Ice cold Apologies

The basement was different in the day, much more calmer and there was hardly anyone here, except Liam who sat on a bar stool with a glass in one of his hands and an ice pack resting on the other. He swirled the dark liquid around the glass as I slipped into the seat next to him.

"It's a bit early." I pointed out.

"It's nine somewhere." He replied coldly.

"Yeah it's nine here ... in the morning." He slammed the glass down on the bar and pushed it away with his fingers. He turned to face me.

"Happy?" Honestly yes, the smell was making me want to vomit again.

He was giving me attitude, taking out his sour mood on me but I still couldn't allow myself to believe that he thought anything had happened between me and his best friend.

"Why did you punch Jordan?" His eyes were the sharpest shade of blue, every pigment of blended colour was visible. He looked at me as if I should already know the answer but I honestly didn't. I wanted him to voice the thoughts that were running through his mind.

"Because he is a dick." Liam simply said, it didn't really explain anything. It was merely just a statement, an opinion, one that was only true half of the time. "I just didn't expect to walk in and find my girlfriends body pressed up against my best friends. Your arms draped over his bare chest and he just slept there blissfully peaceful in your arms. He didn't appreciate it, he takes for granted what comes so easily to him and he got to lay like that all night with the one girl I want to lay like that with."

"Liam we sleep like that all the time." I pointed out, not really understanding where his rage was coming from. Sure I get it, it wasn't a great sight. I wouldn't like to see him like that with Tia but all we did was sleep, he knows that.

"Yeah but you don't know the inner struggle I have to go through just to do that. The nightmares that come afterwards just because sharing my bed makes them stronger. Fuck, if we go back to a year ago sharing a bed wasn't even an option available to me." Above all of the other emotions Liam was feeling right now sadness took center stage and there was nothing I could do or say to console him so I rested my hand on his and looked him deep in the eye.

"I'm sorry." I said sincerely. "I got pretty messed up last night and Jordan really did help me. He didn't cross any boundaries, he didn't betray you in any way, he told me not to touch him or face him but obviously I did when I was asleep. You really need to not make him feel guilty for being there because it's lucky that he was."

Liam grunted and pulled his glass closer to him again, tipping it back until every drop had disappeared. Then he called the bartender over, I expected him to ask for another refill but instead he requested more ice in a freezer bag. My mouth twitched up into a smile but he just scowled at me moodily. While we waited on the ice pack Liam turned to me, taking my hand in his.

"Will you do something for me?" My brow furrowed, I wasn't feeling up to doing much right now thanks to my hangover but for Liam I would do absolutely anything.

"Of course." I said without skipping a beat.

Liam took a deep breath, as if saying the words on his mind out loud was committing to them entirely and a fleeting moment of doubt crossed his face but I waited patiently.

"Will you come with me when he gets sentenced?" I froze, out of everything I expected him to ask this didn't cross my mind.

"You have to go to that?" I asked with confusion.

"They called me and said I didn't need to, I could give a victim impact statement via video link or write a letter. But I feel like this is something I need to, for closure." He pulled his face downwards, too ashamed to look at me in a moment where he felt weak for asking for help. I cupped his chin and gently pushed his head up.

"I will always be by your side." He smiled shyly at me and gave my hand a small squeeze for reassurance.

"It's in two weeks." He said quietly. I nodded my head slowly.

The bartender brought over the second ice pack and Liam grabbed it, rolling his eyes at me. He stood up and held his hand out for me to take and together we walked back to the suite.

Jordan was still hyperventilating on the sofas, Lola was flicking through the tv channels ignoring him and Harris was pacing the room backwards and forwards. There was no sign of Tia so I assumed she was still sleeping, she never was a morning person.

Jordan's eyes widened the second he saw Liam walk through the door. He made a small attempt to stand up but then dropped back in his seat, unsure on what to say or how to act.

"Here you douche." Liam threw the ice pack on Jordan's lap and a cute smile appeared on Jordan's face, knowing that this was Liams way of apologizing. Jordan held the ice pack on the pink area of his face. "Next time you take the floor." Liam told him.

"Next time she can take the floor." Jordan replied.

"What's up H?" I asked and Jordan released a dramatic sigh.

"He" he pointed at the back of Jordan's head, Jordan rolled his eyes. "Paid one of the cleaning staff to lock me in one of the standard rooms where I spent the whole night. No mini bar, no room service, no cable channels. I didn't have my phone, couldn't ring for help." I have never seen Harris angry before, it was actually quite entertaining. I wasn't doing a great job at convincing him that Liam and Jordan had changed. Liam throwing his fist around and Jordan's behavior speaking for its self wasn't setting off the greatest of impressions.

"I told her she wasn't spending the night in a hotel with you." He shrugged.

"You're a straight up psychopath." I told him and he smiled at me smugly.

"How many times, I'm not after Tia. I don't go with other peoples girls, I'm not you." Harris argued.

"I don't go with other peoples girls." Jordan defended.

"Says the one who just spent the night in bed with his best friends girl." Jordan stood up abruptly, fists clenched and ready to pounce. Liam grabbed him back and I stood in front of Harris who was equally as pumped, eager for this fight.

"Harris just stop. It's not worth it." I tried to console pushing my hand out on his chest in an attempt to move him further away.

Lola sighed from the sofa she remained so casual and carefree, her eyes glued to the television screen. "You are the most dramatic bunch of friends I have ever met." She said monotonously.

Somehow we managed to settle the raging anger of both boys. We sat around the sofa watching whatever show Lola had on. The atmosphere was dire and nobody was talking. Harris burnt his eyes into Jordan's scalp, refusing to look anywhere else and Jordan ignored him with a secretive smile on his lips.

"So Olive..." I could sense by his tone something dickish was going to come out of his mouth. Everybody could. We waited for it, something to cause another argument no doubt.

"What?" I asked skeptically.

"How are you feeling now that Liam is here?" He smirked and I peered at him with confusion.

"Fine?" I questioned

"Not feeling a certain way?" He inquired again with a knowing tone.

"What the fuck you on about now?" Liam asked. Jordan laughed to himself, he was the only one that understood his joke.

"I don't know-" I started to say but then I got a horrifying flashback of crying against Jordan's chest because Liam made me feel ridiculously horny all of the time. My cheeks flushed the brightest of reds and I covered my face. "Oh my God" I whispered.

Jordan's laugh grew louder at my expense.

What a dick.
