"For me, forgiveness and compassion are always linked: how do we hold people accountable for wrongdoing and yet at the same time remain in touch with their humanity enough to believe in their capacity to be transformed?" - Bell Hooks

2 Weeks Later...

Central Park, New York 4:13pm...

Zee...

"I don't love her,
I tried to tell myself,
But you can see it in my eyes.
So don't deny, I can't fool no one else, the truth is in the tears I cry. Cause If it isn't love, why do I feel this way, why does she stay on, my mind. If it isn't love, why does it hurt so bad, make me feel so sad, inside. If it isn't love. I told her I'd never fall in love, but now I know better." Bricks sings to New Edition- If it Isn't Love as we gather food on our plates. I swear I hate this damn song thanks to him.

It was two weeks after I told him when I said I love him, that it was mistake. So for revenge him and his boys, and a couple of females performed this song for the talent show. It started off sweet with Candy Girl, then it switched to If It Isn't Love to Poison. All songs by New Edition and BBD. But his finale was a solo, and he sung Jackson 5 -Never Can Say Goodbye. If I didn't feel the guilt that night. Especially because the whole night he was looking at me.

"Please shut up." I mummer, as we go sit down in the white chairs.

"You're clearly mad." He chuckles. I roll my eyes saying my grace, starting to eat the potato salad first. We're waiting on my dad and the rest of the inmates to arrive. He received his GED today and I'm so proud of him. We've been talking since I visited him two weeks back. We learned a lot about each other, even have some of the same similarities in what we like and don't like. I'm definitely a clone of him.

I see Knight with his black cap and gown exiting off the bus. I see him browse the park so I stand and wave to catch his attention. He smiles, walking over toward me with Brannon right behind him.

"Congratulations!" I squeal, running towards him with open arms. He laughs, wrapping his arms around me while kissing my forehead.

"Thanks baby girl. I heard you cheering for me like a young ghetto mama, proud of her 18 year old son." He chuckles causing me to laugh as we walk in a side hug to where Bricks is sitting.

"Yea. I had to let 'em know you know. My pops not the one to be fucked with." I smirk, laying my head on his ribcage. Compared to me everybody is the hell tall, I gotta look up at everybody with my 5'2" ass.

"I told you about your mouth." I blush, tucking my lips in.

"Sorry."

"Aye miss thang, where my hug at?" Brannon questions.

"Right here nigga, bring it in." Bricks smiles, standing to his feet with open arms. My dad laughs hardily, holding his chest. Brannon smacks his lips, walking off.

I keep telling this man I'm married, told him in two laugaunges. Do I have to write the shit down, damn. When I wasn't married, niggas was just ready to fuck and leave it at that like I liked it. Now that I'm snatched up, and loyal to someone, everybody wanna come out the wood works. Sheesh.

"Is this your husband you been telling me all so much about?" Knight questions. I nod moving from under my father's arm.

"Bricks this is my father Knight, Knight this is my husband Bricks." I introduce, they shake hands.

"Strong grip, I like that. Now is your real name Bricks? Or..."

"No sir, it's Jefe. Jefe Gomez." Knight points at him with furrowed brows and a smirk.

"Wait, your Tyrone's son? You got twin brothers right? Connor and Cornelius." Bricks nods suspiciously as they let hands go.

"Yea. You know them?" He questions.

"Yea we go way back. We use to work together back in the day, like when he first moved to BMore." Bricks nods as I hug him from behind, resting my chin on his scapula.

"Yea. You don't remember me though, you were too young. But I'm glad to know my daughter married someone that'll treat her with respect and love. With the shit she's been through, she needs that." I smile and laugh looking at nothing in particular.

"I really love her sir. I've been telling her that for years." Bricks chuckles, looking over his shoulder at me. I stand on my tippy toes to kiss his cheek.

"I love you too." I giggle, placing my heels back on the ground. I hear my dad laugh, looking at him as he was about to say something but Brannon whispers something in his ear. He nods bringing his attention back to us.

"Excuse me for a minute. I gotta handle some business with my lawyer." Bricks and I nod watching him walk off. I'm guessing it's about his case that reopens tomorrow. I really hope they let him go, even though I have a feeling they will. He was really in there for protection. But I don't want him in Baltimore. If Sirod finds out he's back, she might kill him and I don't want that.

Speaking of her, she's been hitting my phone up with different numbers. And I know it's her because she keep leaving messages, saying its your mother we need to talk. We have nothing to talk about honestly, and even I get a new number she'll still find a way to get in contact me.

Bricks turns around to me, putting my arms around his neck. He puts his arms around my waist, resting his hands on my ass while smiling down at me. I laugh, shaking my head.

"What?" He chuckles.

"You. Yes sir? Since when do you say sir?" I question, brushing the crumbs out of his beard. He laughs, licking his lips.

"Ima be honest. That nigga scares me." I burst into laughter, hitting him in his chest.

"Don't call my father a nigga. That's disrespectful." He nods and smiles.

"My fault, but forreal though. It's like we kids again, and I felt like I was about to get drilled like before I popped the question. Even though we're already married, he can still go in on my ass. Like what are your intentions with my daughter. I mean I already married you, I show you love and affection and I protect you the best way I can. What more can I do for you?" He rants. He's been nervous since this morning. I place my hands on either side of his face, smiling.

"Bricks you do enough, and it doesn't matter what people think. You and I both know what you're capable of so you can chill out." I tell him, kissing him. He askes for dominance, sucking on my bottom lip and I give it to him. I moan as he pulls me closer, wrapping his arms around my waist.

Tay...

I sit in the passenger seat, watching Zee swap faces with this nigga Jefe in disgust. These two always kissing in front of mafuckas like people wanna see that shit. It's clear I'm jealous, and I can be. How you gone give me the pussy, then a marry another nigga. Fucking hoe.

"Is that her?" Nano questions, I nod. I've been working and hiding out with Sirod since I escaped from Omari's crew. Call me disloyal, because he's my cousin I don't care. I'm not killing an innocent person. My line rings, and I see its Sirod so I answer.

"Did you find her?" She questions in irritation.

"Yea." I sigh.

"Where is she?"

"New York."

"Why the fuck is she in New York?!" Sirod yells. I pull the phone away from my ear screw face.

"Ima need you to calm the hell down! I don't know why she's he-" All of a sudden a brown skin man, jacks me up out the car through the window. My back is slammed up against the car making me drop my phone and crack it completely blank. Nano hops out the car, clocking a gun but the guard that came outta no where, points a shot gun at him. Why the fuck am I always getting into some shit!

"Fuck you looking at a married woman for nigga?" The strange man grits, gripping me up by my collar even tighter.

"Man I ain't looking at no married woman, I don't even know what you talking about. Get the fuck off me!" I try to get from his grip, but he pulls me up from the car throwing my back against it causing pain.

"So we lie now that's what we do?" He smirks.

"He looking at bae." The guard chuckles.

"Brannon you want some too! I am a free man now, don't get fucked up." He warns, not taking his eyes off me. I grill him as he grills me back.

"My fault." He surrenders.

"Now Ima ask your bitch ass again, why are you looking at my daughter? You stalking her?" He questions raising his head and brows. I sigh deeply, scratching my head. The answer is yes, but I'm doing a job and that I can't get out of unless it's death.

"That's a yes." The guy Brannon scoffs in laughter. The guy that's still holding me by shirt, grips tighter.

"Who you work for?" He questions, clenching his teeth.

"I-I- I—"

"I-I-I fuck you a damaged vinyl now? Your bitch ass was just talking about get off me and now you bitching. You hear this nigga B?" He chuckles, turning his attention towards Brannon then back to me.

"Yea, I hear him." Brannon chuckles.

"Aye bruh what's a vinyl?" Nano questions. We all sigh, dropping our heads. It's always that one dumb nigga.

"It's a record dumb ass." I tell him.

"Oh that thing that spins when the needle touches it! Ha! Why he ain't just say that shit then?" Nano chuckles. I run my hand down my face shaking my head. This nigga. The guy whispers to himself shaking his head.

"Are we done here?" I question in irritation. He lifts his head laughing, lightly slapping my face as I mug him.

"Yea nigga we done." He chuckles. I pick up my phone, not taking my eyes off of him. He just has this mug smirk on his face. I get in the car and close the door.

"By the way, tell Viola Daddy's home. I'll be visiting real soon." He chuckles, walking off. I don't know who the fuck Viola is but I ain't telling her shit. How am I suppose to anyway, if I never seen the person in my life.

"You good homie?" Nano questions, cranking the car.

"Just drive nigga. I got a class in 2 hours." I tell him. I don't know if I can keep doing this. For one it's making my feelings for Zee grow even more, two I keep getting beat up because I'm not cut out for this shit and three, I don't trust Sirod. I think she's trying to kill Zee as well.

Knight Dubois...

"You think he's going to tell her?" Brannon questions. I shake my head no. The nigga was too shaken to even process the shit. I seen the fear in his eyes, I could smell that shit too. Nigga was farting like crazy.

"Nah, I used a name he didn't know so he wouldn't. I want that bitch to be surprised when she sees me." I chuckle, biting into a burger.

"Is she drop dead gorgeous?" Brannon questions. I look at him and his smirked face, laughing hysterically. We both turned on our heels joining the rest of the cook out.

"You made a little jokey joke. But she will be, B. She will be." After getting the good news from the Judge and my lawyer Fredrick, I was ready to tell my daughter the good news. But I saw that same car that I saw this morning when I got off the bus. I knew it had be the work of Sirod because she's scared to do shit herself. The guy kept looking at Zee and I knew the work from the minute I saw it.

It's never done right that's why she was more of a house wife then any thing. I mean look what's she done to the steak out crew. Two young niggas that don't know shit about being discreet or looking out. How you gone be in the cut with the windows down? You giving yourself away dumb ass.

"Hey I got some good news." I tell Zee and Jefe as I approach them.

"What's up Dad?" I smiled just hearing her say that. I hate that I missed her growing up. It's the best feeling when your daughter looks up to you, knowing she'll be protected.

"I'm free baby girl." I smile from ear to ear with open arms and she runs into me hugging me. I hug her back laughing.

"That's good what did your lawyer say?" Jefe questions.

"Well of course I'm on parole, I gotta find a job in two weeks—"

"You got a place to stay?" Zee cheeses. I laugh and nod.

"I got a Condo out in Honduras, but I can't leave the state untill I clear with parole. I got a place I can stay though." I smirk.

"Well if you need a job, I got a place you can work at. I can help you build a résumé and they don't do back ground checks so you good." I nod, I like this dude.

"What is this job exactly?" I question.

"Traveling agent. You basciaclly book vacations for people and you go on trips yourselves. That's where I use to work at. The money is-"

"I'll take it." We all laugh as the people wrap up the party. It was time to go. I give Zee a hug and kiss on the forehead, dapping Jefe into a hug as they left. I say bye to a couple people as they get on the bus, shaking hands with some. I watched the bus pull off, as Brannon stood beside me. My ride pulled up, and the window rolled down.

"You ready boss?" Stokes questions, opening my door. I nod as Brannon and I both get in.

"What's next?" B questions.

"You'll see..."

Later That Night in Baltimore...

Sirod...

"Thank you." I mumble to the Uber driver, getting out with Zoey and Zaire following behind. I called members of my crew to pick us up, and all of them never picked up. Juice picked up, but he said he was getting his car fixed.

I know some asses are going to be lit tonight. I walk to the front door, rummaging through my keys for the right one. I put the key in the lock, trying to turn it but it wouldn't. I take the key out the knob, holding it up against the street light to see its the right key so why is it not working?

"Mommy come on I have to pee." Zoey whines doing a dance.

"I'm trying but the got damn key won't work. Somebody open this got damn door!" I scream banging on the door.

"Mama!" Zoey groans.

"I told you to use the bathroom before we left the mall." Zaire says, checking out her nails.

"I didn't have to go then." Zoey whines jumping up and down.

"I didn't have to go then. You should of went of anyway." Zaire mocks her tone.

"Zaire shut the hell up!"

"You shut the hell up!"

"I told you first!"

"I don't give-"

"How about both of y'all shut the hell up! Damn y'all 20 years old acting like fucking 3 years old! I'm trying to get us in the house and y'all out here acting like a bunch of fools!" The front door opens, and the porch light turns on.

"Is there a problem ladies?" A familiar voice chuckles. My heart drops as I slowly turn around to the man I thought I got locked away for years. I drop my shopping bags, with wide eyes as he smirks scratching his bare chest.

"Damn who is you?" Zaire admires in laughter. Knight leans up against door frame, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

"Yo step daddy." He smiles, biting his lip while looking at me. I stand there in shock still, feeling like I'm about to drop. I couldn't even fix my lips to say anything, because I had nothing to say at this point. I thought I'd never see him again.

"Aww man. I thought I could grab another sugar daddy in the works." Zaire mumbles, trying to walk in the house but Knight pushes her back by her forehead laughing.

"Uh uh. Nigga what chu doing?" She questions with attitude, brushing her hair down with her fingers.

"Y'all don't live here anymore." He says, throwing bags out the house on the lawn. I look down at them, frowning.

"What! Since when?" Zoey questions, still dancing around.

"Since today." He shot puts the last bag as we all look back and the door then closes. I thought he would never get out for the murder I committed, but it's clear I forgot who Knight even was. Damn this is some shit.

"Well. What do we do now?" Zaire questions saddened.

"I think ya better call Tyrone And Tell him come on, Help you get your Shit (come on, come on) You need to Call Tyrone (call him)." Knight sings Tyrone by Eryka Badu, while slowly closing the window. I see my other kids walking around laughing. He turned our own kids against me.

"Why y'all figure that out. Ima got take a leak, in the bush. My bladder is about to explode." Zoey groans, tip toeing off in the dark. I sigh heavily, looking through my phone to call an Uber. Looks like we're staying at the hotel until I can figure out what to do about Knight. Or I can always call Zee, she doesn't know about him. I put the phone to my ear, grabbing my bags.

"We're sorry the caller you are trying to reach is not taking calls at this time. Plea-" I groan in annoyance, hanging the phone up. I am her mother and I have been nothing but good to her. Why does she keep sending me to voicemail? Then again it is midnight, she's probably sleep. I'll try again the morning.

Knight doe. 😂😂👏🏽
