Kyle POV

Eugenia's body has been taken to the morgue and right now I'm at the police station. I was questioned a few times and asked to write a statement which I did. The sheriff promised to investigate Eugenia's death and put her murderer behind bars but that won't be enough, the bastard has to die.

I was asked to vacate the house while the investigation was going on and also to ensure my safety but I declined. I would have nowhere to stay and all I need is the comfort of my house. After the threatening writing on the wall, I want to protect everyone I care for. I called my dad explaining everything to him and advised him to be extra careful and not to come home. I called the guys to meet at Lia's house with Amira, they deserve to know I'm in danger and they can be too.

I walked out of the police station and made my way to Lia's house, I have some explaining to do. I don't think they would want to hear anything I have to say, especially Lilia. I hurt her deep but it's not like it was my fault, I was forced to do that. It's been a week since I ended the relationship and ever since I felt like something vital has been removed from me. I know it's lame saying all this but I'm not kidding. That girl completes me.

I parked in front of her house and got down seeing Caleb's car already parked. They must be in. I made my way to the front porch and knocked a few times before I heard shuffling on the other side of the door signalling a person is coming to open the door. I was right. The door opened and revealed Lilia's face.

"Hey," I said awkwardly.

She studied my face before replying.

"Hey."

"Can I come in?" I asked politely.

She rolled her eyes and moved aside making a way for me.

"Thanks," I muttered. She shut the door and walked into the living room where the others were.

"Hey." I greeted. Not a response from them.

"You said you have something to say?" She asked, folding her arms.

"Yeah," I said scratching the back of my head. Where do I start? I kept on staring at them clueless about what to say.

"Look man if-" Caleb started.

"Eugenia is dead," I said, immediately regretting it came out of my mouth.

They all tensed up hearing this.

"What?!" Lilia was the first to speak, clearly in shock.

I nodded.

"How man?! What the fuck happened?" Caleb asked. I could feel the hurt in his voice.

I bit my lip, trying to stop the tears that threatened to flow. I remember everything clearly, the blood, the bullet holes, it was horrifying. "She wa--s shot in th-e he--head," I said stuttering.

A gasp escaped Lilia's mouth. Her eyes were teary and any minute from now she would begin to cry.

"Who could have done that?" Amira asked, a wash of sadness on her face. She has never met Eugenia but I guess Lilia would have told her who she was and how dear she was to me.

"I wish I know." The police are still investigating."

Sawyer sighed putting his hand in his head. I understand Sawyer will be pained. When Eugenia first arrived I was cold and hostile to her because I believed she was here to take my mom's place, but Sawyer became friends with her immediately and even called her 'ma.' They would play pranks together, she would teach him Spanish and make his favourite dish. I became jealous and began to warm up to her.

"When did this happen?" Sawyer asked raising his head, his eyes were red.

"Two nights ago," I said.

He sighed again. "I'm so sorry Kyle, I know how much she meant to you," Lilia said with a crooked voice.

I nodded.

"That's not all. The murderer said someone will be next." I said.

"Uh?" Amira asked confused.

I breathed in slowly.

"I've been living in fear for the past weeks, getting strange phone calls, death-threatening messages, people bumping into me and telling me I'm gonna die soon or they're gonna kill me, stuff like that."

"So you mean you almost having an accident then was planned?" Lilia asked with widening eyes.

"Yes. I just didn't want to tell you so you won't panic."

"Was that why you broke up with Lilia? Did they threaten you?"

I sighed. "Yes." Looking into Lilia's eyes. "They threatened to kill her if I continue with the relationship."

"That's bullshit!" Caleb said.

"You should have told me you were going through all this." Lilia slowly said. I looked into her eyes and it was hurtful. I didn't know what to say again.

"I'm sorry I couldn't. I was afraid of losing you. I really love you and all those things I said wasn't true. The cold face I wore was a facade of what I truly feel. I'm sorry."

Lilia sighed. "I believe you. It's okay."

I breathed a breath of relief. She understands everything will be fine.

"What are we going to do now?" Sawyer asked softly. He is still shaken up about Eugenia's death.

"I don't know, I have no idea who these guys are or where the threats comes from."

"We need a clue, something to give us an idea of what we are dealing with," Caleb said.

"I don't know guys, all I know is we should be careful. They might want to come after you guys because you're my friends."

"Are you sure it isn't one of those girls you shag?" Amira asked sassily.

"I don't know..." I trailed off. It can't be a girl doing this I guess but what if it's a heartbroken girl from the past? Naa I don't think so.

"It might be someone from school," Sawyer said.

"Someone from school? Kyle isn't a bully." Lilia said frowning.

"Still... We have to consider all." Sawyer said.

"What about Paige?" Amira asked. We all stopped to think.

"Naa..." We said in unison shaking our heads. She's too much of a girl for that.

Lilia was about to say something when my phone rang.

Ring, ring, ring, ri-

"It's the sheriff," I said looking up from my phone. Maybe he has some news.

"Hello?"

"Hey son, we have footage from your house on the day of the incident and we think we got something." My ears shot up at this.

"Really? Okay, we'll be there now."

"Yeah."

The line ended.

"What's up?!" Lilia asked with curiosity.

"He said he has something I might want to see."

"Well, what are you waiting for, let's go!" Caleb said making his way outside while we followed behind. I'm grateful I'm not alone.

We got to the sheriff's office and he played us the footage. We watched closely and saw the camera coverage across the street. Nothing, only a few cars passing.

"What exactly are we supposed to be looking out for?" Sawyer asked, it's like a glimmer of hope being washed away.

"Sheeesh... Wait for it..." The sheriff said whispering. "There!" He shouted, pausing the footage and pointing at the screen.

I looked at the figure... a girl?

The sheriff zoomed in on the figure, she was now looking at the camera unknowingly. "Look closely..." He trailed off.

I stared into the screen and this face looks like...

"Amira?" We all said in unison except for Amira whose face was in shock.

"Me?" She asked stuttering.

"May I ask what you were doing there close to the time of the attack?" The sheriff asked now confused Amira.

"I-I do-don't know," Amira said stammering.

"So you just appeared there?" I asked rudely. She has to explain how she ended up in my neighbourhood and I don't know isn't an answer.

"Kyle..." Lilia trailed off putting her hand on my shoulder. She looked just as confused as Amira.

"You have to do better than that miss." The sheriff said to Amira.

"I was meeting someone there," Amira said.

"Who?" Sawyer asked.

"I don't know," Amira said.

"Look Amira I know you didn't do it and we didn't say you did, we just need you to explain clearly," Lilia said softly.

Amira sighed. "I was meeting somebody."

"Who?!" I asked clearly getting impatient.

"I can't tell you." She whispered, tugging at the hem of her shirt.

"Miss if you can't explain your reason for being there I have no choice but to lock you up." The sheriff says.

Amira sighed shaking her head, "I can't tell you... But I'm innocent." She said with a croaky voice. You can tell she would cry any minute.

"Sir please don't lock her up, she's innocent." Lilia pleaded.

"That's what they all say." The sheriff said grumbling grabbing the handcuffs.

"Kyle... Please." Amira pleaded.

I sighed. "What were you doing there, you don't live there so what are you hiding?"

"Amira please tell us, it's not like we want you to go to prison," Caleb said.

Amira looked at our faces like she was contemplating, weighing her options.

"I-I can't tell y-ou." Amira stuttered, shaking her head.

A cop in the room walked up to the sheriff, grabbing the handcuffs and placing them on Amira's hand. Amira started to struggle "You are under arrest, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford an attorney one will be provided for you. Do you understand the rights I have just read to you? With these rights in mind do you wish to speak with me?"

A single tear slid down from Amira's warm, butterscotch eyes, followed by another one, and another one, until soon, a steady stream of salty tears flowed it's way down her pale cheek, "I'm innocent, please!" Amira pleaded.

I didn't know what to say, I just stood there.

"You have to believe me guys, I would never try to hurt anyone," Amira said, struggling with the cop.

"It's best if you stop struggling girl. Take her away." The sheriff said.

"Don't, please. I think she's saying the truth." I said, putting my hand on the cop's arm to stop him.

"I'm sorry son." The sheriff placed his hand on my shoulder and squeezed it. "But unless she can say why she was there, I can't let her go."

"Amira say something they're gonna take you away!" Lilia yelled.

Amira kept on wailing and sobbing. "I can't!" The cop took her away but Amira's screams could be heard from afar.

"She is innocent," Sawyer said to the sheriff.

"We don't know that, we only know what she said." The sheriff said. "But I promise you as soon as we get enough evidence to prove her innocence, I'll let her go."

I sighed, running my fingers through my hair.

"You all can go now, as soon as we find something I'll give you a call."

I sighed. Lilia was the first to leave while we followed behind, Caleb and Sawyer got into Caleb's car. I thought everything was fine until Lilia burst out crying. All I could do was embrace her and let her tears soak through my shirt. I could feel her clench her fists not knowing whether to be mad or give up hope altogether. I could hear her silently screaming, suffocating with each breath. I ran my fingers through her hair, time and time again, in an attempt to calm her.

"She didn't do it. She wouldn't!" Lilia muffled through my shirt.

"I know, I know," I said calming her down.

She looked at me and wiped the tears from her cheeks which were now blotchy and mottled. "There has to be a mistake, why can't she tell us why she was in your area."

I sighed. "I don't know too. But I promise we will prove her innocence."

"She can't spend a night there Kyle! She's not a criminal."

"I don't know what to tell you, Lia. Amira will fine. I promise."

"Let's go." She got into the passenger's seat while I got into the driver's seat and drove off.

I dropped Lilia off and drove home. After the incident I got the whole house cleaned and disinfected. It's hard waking up here and it feels like something's missing. The kitchen looks empty, no one to cook and speak Spanish to, I still remember the blood, the bullet on her forehead, the writing on the wall. I shivered at this.

I went to the bathroom to take a shower. I need it, the day has been full of shit. Amira is in prison and Lilia is devastated, Sawyer is shaken up about Eugenia's death, Caleb is having mixed-up feelings about the whole situation and I think I do too.

I was dabbing my wet hair with a towel when a message popped up on my phone. I stretched my neck to it and saw its from an unknown number. Sighing, I picked it up and opened the message.

"TOO BAD SHE'S GOING TO JAIL"



We are getting so close to finding out the killer.

Its great Kyle told the guys about the threats and attacks.

Amira is in custody which is sad but why won't she tell us why she was in the area.

Another text, now that's intriguing...
