ACT III | SCENE XIII

BREAKFAST GUESTS

MEWLING WAS THE first thing jangmi heard when she woke up. her eyes fluttered open to rosalie in her arms who had the white kitten in her embrace. smiling, she lifted the kitten off her hands, patting it as she got out of bed.

"we've got to get you food, bowls, a bed and a name." she mumbled, pulling the covers higher over rosalie. quietly, she padded out of the room and into the kitchen. bending over, she let the kitten go. "i think i have some tuna here somewhere." she muttered to herself, pulling open one of the cabinets in search of the can. "ah, yeah." she pulled it out. "god, i hope you don't pee on my floor."

she stared at the white fluff as she pawed at the floor lazily. she peeled back the lid and dumped the contents into a misshapen ceramic bowl that her friend had made for at her pottery class. "forgive me, brigitte." she placed the bowl in front of the cat and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and take a quick shower.

when she returned, the kitten had wiped the bowl clean. "wow you must have been hungry." she remarked, picking her up. "mummy?" jangmi whirled around to see rosalie running her eyes. "bonjour." the girl mumbled. "bonjour, rosie." she smiled. "bonjour, blanche." the small girl chirped. jangmi's right brow rose at that. "blanche?" she repeated. "that's her name." rosalie pointed at the fluff in her mother's arms.

chuckling, she shook her head slightly. "i see." she handed the cat to the small girl. "i'm making crêpes for breakfast." she announced. "yay!" rosalie cheered. she played with blanche while she watched her mother make breakfast. jangmi was turning the last of the crêpes into the plate when the doorbell rang.

her gaze shot in the direction of the door as she wondered who could be visiting so early. she wiped her hands as rosalie went for the door. leaning up, the girl pushed down on the handle just before jangmi got to the door. "who is it?"

"it's a man." rosalie answered as her mother stopped behind her, taking her hand. "taehyung?" jangmi gasped. "jangmi!" the man beamed holding out his arms. she moved in closer and hugged him. "and this must be rosalie!" he chimed looking down at the girl. "i'm your uncle tae!" he cooed, waving. rosalie smiled at the upbeat man, holding out her arms. she liked him and his odd smile already.

"taehyung, how did you find this place?" jangmi asked as he lifted the girl up into his arms. "that would be my fault." jimin appeared then. "papa!" rosalie reached for her father. "ah, of course." jangmi drawled out, moving aside and pulling the door wider to let them in. she picked blanche up before she could wobble out the door and shut the door.

"sorry we're by so early. taehyung wouldn't stop nagging." jimin apologised. "hey! i ju... what is that amazing smell?" taehyung sniffed. "mummy made crêpes!" rosalie answered from her place in her father's arms. "is there enough for me?" taehyung turned to jangmi. "yes, i always make extra in case hoseok comes around." she smiled. thanks to hoseok's irregular visits, she was always ready for breakfast guests. taehyung took her arm as she led them to the kitchen.

taehyung helped her move everything to the small dining room. they all sat as jangmi let go of blanche again, allowing her to explore the house.

"do you have things to do today?" taehyung asked as he spread chocolate syrup over his crêpes. "yeah, i need to go shopping for pet supplies." her gaze wandered to the ball of fluff that was already napping in the living room. "jimin and i can go." taehyung offered. jimin's head lifted and his eyes moved from a munching rosalie to his friend and ex girlfriend. "we could take rosalie. you could take a nap or something. you look a bit tired."

"do i?" the question was laced with concern. "i didn't get much sleep last night." she added silently. "mummy asked me to sleep with her because i'm her teddy when she has bad dreams." jimin's gaze flew to jangmi, a part of him wondering if she was unable to sleep as a result of last night's events. guilt clawed at his chest again. he felt like it was his fault she had had to endure all those insults from his mother.

"and you are. because of you, mummy's night went better." she grinned at her daughter. rosalie beamed brightly, pride and happiness oozing from her form. "yeah, i don't mind if you take her for the day as long as you bring her back on time and in one piece."

"we will." it was jimin who spoke. he hadn't said much after the apology besides whispered words to rosalie. "good." she gave a brief nod, sending a smile taehyung's way.

"do you hear that, rosalie?" taehyung leaned toward the girl. "you're hanging out with daddy and uncle tae today!" he chimed out. rosalie clapped, the twinkle of happiness in her eyes at the thought of spending the whole day with her father matching taehyung's. "thank you, jangmi." jimin gave her a small smile. she nodded in reply. "don't give her too much sweet stuff. she gets really hyper on a sugar rush and it's ten times harder to get her in bed."

"of course, we won't. right, tae?" jimin pinned his friend with an accusing stare. "i haven't even done anything! but yeah, we'll keep the sugar on a minimum." taehyung pouted.

jangmi smiled slightly, gaze lingering on the girl who was happily eating crêpes as she talked animatedly with her father, legs swinging underneath the table. she was obviously more than excited to spend the day with him. and jangmi was fine with that.
