Kaydon

"I hate your girlfriend," Blake grumbles while hopping in the backseat of my car. I rolled my eyes and started driving. Ty snorts and gives him a high five.

"That makes the two of us."

The two idiots laugh and giggle like seven year olds and I just flip them off. Okay, maybe my girlfriend can be easily hated but I do like her. Yes, I said like and not love. I'm not the type to rush and say I love you. The three most dreaded words I despise. All thanks to my fucking parents. Plus, my girlfriend and I started dating a month before school started up again.

Yeah, yeah I get it. I'm all for the name calling of having daddy issues and mommy issues. I don't give a shit.

My parents? Gone. Yeah, on their own back in our hometown in Tampa probably on some damn business trip. As usual, not even having a care in the world. I'm like a good half an hour away from where the guys and I used to live. Basically, Ty, Blake, and I live with Blake's dad Harry. Blake's mom Carol lives back in the hometown. With them.

No names, just them. We don't even say Blake's sister's name. It's just this unspoken rule for now.

"Why are we going to this stupid game again?" Blake whines and I gladly snap out of my thoughts and focus back on the road. Ty just shakes his head and looks at me with the most mischievous glint in his eyes.

Please don't say it, I beg him with my eyes.

"Because this guy got promised sex-"

I slap my hand on his mouth and muffled his words. That is in fact totally not true. Blake cackles so loudly in the back and I give a glare to Ty. I grip harder on the steering wheel and turn into the Elwood parking lot.

"We're going so I can be a supportive boyfriend to my girlfriend," I grumble looking for a parking spot. "I like her a lot to do so."

Ty gives me a weird look but I shake it off. As I park and turn off the engine, Ty just sits there. His dark eyes in deep thought as his eyes were on some of the opponents.

"Man, you coming?" I ask him. He darts his eyes back to mine and unbuckles.

"Yeah, I just gotta-"

Blake comes running back to us waving money in his hand. "They got corn dogs bro!"

"Again, I hate your girlfriend," Blake takes a bite out of his corn dog, "but I love the food at her games." He gladly eats four of his corn dogs while Ty sips on his coke and I hold my unopened water bottle. After a week of practices for her, I hadn't seen her much. We get called the golden couple. No one expects a football captain and the volleyball captain to get together.

Surprise.

"Man, how I love volleyball." Blake mumbles staring at the girls. They were passing and hitting and I clearly see his eyes on the spandex. I slap him on the back of his head. Fucking weirdo.

"I swear if you're staring at my girlfriend's ass-"

Ty nudges me and I see our team coming out from the huddle they just got in from. They were all cheering and the whole side of our guests cheered. On the other side was Ferraview River High school. The Red Hawks.

The guys and I used to go there for elementary school, until we left.

Yeah, it's pretty unclear why and how we left but that's being saved for later. For someone.

I see my girlfriend in her beautiful spandex and jersey. Number 9, Holiday. She was talking to Blake's ex. Ah, of course, Gigi Fenwood. Star right side hitter. Was that the right position?

"Look, Sarahs talking to Gigi." Ty pointed to them in the corner. I see Sarah looking at the bleachers and when her eyes landed on me, she blew a kiss.

Blake groans and hides his face. "I might puke." I turn to glare at him.

Ty snorts. "From Gigi or Sarah and Kaydon being a couple?" he teases. I shove my ice cold water into his side and he rubs the part that was cold.

Dick.

"I'm going to get Skittles," Ty announces. Blake and I stand up to give him room to move. After he moved I turned my focus back on the court. I see both teams warming up and the glares they sent. Harsh glares may I add.

Goddamn the tension in here is intense. They're rivals what can I say? Each hit gets harder after one another and the guests can feel it too. It's the first game for both schools of the season, and it's against their enemy.

I heard for the whistle and it was time for the coin toss. Sarah and Gigi head to the refs while I hear shouting for the captain for Ferraview. I couldn't hear the names well because Blake kept on rambling about his fucking corn dog.

I couldn't focus but I did see both the numbers, I think for Ferraview. 25 and 4? I couldn't tell. Plus, Blake.

"Like what batter do they use? Does it have crack or-"

I grab one of his corn dog and ripped it off the stick. "I do not fucking care about your corn dog." I grumble. He gasps dramatically and bites into another one from his pocket. My eyes furrow in confusion but he just sets his eyes back on to the court with a sly smile.

Ty comes back and he looks tense. "Ty you good buddy?" he shakes his head and started looking extra nervous.

"Did you guys here the captain and the libero's last names when their coach yelled for them?" he asked while sitting down. Blake and I shook our heads. I was still squishing the corn dog.

"Sanchez and Laurken." Ty breathed out.

The corn dog fell out of my hand and Blake dropped all of his with crumbs on his lips with his full mouth gaped open.

No.

My eyes scanned the Ferraview side for three familiar looking best friends wearing the iconic numbers they always claimed in club volleyball. I searched and searched until I see the one familiar looking dark haired girl staring straight at me and then choking on her water.

It can't be. She looks-

"Holy shit," Blake whispers. I see the guys also stare in shock. Her eyes were still on mine and the two beside her stare at us in shock too.

Is the universe playing tricks? What the hell?

The whistle blew and the three girls had to huddle up with their team once again. My eyes, still on her, were glued on to her figure. The small little girl when we were seven was gone. The small little crazy blondie was gone. The small short latino was gone.

Replaced was three strong seniors that we used to hang out with. Three tall women. One was now tall, a right side hitter, and captain, the other was a tall graceful setter, and the last one was a beautiful libero. Where did the time go?

"They're here?" Ty mumbled staring at us two. I gulp nervously and stare at the score board. 0-0, ladies and gentlemen. The time starting up with everything in place. Line judges with their flags, the referee doing final talks with coaches, the players gathering up together for one more huddle, and the green and white volleyball on the ground still.

Yes, they're here. They're here and they look better than ever, ready to kick ass.
