ACT XII | SCENE LVII

HOBI WAN KENOBI

HOSEOK SMILED OVER at the cape verdean girl when he caught her staring in his direction. again. she flushed and turned away from him, making his lips curl up even more. in the close to two weeks he'd been here, the woman had spoken no more than twenty words to him – he'd actually counted – yet she always seemed to be looking his way whenever they were in the same vicinity. he remembered the bride referring to her as a cousin or something of the sort and her name was amalia.

she was cute and quiet, one of those speak when spoken to types. he'd found out she could speak six different languages – a fact which excited the polyglot in him – but so far she'd only spoken two in his presence. even without asking, he kept finding out things about her from everyone. it was odd really, the way a conversation would randomly steer towards her and he never knew when or how. he glanced down at his planner and, feeling her gaze on him once more, smiled to himself.

lifting his eyes up, he shook his head. "no, not there. a little to the left." he gestured, directing the men setting up the venue. he watched them lift the table and move it again. "that's better. thank you." he smiled graciously when they looked at him for approval. in his peripheral view, he saw her smiling softly. slowly, he began to turn, wanting to catch her again.

as soon as his gaze met hers, his phone rang, distracting him. he fished it out of his pocket, smiling when he saw the caller id. "i'll call you everyday, he said." jangmi's sardonic voice chimed the moment he answered. hoseok laughed into the receiver. "i'm sorry. i was busy." he apologised, eyes straying towards amalia. "but you always make time. have you been ogling some cape verdean chick, hm?" jangmi's tone was teasing.

"no..." he dragged out the word. she gasped audibly. "oh my god, you have!" she exclaimed. "i need to document this day in history." he heard shuffling on her end. "what are you doing?" his brows furrowed. "circling today's date on my calendar. 'first time hoseok shows interest in a woman since uni.'" she mumbled out the last bit like she was writing it out. he rolled his eyes. "do you have to be so dramatic?" he placed his book on one of the tables in front of him.

"um, fu— fudge yes!" she replied. he grinned, knowing rosalie was probably in the area, hence her word choice. "hobi wan kenobi had been hopelessly single for almost six years now. do i smell a long awaited divorce from your job to finally date human beings?" she chimed. groaning, he shut his eyes at the mention of the nickname she hadn't used in a long while. "i thought we agreed to let hobi wan kenobi die?" his hand came up to pinch the bridge of his nose. "no, you agreed to let it die, i didn't. i just allowed it to hibernate for a while." she answered, letting out a small grunt. "what are you doing now?" he shut the planner. they were almost done setting up.

"just finished a popsicle stick boat so i'm finding it a place in my home." she replied, a thud following her voice. "are you putting it on the roof? what the hell?" his free hand slipped into his pocket. she chuckled soft and low. "the top shelf." her soft footfalls could be heard as she walked towards the couch. "i forgot how small you are."

"i don't need you reminding me that i'm vertically challenged." she popped in a tone that told him she wasn't offended. he grinned playfully, eyeing amalia from across the room. she was chatting with a man hoseok had seen around before. a frown made a way to his face, a sigh escaping his lips. "you okay?" jangmi queried, concern in her voice. "yeah," he drawled out. "is it the girl? wait is this a one sided thing?" she prattled. "no, it's definitely not. but there's this guy." he watched the man brush his fingers up amalia's arm as she laughed at something he said and his eyes narrowed.

"who's that cockblock?" she muttered, sounding more annoyed than he currently felt which made one corner of his mouth to lift. "i don't know his name. i just see him around sometimes, mostly around amalia." hoseok replied.

"amalia, eh?" her tone was playful. "shut up." he mumbled, feeling warmth crawl up his neck to his cheeks. "cute." she commented with a giggle, almost as though she could sense he was blushing. "look, this is the first girl you've seemed to like in forever, so you better go for it. or i will show up in your dreams and dropkick you into the atlantic."

he guffawed, turning on his heel. "you can try, you tiny witch." he chirped, glancing up. "but i will." he added, eyes shifting in amalia's direction again. "good." jangmi huffed out. "and how's my little angel?" he changed subjects. "she literally just fell asleep. out like a light." he could almost hear the smile in her voice. "i wanted to talk to her." he pouted, running his fingers through his hair. "i'll tell her you send your greetings." she answered. "and that i love her." he reminded. "can't forget that."

"and i love you." he said sweetly. "i love you too." she sighed softly. "talk to you later?" he questioned. "yeah. get the girl, hobi wan kenobi." she piped and ended the call before he could say anything. shaking his head, he shoved the phone back into his pocket, eyes searching for amalia as he picked up the planner. the man was gone and she was considerably closer. "hey," she stopped in front of him. a dimpled smile found its way to his face. "hey."
