Kai's POV

I spit the blood out of my mouth and wiped it with my sleeve. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Lucas getting back up.

"Ready for round two, huh." I chuckled as I turned to face him, seeing Lucas also wiping the blood off his mouth.

"Round two? Nah. I'm just getting started." He smiled with a devilish grin.

He ran at me with a spin kick that I tried to block but ultimately knocked me to the ground. I hit my head hard on the concrete of the school's parking lot. I groaned when I rubbed my face as I stood up, I could feel the blood dripping from the side of my cheek, and naturally, my only response to that was to give him something in return. I lunged at him but he grabbed me into a tight hold, keeping my arms contained. I jabbed at his side with my elbow over and over again until he had to let go. His guard was down, this is my chance. With one swift blow to the face, Lucas was stumbling backwards holding his eye which would definitely be all sorts of black and blue by tomorrow.

As we were both regrouping I noticed the crowd that had gathered around us. It appeared almost as if every single student at Silveredge High School was here to watch us fight. But that's not uncommon.

Every time Lucas and I fight a huge crowd randomly appears, but that's because here at Silveredge our fights are the equivalent of watching a sports game, just more bloody. And that's basically every Friday during lunch break, and sometimes the beginning of 5th period too.

Lucas and I are the toughest, scariest, and, according to what I hear every single girl say during class, the hottest guys in school.

Yep, that's me. The school's number 1 "bad boy", yes, I visibly cringe whenever I hear someone call me that too. Lucas and I have been fighting over "#1" since freshman year but every time we decide to battle it out we are either both so beat up we can't continue the fight or someone intervenes before a winner can be declared. So technically I can still say that I'm number 1, I'm just tied for number 1.

If you wanted to you could almost compare us to rival gangs, me being the leader of mine and him of his. Some people wonder how two juniors can rule the school, but once they see us fight they no longer have anything to wonder about.

Just as round three was about to start I saw someone pushing their way through the crowd with a nasty expression on their face... Mr. Denquits, the principal. He was a short and stubby middle-aged man who was overly obese for someone who only stood at 5'3. He was practically a midget compared to my muscular, 6'3 frame. I relaxed a little bit knowing what was coming next, a long, long lecture about how fighting never leads to anything good in life.

As he shoved and squeezed his way through a crowd, which almost all of was taller than him, he stood right in front of me and Lucas and put his hands on his hips.

He pointed his index finger at me and shouted, "Kai! What in God's name are you and Lucas doing?!"

He smacked me on the back of my head with his thick binder and then proceeded to do the same to Lucas. He ushered both of us to follow him into his office. As we walked through the halls Lucas and I didn't say a single word, just exchanged dirty looks.

Even if we were both tied for #1, at least I won in height, although the gap wasn't all that large. He had a muscular, athletic frame and stood at 6'2. He had somewhat short and wavy, fluffy chestnut brown hair that often covered his forehead and large green eyes. His face was chiseled and he had a certain air around him that practically screamed don't mess with me. He wore long pants with a navy blue t-shirt under his badass black leather jacket that if I'm being totally honest, I really want.

As we walked into Mr. Denquits's office he motioned for us to both sit down. This was not the first time I had been in here with Lucas, this was just one of the many more occasions to come. The principal sat down in his comfy chair and folded his hands on his desk and looked at us straight on.

He sighed, just like always. "Boys..." He began, "How many times are you going to fight? Huh? What good could possibly come from it? I don't understand why you two can't just vent your anger out in normal sports like football or hockey, like other kids your age."

I've heard this speech nearly a million times and almost have the whole thing memorized. He goes on and on about how fighting is not the way to solve problems and then ends his speech with "I'll see you both at detention."

I sighed, yet another empty threat.

"If you boys keep this up I'll have no other choice but to start punishing you two in more creative ways! Do you two even care about your futures?? I've had enough of your little rivalry," he spat, "One more fight that I hear about, here or anywhere else, and you're both going to be scrubbing the toilets and scraping gum off of under the bleachers every day for the rest of your time in this school!! You hear me? This is your last chance."

It wasn't that big of a deal but the toilets here at this school probably only get cleaned once a year and are beyond disgusting. I don't care about detention, I just want to take care of all of my problems without worrying about needing to show up to school every single day.

As Lucas and I exited Mr. Denquits's office I noticed Lucas staring at me. It was a weird look. My first thought was does he want to kill me but when I really looked into his eyes I saw something else, but I just can't place what that something is.

We just stood outside the principal's office for a solid five minutes before either of us said anything or went back to class, but that might just be because the teachers here don't let late students into the classroom unless they have a pass, but Mr. Denquits didn't give us one and locked us out of his office.

The tension and silence was starting to annoy me so I decided that I would just leave. As I walked by Lucas I made sure to shove his shoulder really hard as I passed him, giving him that stare that we bad boys were famous for and all he did was laugh. God, it bothers me so much that I can't get to him, but he can't get to me either so it seems like it's just another tie.

I went into the bathroom to clean myself up a bit, after all, I was kind of dripping blood in more than a few places. I grabbed a couple pieces of paper towels, wet them in the sink and began to wipe the blood off my face and arms. I had to be extra careful of the gash along my cheekbone. That will definitely sting tomorrow. As I looked at myself in the mirror I saw that there were little bits of blood in different places on my plain white t-shirt but there was one spot right under my ribcage that seemed to be drenched. I lifted up my shirt to see the damage, revealing my eight pack. It looked like I tore the stitches of an old wound that had reopened during my fight with Lucas. I cleaned it up a little and then put my shirt back down.

I'm so tired of these little petty fights that mean nothing in the long run. It was just a distraction from the real fighting that I did. Plus the fact that my reputation has to be as strong as it can or no one else I fight will take me seriously. This is just a battle of pride.

I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror, I needed to get my head on straight and sort out my priorities.

My dark brown hair became even darker drenched in sweat, making bits of my hair cover my hazel eyes. In all honesty, I thought I was rather good looking, even with the extremely high Korean beauty standards, especially because of my eyes. There aren't a lot of Korean's, or any Asian's for that matter with any eye color other than dark brown. There's nothing wrong with a bit of confidence.

I pushed my hair out of my face and did another once over in the mirror. Besides the splotches of blood on my shirt and my jeans that now had a few tears, I didn't look too bad, especially considering how Lucas looks right now. He's just as beaten up and bloody as I am, the only difference is he's wearing more black so you can't see the blood.

When I walked out of the bathroom, 6th period had already ended. I went to the back of the school near the parking lot to meet up with my friends.

"Kai, why the hell haven't you beaten Lucas's ass yet? What are you waiting for man?" Jack said to me.

Jack has straight blonde hair that is draped over his face like a curtain, covering his blue eyes. He is much smaller than me, almost 5 inches smaller, but all the same, he's a good guy.

Zayden took a cigarette out of his mouth and chimed in, "Yeah, Kai. I've seen you fight for real, and that, that thing that you're doing with Lucas. Dude, your just playing with him. My question is why?" He furrowed his brows and his dark brown eyes dug into mine with a playful smile plastered across his face

Zayden was by far my best friend. I've known the dark-skinned, 6'0 boy since I was 11. He knows more about me than anyone else at this school does, but he doesn't know everything. Everyone has some secrets, some are just bigger than others.

"Everyone's got their reasons for stuff, Zay." I smiled as I hopped in the back of Jack's red pick up truck.

As Zayden got in on the passenger's side I slid open the window so I could talk to them, "Where we goin' boys?"

"Hannah Soder's party." Jack turned around and smiled at me. For some reason, he thought I was totally into Hannah but in reality, I thought she was super stuck up, nosy, annoying, and honestly she wasn't even that hot.

"Trust me, she's not my type," I said that because I didn't really have a type, I just wasn't interested, there's more important things in my life than trying to get into a girl's pants.

Jack and Zay both gave me that look that said they didn't believe a single word that just came out of my mouth.

"Of course not." Zayden looked at Jack and then back at me with the most sarcastic look he could ever muster up.

I needed to change the subject so I thought of one of the only things that they love more than messing with me, drinking. "Let's go get drunk!!" I yelled as I hit the back of his car.

There's not a single good thing that comes out of drinking at a party. I always wake up the next morning on some random person's lawn, but the good thing about getting drunk, it makes you forget about all your problems, and right about now, I could really use something strong. I don't care where I wake up tomorrow morning.
