We got the sonograms and I dropped Danielle off with her mother before heading home myself.

I had work that needed to be done and papers that needed my signature. No time to have conversations with anyone.

The whole drive home, something was bugging me.

Pounding at the back of my head.

Amari was pregnant?

She was expecting a kid with Justin?

Something about that didn't sit right with me.

I always thought that Amari and I would be on good terms when this day came.

A part of me always thought it would've been my child she was expecting.

I was happy for her, nevertheless.

She deserved this.

She's spent her whole life loving everyone and thing with no boundaries. She deserved to have someone love her just as endlessly.

When I made it home, the first thing I did was shower before heading to my in home office.

The sonogram I was carrying burning my fingers.

Something really didn't feel right.

I walked over to the bookcase and pulled down the baby book Danielle had started when we were expecting our first child.

The book seemed heavier.

Something was off about everything.

I was missing something.

Amari

"I don't like Ice Cream." I said leaning against the grocery cart as Justin debated over which flavor our child would prefer.

"So? You might get a craving for it later." He said. "My Mom did when she was pregnant with my little brother and sister."

"I won't, though." I laughed. "Let's go get burritos."

"I can make you a burrito." He said putting Strawberry Ice Cream in the cart.

"I know, but I want the ones you just pop in the oven." I said. "It's minimal to no work."

"Okay." Justin laughed. "Whatever you want, baby."

I opened the baby book and allowed my fingers to glide across the page.

It had been a minute since I last looked in this book.

My eyes scanned all of the sonograms glued to the page labeled First Check Up.

I grabbed the glue stick and just as I went to glue the sonogram on the page, I noticed just how similar it was to another one.

To the first one.

"You'd have diabetes if I weren't in your life." Justin laughed looking over the cart full of junk food.

"What? I can't cook so why buy real food?" I asked digging in my bag for my ringing phone.

"You'll never learn if you never try." Justin said. "Keto bars?"

"Yeah. My Mom asked me to grab some diet bars because she's trying to eat healthy." I said giving up on the phone that had silenced itself.

"It has chocolate on it." Justin said holding up the box. "And they're disgusting."

"I know. I want her to have a treat after she's done exercising. How do you know that they're nasty?" I asked. "We've never bought them before."

"We hand these out at basic training. No one likes them." He said putting them back on a shelf. "Lets go find some diet bars that are actually good."

"Or we can get her freeze pops instead." I smiled at him as we left the isle.

"The ones that you like?" He laughed.

"Yeah." I nodded. "My parents think just because I don't live there that means they don't have to buy my favorite foods anymore. So I'll buy my favorite foods for them."

"Real power move." Justin smiled throwing his arm over my shoulder.

Could sonograms of different babies be identical?

Maybe it was just a coincidence.

Maybe the Doctor had a mix up and gave us the wrong sonogram.

The story wasn't adding up.

I was missing something.

Amari

My phone rang again as Justin and I tried to put the groceries in the car.

"Who's calling you?" Justin asked.

"I don't know." I shrugged. "Probably Lana, but I'm mad at her."

"It might be important." Justin said putting the last bags in the car. "How often does Lana call? She usually texts you or pops up at the house."

"Probably..." I mumbled.

"I'll take the cart back." Justin said motioning towards my phone that was still ringing.

I got in the car and grabbed my bag from the backseat. I dug through it for my phone again and looked at the caller I.D.
