat up and gave me her full undivided attention.

"Ce n'est pas qui. C'est combien de... Cette dépanne use n'était pas prévue ce soir-là. J'ai des questions que seule une femme comme vous pourrait obtenir les réponses complètes à."

(It's not who. It's how many ... That tow truck wasn't on schedule that night. I have questions that only a woman like you could get the complete answers to.)

"I can not help you. It would be too obvious. Too dangerous. However ... C'est toi qui m'As enseigné le français. C'est eux qui vous enseigneront le russe. Derek a changé. Pour valider vos craintes... pour le pire. "

(It was you who taught me french. It is they who will teach you russian. Derek has changed. To validate your fears ... for the worst.)

She reached into her blazer and gave me a white business card with a number.

"The first call is payphone. Say your name. Then hang up. They'll find you," she said and I nodded.

I went downstairs to the real Feu Bleu and into my office. Paperwork, contracts, dust, more contracts, dust and some more contracts. I spent hours catching up and then going back to the hospital to see Ava.
