Frozen.

That's what I was.

Completely frozen in place.

I could sense Devin was assessing my every movement, my every facial expression.

And he knew that I knew. I gave it away way too quickly.

Like, holy shit. This was Leo's Dad.

The only person who Leo was scared of. And right now I was terrified of him too.

"I know what you must think of me-" Devin went to speak but I wasn't having any of it.

"Leave now or I'll start screaming." I may have been scared, and physically trembling in my seat but I wasn't stupid. The best way to get out of this situation was to threaten to cause a scene.

Devin raised an eyebrow, his eyes darting around the busy café. Would he risk it?

I didn't know what he wanted from me. He clearly knew who I was so Jack must have told him something about Leo and me.

There was no way it was a coincidence that we ended up in the same café.

"Come on now, no need to panic, we're just talking." Devin countered, relaxing back into his chair.

"I don't care. I don't want to speak to you or even see you. Leave now."

Devin's eyebrows narrowed, his jaw tightening slightly.

After a second, he dug his hand into his pocket, grabbing an old bus ticket and scribbling something down on the back of it.

He slid it across the table to me and I couldn't help but recoil away from the movement.

"Give this to Leo. Please."

Without another word, Devin stood from the chair and left the café.

The biggest breath I think I'd ever taken escaped my lips and I only just became aware of the pounding in my chest.

Glancing down to the bus ticket, I saw that Devin had written down a phone number. I'm guessing it was his number so he wanted Leo to contact him.

What I didn't understand was why he didn't just talk to Leo himself? Why go out of his way to find and follow me to pass on a message?

I think I ended up sitting and staring at my not-so-hot chocolate for about two hours.

Every so often, the smiley waitress would come over and ask if I wanted anything or even just wanted a chat but I politely refused each time.

I wanted to just go home and not leave the house for a week. Devin coming into the picture was a massive throw off for me.

I didn't want to speak to Leo and now Devin is demanding I give him his phone number? Why did my life decide to become more and more complicated with every passing day?

It was around lunchtime that I finally decided to leave town and make my way back to school.

I'd be able to lie my way back in, saying I had a doctors appointment or just had a headache this morning and felt better.

I'd barely had any sick days or was never rarely late either so I highly doubt they won't mind.

Plus the fact that I had detention still. That one hour session of sitting in a room with Leo watching my every move.

Attempting to put the whirlwind of emotions behind me, I continued my walk in the direction of school.

The first person to notice me walking to the front office was one of the receptionists who looked very confused.

"Miss McCoy? Why are you here? Your brother said you want home ill?" She questioned as she buzzed me through the door.

"Uh yea, but I'm feeling better now. Just a headache." I had to put it down to something simple otherwise they might not have let me back inside.

She gave me a quizzical look, before buzzing open the next set of doors which led me into the main part of the school.

Lunch was nearly finished by the time I got there and I headed towards my locker. Might as well have the right books on me for my last few lessons.

I was all caught up in homework and didn't have any deadlines coming up so my classes should be easy sailing.

The hallway by my locker was clear but I couldn't help but think back to this morning. Leo and Ivy just hanging around, like they were just waiting for me.

They probably were, the more I think about it. Kirsty was most likely asked to keep guard and look out for me and then give Ivy a signal to when I was nearly there.

Part of me wanted Leo to explain his side of everything... But did I really want the drama of it all? Especially with what I was going to be telling him soon.

I have a tiny feeling he wasn't going to be happy about his Dad being back in town and contacting me first.

Devin was smart though, he waited for the moment that I was alone, and chose someone close to Leo. He most likely knew that I knew about what happened to him as well, just to put me on edge even more.

My brain was working super hard to figure this out that I didn't even realise the arms coming towards me and wrapping around my body.

"Eliana! What are you doing here?"

I smelt Leo's aftershave before I even registered that it was him. I couldn't help but melt into him, my body not caring about the predicament I was in and returning the hug instantly.

Clenching my eyes shut, I made sure to take some long, deep breaths. The rest of today wasn't going to be fun.

"Hey, yea I started to feel better so decided to come in for the rest of the day. Plus I still have detention remember?" I mumbled into his chest as he still hadn't released his grip on me.

"I got really worried, you seemed really off. Are you sure you're ok?" Leo eventually pulled away and it hit my chest when he stared into my eyes.

Those rich, brown pools with flickers of gold in them. God, I couldn't even focus.

"Ye- yea, I'm fine. But I have to talk to you after school. Harvey doesn't know I'm back at school so I'm just gonna pretend I'm still home. He's going round Hunters tonight anyway so he won't check on me." I vaguely remember Harv chatting away in the car this morning about staying at Hunters because of the football game that was on.

Leo looked worried for a split second, which then turned skeptical.

"You're definitely sure you're ok?" He repeated again, his hand moving to the side of my head to tuck some strands of my hair behind my ear.

I nodded in response, going to reply but was cut off by the bell ringing through the corridors.

"I'll see you in detention." I gave a small wave to Leo before turning around and making my way to my music class.
