ACT XX | SCENE XCVII

WISH

THE FLAMES ILLUMINATED jimin's face with a golden glow as he lit the candles. smiling in satisfaction, he made his way to the bedroom quietly, shutting the door behind him carefully.

jangmi was tucked in bed, back to him. only her hair was visible, spread over the bed in messy brown waves. she looked so tiny. she moved only slightly, tucking her knees and making herself even smaller. a groggy groan could be heard as she began to wake up.

taking soft steps towards her, he began to sing. "happy birthday to you. happy birthday to you." his voice was soft and somewhat low as he approached the bed.

jangmi's eyes fluttered open at the sound of his voice, going wide. she listened for a moment without making a sound, a small smile on her face. "i know you're up, my love." he sang out. she turned around with sleepy eyes that fluttered repeatedly in an effort to blink sleep away.

"hey, birthday girl." he beamed, waiting for her to sit up. "when did you get here?" she asked groggily, rubbing at her eyes. the side of the bed dipped with his weight. "a while ago. happy birthday," he whispered, holding out the cake to her. "make a wish."

smiling, she shut her eyes. his brow went up when instead of blowing out the candles, she began to suck in air. "what are you doing?" he frowned. she cupped a hand over her mouth. "i just woke up. i'm not about to blow my morning breath into the atmosphere and over the cake." she responded. "and your big idea is to suck the flames out?" his brow moved even higher in incredulity, expression one of amusement.

"i woke up less than a minute ago, my brain is still rebooting, okay?" she replied defensively. his lips pressed together as he tried to bite back the smile that threatened to curve his mouth up. "i've woken up next to you countless times, mimi, your morning breath isn't that bad. either that or i've grown immune to it."

"shut up. i haven't grown immune to yours." she scowled at him. he laughed at her expression. "stop hurting my feelings and blow them out." he told her. smiling sweetly, she did as he said. "good," he leaned over and kissed her forehead. "happy birthday, my queen." he whispered. "get dressed. i have something special planned."

"and what's that?" she queried, tilting her head to the side. "you'll see." he chirped, getting on his feet with a cheeky grin. "oh c'mon, tell me!" she called after him. he lifted a hand in a short wave as he walked away from her. "you'll see!"

rosalie kissed her mother's cheeks again before allowing namjoon lift her into his arms. "happy birthday, mummy! i love you!" she beamed. "i love you too, my angel." she kissed her daughter's forehead. "please take care of her and don't give her too much sweets." she looked at the dimpled man.

"of course." namjoon smiled softly. "hoseok's going to be with me, so he'll help me with her." he assured. "if you need anything, don't hesitate to call. thank you! bye rosie!" she called out, allowing jimin to gently push her towards the car. pausing as he went round to the driver's side, jimin pressed a kiss to rosalie's temple. "papa loves you." he whispered. "i love papa."

getting into the car, he smiled at the woman sat next to him. "you look beautiful." he remarked, taking in the pastel blue bardot mini dress she wore. short and loose with long puffy sheer sleeves cinched at the wrists, it was a cute and playful look.

"thank you." she smiled softly. "now stop staring at my thighs and drive." a smirk slowly curved her lips. laughing, he reached out to squeeze her thigh. she smacked his hand away but he caught the smile on her face.

jimin could sense the smile on jangmi's face even though he couldn't see it. he ran his fingers through her hair, watching the sunset with her. they sat on a soft blanket up on a cliff. pressing a kiss to her bare shoulder, he nuzzled her neck.

"did you like the food?" he whispered. "yes, i still think you're lying about cooking it though." she answered with a teasing smile. "i did! jin hyung put me through." he whined, pouting slightly. a melodic laugh left her lips. his lips pressed to her jaw softly, moving up under her ear.

her eyes fluttered shut at the contact, a small smile on her face. "thanks for taking me to see my parents." she mumbled softly. "thank you for letting me be the shoulder you can cry on." his lips moved down, smiling against her skin when he heard her breath hitch just the slightest bit. he pressed the soft plump flesh to the base of her neck and then her collarbone.

"i have a gift for you." he whispered against her neck, his breath tickling her skin. "what might that be?" her voice was playful, head tilting down to get a glimpse of him. detaching his lips from her neck, his eyes crinkled into crescents of happiness, gaze meeting hers.

he turned around, reaching into the wicker basket that once held their meal. he pulled out a small box wrapped in red wrapping paper. beaming like an excited child, he held it out to her.

lips curving upward at the endearing expression on his face, jangmi took the box out of his hands. she carefully took apart the wrapping paper, taking the lid off slowly. the smile she wore grew into a wide grin. laughter erupted from her belly as she reached in and carefully brought out the contents of the box.

"i told you i could make one just as good as yours." he whispered smugly, a proud grin on his face. "so you really kept that in mind all this while." her eyes raked over the quaint little popsicle house sitting on her palms. "mhm," his head bobbed in a nod. "check inside." he nudged his chin.

slipping a finger into the tiny door, she felt something cool. she hooked her finger around it, pulling it out. her eyes widened, gasp leaving her lips. a silver bracelet dangled from her finger. "jimin," her surprised gaze met his. he smiled shyly. "is this—?" she didn't finish the question, carefully placing the popsicle house back in the box.

"not exactly. that's a copy." he reached into the pocket of his ripped jeans. "this is the same bracelet." he held up a silver bracelet identical to the one she had in her palm.

quietly, he took it from her open palm. gently taking her hand, he unclasped the bracelet and wrapped it around her wrist. clasping it back in place, he smiled and slipped his on as well.

her eyes shifted from the jewellery to his eyes. "i can't believe you kept that for six years." her voice was barely audible. she gingerly reached for it, drawing back at the last minute. almost as though it was emitting an unbearable heat.

"well, actually, i kind of tossed it in anger when i found out you were gone. when i woke up in the morning, i panicked and went searching for it in the trash but i couldn't find it. i went back to my room to find it on my bedside table. bora put it there. i've had it since then." he confessed, cheeks flushing, reminding jangmi of fresh peaches.

knowing how he would react, she remained quiet for a long minute, just staring at him. his features morphed into worry, bottom lip jutting out just the tiniest bit. "are you mad?" he asked softly. no response, only a blank stare. "jangmi, i'm sorry. i was really frustrated and angry and you know i don't think straight when i'm mad. i went back for—"

he was cut off by her amused laughter, ringing from melodic to devious. he frowned, realising she had only been teasing him. "that's not funny, mimi." he whined.

she didn't stop laughing, not deterred by the annoyed look on his face. she reached over, throwing her arms around his neck. he fell backwards, back hitting the warm blanket with a soft thud accompanied by a grunt.

peppering kisses all over his still slightly reddened face, she continued to giggle. "you're so cute, jimbub." she chuckled before pressing a kiss to his lips. before she could completely pull away, he leaned up, recapturing her lips with his.

her eyes fluttered shut, lips moving slowly against his. warm, sweet and woodsy like the red wine they had been drinking earlier. in one smooth move, he flipped them over, now hovering over her. he kissed her slow and sweet, with a hint of desperation. his fingers trailed over her body, teasing lightly. her hands raked through his hair, mussing it up.

he pulled away, eyes opening slowly to stare at her dazed expression. both their chests heaving with heavy breaths. a satisfied smile found its way to his face. "i have a surprise for you." he whispered when she finally looked back up at him. he watched as confusion danced across her face. "there's more?"

jimin chuckled softly, pushing himself up. "c'mon," he held out a hand to her. a warm smile graced her lips as she placed her small hand in his warm one. packing up quickly, they hurried to the car, giggling like they were teenagers again.
