ACT XVII | SCENE LXXXIV

DNA

BORA'S HEELS CLACKED against the marble surface of the gallery floor as she walked through the hallways. stopping at one of the exhibition rooms, she spun around to fix jimin with a glare. "i'm serious, jimin. if the two of you don't fix your problems, neither of you are welcome at my wedding. i don't want a family who are ignoring each other to spread their negative energy on a day that's supposed to be one of the happiest of my life." she looked away, flipping a page on her clipboard and scribbling in it.

jimin's jaw slackened, eyes staring at her in shock. "so you're uninviting me from your wedding?" the words came out slowly, fully expressing his shock. "you, dad and mum can't come to my wedding until you wave away this black cloud you've hung over our family. nobody's happy and i hate it so much. you think it's easy for me to deal with everything?"

flipping the page back, she turned to him again. "dad barely says a word to mum. she just locks herself in that goddamn flower room tending to her plants and crying or talking to herself. she eats like a freaking bird and will turn herself to skin and bones if she keeps it up. you moved out and haven't come home in weeks and work yourself from morning to night in that stupid office." she took a deep breath, eyes glossing over with tears.

"i'm the only one who tries to talk to her in our family. i feel like i'm the singular band tying everyone together being stretched thin. and i cannot deal with having to handle all that at my wedding. why do you all only think of yourselves? everyone in this family just acts on how they feel and don't consider how it makes the rest of us feel. you always have to get your way by any means necessary. why do i always have to play the peacemaking glue?" she placed a hand on her chest.

"it's always one thing or the other and i'm tired of everyone being immature and selfish. so just this once, i'm going to be selfish. none of you can come to my wedding until you stop fighting because i do not want you tainting my happiness on my special day."

she looked away again, flipping the page open aggressively, walking away from him towards a large waterscape painting.

jimin stared after her, unable to render a single thought in his head as the full weight of her words registered in his mind. he blinked furiously as she got further away. "noona, wait!" he called after her, feet moving quickly towards her.

"i have nothing more to say to you, jimin." she stated, scribbling in her notes. jimin sighed heavily, hands slipping into his pockets. "look, noona, i'm sorry i didn't realise everything that's happened was taking its toll on you. i'm sorry you always get caught in the middle whenever there's a family problem. but it's hard for me to get past what mum did."

"which part? that she took rosalie or the reason why she took her?" she glanced up from her notes, eyes curious. his became larger, his surprise evident.

"mum told me everything a couple of days ago. i'm not going to tell you because i think you should hear the whole story from her. but you should know this; mum never went through with the dna test. right after she confessed to me, i checked with the hospital. the lab tech said he got word that the test shouldn't be run just as he got the samples. if you don't believe me, you can call doctor song at sj hospital."

jimin's lips parted in shock, his leg beginning its familiar twitching at the news, against his thigh, his fingers compulsively drummed a pattern his body was attuned to in his pocket. "what?" his voice was barely a whisper. "i hope that gives you enough incentive to talk to the woman who's been missing you for the past few weeks." she stated, walking away from him again.

"you can't just drop something like that and leave me hanging." he followed her again. "i can and i did." she made her way out into the hallways again. she stopped at the elevators, pushing a button for the top floor. he made it to her on time, stepping into the elevator after her. "i'm not saying anymore, jimin. go talk to her." bora folded her arms over her chest.

jimin sighed heavily, nodding his head. "i will. i will." he answered, dropping his head, hair flopping over his eyes. it felt strange. the idea of talking to his mother after all this while. but he was going to do it.
