Kaydon

We're moving back.

Harry got a phone call last night and told us the whole fucking story.

~

Harry's name flashed across my phone when I stepped out of the shower. I quickly threw on some black sweatpants and answered the call.

"Hey, what's up?" I replied, sitting on the bed. I can hear him closing his car door and turning on the engine of his car. He's most likely heading home now.

"Hey kid," he said out of breath. "Look, will you get the guys for me too?" I furrowed my eyebrows. Is this some kind of news? Is it football? I cleared my throat and focused on the phone call that was still going on.

"Sure give me a second."

I walked out of my room and headed towards the living room. I blocked the speaker of my phone and sat down on the couch between Ty and Blake. "Harry wants to talk to us."

Blake groans and turned off the TV. Blake and Harry aren't the best father-son relationship out there, but they're trying. They get into arguments now and then. Either one of them throws a soda can at the other or starts trying to get close.

I unblocked the speaker of my phone and it on speaker for all of us to hear. "We're all here Harry,"I spoke.

"Good, now listen up boys," he sounded stern and rather demanding. Ty gave me a weird look but I just shook it off.

"Y'all are going back home. Now listen, it's for your best interest to see if you guys wanna leave the town for good and move out here or stay there,"

Ty stood up abruptly with a shocked look on his face. "Wait, we can go back?" he asked. Blake's eyes were widened and he was staring off in space. My heart was pounding and thoughts were running wild in my head at the thought of coming home.

What about football at Elwood? We're the top players here. We can go home. What about Sarah? Will our relationship work out? What about running into-

Sierra.

"Wait, you're saying we have a choice to live back home?" I ask. I can make things right. I HAVE to.

Harry lets out a frustrated sigh. "Yea, but please be sure of your decision. Think about your future. What about Sarah, huh Kaydon?"

That question hit me in the gut. She's great. Really great, but do I see a future with her? Do I see myself saying the three word phrase I dread the most to her? It all comes down to what I see right? Or can I make it work?

"Harry, I'm not sure-"

"Make a damn choice already!" he suddenly shouted through the phone. Blake visibly jumped and Ty just stared at the phone intently.

I look at the guys and all their emotions were the same. Ty wants to go back to his family, his brother. Blake wanted to see his sister again.

My heart is telling me to go back to just make things right with Sierra.

So do I?

"How long do we have to figure out?" Blake suddenly asked. Silence was only there for a few moments. We need time. Time is all it takes. I love it here, I do, but home. Home is home.

Harry let out a small groan and finally spoke into the phone.

"We'll see."

~

And here we are. We're in Harry's car, a couple minutes away from our old neighborhood. The thought of coming home to the family I had have me have chills down my spine.

Does she know? Is she happy to see me?

My phone lit up and it was a message from Sarah. The thing with her is that I broke things off last night. Yeah, yeah the cliche, Let's break up, shit.

She wasn't sad, I would say, but rather confused and angry. She keeps on texting me on how bad of a boyfriend I was and trying to win me back. The boys literally hugged me with tears in their eyes when I said I broke up with her.

"She really is obsessed," Ty whispers and I flicked him on the back of his head. Obsessed is the correct term. I open the text and it was a picture of her in a red dress but I left her on read and silenced the notifications of her messages.

We turn into the familiar neighborhood and I spot the boy's houses. The two story grey, wood suburban home was Ty's with his brother's, Tavis, basketball hoop outside. The one beside it was the same type of building with flowers and plants outside and a full on deck with patio chairs was Blake and Cameron's. Blake's eyes were glossy as he stared at his house. It changed so much since ten years ago.

Then there's mine. The one on the left of Cameron and Blake's with the lights out and no cars in the driveway. The usual. My parents work for business. They travel ALL the time leaving me alone but I don't mind at times.

It does mess with my shit though. My parent's never actually attended my eighth grade graduation, never saw me in a suit for my freshman homecoming, never said anything when I passed my driver's test, never said happy birthday to me during the years, never cooked me an actual good full dinner, never congratulated me on varsity football. Sure, they couldn't come to Elwood but they could've texted or even called. These things mattered, right?

My vision then travels to the house where the big tree in the middle is connected to my window and the window on the left. The Laurken household. I would use to make Sierra shit her pants from walking across the branches to her window just to hang out. She would always lecture me on the dangers of walking on high surfaces.

The thought of her makes my palms sweaty and I just look at the lock screen of me and the guys on my phone to distract myself. The fight before she left got me deep. Shit happened to us when we left. She was sure as hell right.

I don't know why I didn't do anything when Sarah called Parker a bitch. I have no excuse, no explanation, just nothing. It was stupid of me I know. Harry parked on the side of the sidewalk of the Laurken house. We all piled out and headed to the front door. Harry leaned against the car behind and scrolled on his phone.

"Are we ready?" I let out a sharp exhale and stare at the door we use to bust into all the time. Ty pat us on the back and knocked on the door.

"I hope the fuck we are."

Silence. Just silence as we wait for an answer. Blake looked confused and knocked on the door this time.

"Are you sure you knocked with all your force man?" Ty starts laughing but Blake gives him a glare.

"I sure as hell did," he folded his arms and stepped back, "now shut up."

I roll my eyes from the unnecessary bickering and I was just about to knock on the door but it slowly
opened.

I think my ear drums were shattered but the next thing I knew, the guys and I were being squished by the mothers after the heart stopping scream they let out.

"Well my oh my you boys have grown!" Grandma Ma, Parker's grandma, gushed pinching our cheeks. The smell of delicious food made my stomach grumble.

Carol gave Blake a huge hug. "Look at you!" Blake smiled genuinely and wiped a tear from his eye. They had a long hug before pulling away. Carol looks just like Cameron.

Linda, Sierra's mom, and Tanya, her aunt, gave us all a quick peck on the cheek and hugged us. "We missed you guys! It's been years," Tanya gasp at the height of Ty. "Boy I told you not to grow this much!"

Linda looks just like her.

We all laugh and everyone teased Ty for his height. He wasn't a giant but he is 6'2. Perfect height according to himself. Steph, Ty's dad's girlfriend, squealed when she saw us.

"Well goddamn you guys have gotten tall and attractive!" she hugged us all and walked back to Ma to help her with fruit. We took a step inside and the familiar feel of warm air made me shiver. The guys went to grab a piece to eat while I looked around. On the side of the wall was Sierra and her little six year old sister Leah's school photo. Sierra looks much older from last time.

Her jawline is perfectly structured, her beautiful hazel eyes shining brightly, her nose just a tad pink, the brown and light brown highlights in her hair was present, and her smile was so big it made me grin a little. The soft plump lips on her. The glint in her eyes showing joy. She looks happy.

The next picture was Sierra in her position ready to receive a ball that was right at her. She looks focused, determined, and to be honest, scary. Hot?

Shut up.

"She looks happy doesn't she?" Linda whispers next to me. I turn and give her a small smile in agreement.

"She does."

"Come sit at the table," she grabs my hand and leads me to the big table where everyone was sitting at.

"Let me get the girls."

I sat down next to Blake and an empty chair. I gave him a look and he knew giving my shoulder a pat. I guess sitting next to her was the plan.

What if she hates me? What if she just screams at me? I don't wanna ruin our friendship anymore, or do we even have one right now?

I hear a few footsteps coming near and my eyes quickly looked up to find that pair of eyes I've been looking for.

Just like that, it was like magic. Her eyes were already focused on mine. She looked incredible and my eyes were in awe and shock. Her hair was curled at the ends and her blue sun dress with white flowers dotted around had her curves shown. I felt definite butterflies and nervousness around her.

But her?

Her eyes were definitely filled with sadness and anger. She looks tense and full of questions.

I can also see Cameron and Parker starring behind me at Ty and Blake with tense bodies and an unsure look.

The gang's back right? Not really I would say. Drama can happen, shit can be broken.

Let's hope it doesn't get messy.
