"Girls, come on! Hustle!" our coach kept on shouting at us to board the bus. Bags were everywhere, someone was at least getting whacked with a nasty kneepad, and someone else was scrambling to get something they forgot.

"Has it been this chaotic every year to board our first game?" Cameron huffs sitting down in front of me with her loaded purple duffel bag. I pushed my heavy black one down on the floor of the bus and wiped the sweat from my forehead.

"Yes. Yes it has."

Cameron snorts and started scrolling on her phone. Just as I was about to relax, our coach ran up to us and glared at us. We both looked confused and just as I was about to ask what she needed, she said,

"Where's Parker?"

Cameron and I looked at each other with pure fear as we both scrambled out of the bus and dashing into the school. It was still around 2, so there weren't anybody around that we could run into while doing a high speed race around school.

"Are you kidding me!" Cameron shouts while running looking around every corner as we run to the gym. This literally happens every year. Parker either goes in the bathroom to get drunk, sobbing on a phone call, or she's sleeping. "Every damn year," I sigh.

The gym door was right in front of us and we busted through it. It was all clear. The net on the ground in its box, the poles still up, the volleyballs all neatly lined up on the sides.

I opened the door to the equipment room and Cameron started yelling for Parker. We had exactly 5 minutes to find her or we're dead meat. Dead meat as in champions across the court 50 times.

Cameron ran out and to the bathrooms near the gym. I kept looking around the bleachers and behind the trash cans. How can she be so loud yet so hard to find?

Parker usually hides before our first away games just to piss off our assistant coach. Little does she know Cameron and I also get yelled at. Fun.

"No, get off of me!" I hear a voice shout from the bathrooms. I opened the door and see Parker being dragged out by the foot and Cameron looking red as a tomato. I grabbed her arm and yanked her up. She was wearing her dark red and yellow number 5 jersey with her spandex and her white kneepads. She folded her arms and stared at us both.

"What the hell, Parker? We have to leave in exactly 3 minutes!" Cameron furiously shook her head and smoothed out her jersey. "Let's go before Coach Jones yells at us."

Parker stared at us and Cameron and I sighed. Parker is stubborn. The most stubborn player ever even though she's our captain. If the ref calls a bad call, she gets annoyed and starts yelling but then she gets ended up being subbed out for a match.

She does defend us though. In her words, 'her latino genes' are always ready to bust someone's lip if anyone tried to fight us after a game. I always said that it's never necessary but keep it on hand.

"I don't wanna go," she leans against the wall with her hands covering her face. Her hair sticking to the side of her face as the ponytail swings around again as she looks at us. "What if they're there?"

Cameron grabbed her hands and then mine. She gave us all a soft expression and kissed us both on the knuckles.

"I doubt it."

After a few silent moments, I clapped my hands together after giving them hugs. "Alright," I put an arm around them both and started walking out the doors. "Let's do this!"

We walked in through those big gym doors and the smell of sweat just went in my nostrils. Our coaches went to the chairs and our team set our bags down and got to work on warm ups.

Elwood High. Otherwise known as, The Tigers. This high school is our biggest rival. We usually play them every season once or twice. Both teams are highly competitive, and it's not just volleyball. Football, hockey, you name it. Every single person on our team today has daggers shooting to the other players on the other side. Last year, every middle blocker on our team were giving nasty looks to the other middle blockers who talked shit about them. The year before that, everyone on the teams were slamming balls on the other side with full strength.

Told you, we're competitive.

The gym seats were getting full as people were chatting around, buying snacks, or just watching us warm up. I see students from our school, students from here, and more. I sure hope they aren't here.

You'll find out who they are. I really hope not though.

"Sanchez, Laurken!" our coach yelled at us from across the court. "Toss!"

Parker and I ran over and greeted the referees. Parker, as always, gives a fake little smile and pat on the shoulder. She knows damn well she's gonna argue with them at some point during this game.

"Oh, please not you sucking up to them." I hear a girl in front of us scoff and the girl next to her laughing quietly. I raise an eyebrow but Parker quickly turned her head and grinned ever so sweetly.

"Well I don't know what you're talking about?" she says innocently. I almost laugh from the terrible acting she's doing but our coach tapped me on the shoulder to get Parker back into the game. As the ref started stating the obvious things for the toss, I kept on staring at the girl in front of Parker. Not out in the obvious, of course but sneakily.

Oh, it's these girls.

Her jersey was a dark green like her school and had the number 9. The other girl had the same color but a number 25. I only know their last names, Holiday and Fenwood. Their literally the two preppiest girls ever.

"Call it!" I hear the ref say that snatched me out of my thoughts. I hear Parker call for heads and as the coin falls back on to the ref's hand, it was shown as heads. We get the ball first.

"Alright, good luck you guys." the ref turns around and we shake hands.

"Break a leg," number 9 says to me with a grim look. Then they both walked away back to their team giving ours a death glare.

Parker lets out a breath and starts tying her hair. "I so wanna rip their pretty little faces off." she grumbles. I snorted and started walking back to our team. Everyone had their red and yellow jerseys, except for me since I'm the libero. I get a white and red one with tiny little yellow accents.

Our coach started telling us our lineup and we all shook out our hands and feet. I sat down next to Cameron and Parker as I took a drink of my water. As I did, Cameron and Parker were in a conversation but my eyes were going over the seats in front of us. Three particular people had my eyes stop on them and I nearly choke as I cough on my water.

Are you fucking kidding me.

"Sierra!" Cameron pats my back and some teammates stared at me in concern. I give them a nod to say I'm okay and everyone went back to their own business. "You okay?" Parker asks. The two girls look over me as I still kept my gaze on them. The three people eventually turned and I see their mouths slightly part.

I shook my head and kept on staring at the three people. Three guys to be exact. The two of them follow my vision and I hear Cameron take a sharp breath and I feel Parker grabbing onto my hand with her shaky one.

"No way," Cameron whispers.

Parker puts her head in between her hands and starts muttering curse words under her breath.

That can't be them right?

Wrong. I know those numbers on a football jacket anywhere. No one would have a different number with the name 'Murphy' written on the sleeve and the other two with 'Shruder' and 'Davis.' Number 24, 19, and 48.

It was definitely them, just older. The most fun part? They're staring at us three at this very exact moment and they're walking down the seats.

Fuck.
