Amari

All day the thought of being pregnant nagged at me.

How could I be pregnant right now?

Nothing was going right in my life and now there was a possibility of a baby?

What kind of joke is this?

I stared at my house that I had been parked outside of for at least an hour.

I didn't want to go in. I didn't want to have to tell Justin about this.

"What's wrong with me?" I sighed laying my head against the steering wheel. "I haven't even taken a test."

I reached over in the passenger seat for the pregnancy tests I had stopped to get.

"I don't even feel pregnant." I rolled my eyes.

What does pregnant feel like?

My phone rang for the sixth time since I've been out here.

It was Justin again. We were supposed to be at my Parent's house 30 minutes ago.

"I can't go over there." I shook my head staring at my phone. "Mom will call me out on this if she thinks I look pregnant..."

The torture of having black parents? They think they know your full life story just by looking at your hands.

Sadly, they're right most of the time.

I was knocked out of my thoughts by another car pulling into the driveway. I slid down in my seat and watched them in my mirrors.

The car parked and Hunter and Angel got out of the car.

I slid the window down and they looked over at me.

"Hey!" Hunter skipped over to me. "Can we borrow some sugar?"

"You came all the way to my house to ask for some sugar?" I asked.

"No. We came because your Mom said you weren't answering anyone's phone calls." Hunter said. "She told us to play it cool. That was our coverup."

"He came up with that one all by himself." Angel said getting in the passenger seat. "What's this?"

"What's what?" Hunter asked. "I want to go through Amari's car too."

He climbed in the back and before I could stop them, they were staring at my receipt.

"You're pregnant?" Angel asked quietly.

"Is it Tyler's?" Hunter asked touching my stomach.

"I'm not pregnant and if I were, it wouldn't be Tyler's." I said moving Hunter's hand.

"That sucks." Hunter sighed. "I want a nephew, but Tyler's sperm doesn't work. I think it has something to do with the fact that he's actually a bit..."

"Don't curse in my car." I said quickly.

"How do you know that you're not pregnant if you haven't taken the test?" Angel asked.

"Because I know my body and I think I'd know if there was another one growing inside of it." I said.

"But you don't know which is why you bought the test, genius." Hunter puckered his lips.

"I will put you out of my car." I laughed turning around to look at him.

"And I'll go knock on the door." He shrugged.

"Point is, I don't really need the test. I don't know why I bought it." I shrugged grabbing the receipt from Angel and putting it away.

"Amari..." Angel said quietly. "What're you going to do if you are pregnant?"

"What do you mean?" I asked staring at my nails as tears threatened to spill from my eyes.

What was I going to do?

"Justin won't be around all of the time because of his job, Amari." Angel said. "You'll be on your own, basically."

"I know..." I said quietly.

"Don't cry." Hunter said climbing into Angel's lap and reaching over to hug me.

"I can't be pregnant, Hunter." I cried. "I can't do this."

"Sure you can." Hunter said softly. "If you are pregnant, you'll be a kickass Mom and you'll have Me, Angel, Lana, Your parents, My parents, and even Tyler. You won't really be alone."

Angel reached over and grabbed my hand.

"Yeah." Angel agreed. "And Hunter and I work from wherever we want so we'll be able to help you whenever."

"But you have to agree not to freak out when we kidnap your child and take it out of town with us." Hunter said and I looked up at him.

"Shut up." I laughed hitting him softly.

"Come on. Your Mom said not to leave until you and Justin leave." Angel said.

We all got out of the car. Hunter put my pregnancy tests in the pocket of his hoodie so Justin wouldn't see it when we walked into the house.

"Are you okay? Where were you?" Justin asked rushing over to me.

"I'm fine." I smiled at him. "I need to go shower real quick. I'll be ready in a hour."

"Okay." Justin nodded.

"We're gonna go help her." Angel said grabbing my hand.

Hunter came out of the kitchen with the whole container of blueberries and nodded at Justin.

"I'm helping too." He said. "Wait down here."

And he rushed upstairs behind me and Angel.

They stood in my bedroom while I went to take the test. When I was finished, I washed my hands and let them in.

My hands shook as I held the test waiting for the answer.

Hunter sat on the counter and Angel leaned against the wall.

"If this doesn't come out..." I said quietly as the answer slowly showed up on the test. "Negative. It's negative."

"Awe man..." Hunter pouted. "That sucks."

"Really?" Angel and I looked at his blankly.

"What? You aren't the only ones who had high hopes about this." Hunter said. "I'm leaving and I'm taking your blueberries."
