ACT I | SCENE III

CRAYON DRAWINGS

JIMIN'S GAZE SHOT to the girl in her arms and jangmi held her child closer to her reflexively. her daughter wrapped her arms around her neck in return, burying her face in the crook of her mother's neck.

jangmi stared intently at the man as he made his way to her. he looked the same but she could see that his looks had matured a bit. his vibrant dyed red hair was gone for one, replaced by a more understated black. his hands remained in his black slacks as he reached her. he still had that model air about him that she used to like.

"what are you doing here?" she asked, her voice low and cold. her eyes were devoid of emotion as she looked up at him. "are you a babysitter or something?" he ignored her question as his eyes moved to the little girl again.

"she's mine." she responded tightly and stepped around him to her front door. moving one hand off rosalie, she punched in the security code. a small beep let her know that the door was now open.

pushing down on the handle, she opened the door and let rosalie down. the girl immediately ran for her bedroom, most likely to get her crayon and papers to start on her new masterpiece for hoseok. "slow down, rosie! you don't want to get hurt!" her mother called out but it fell on deaf ears.

sighing, jangmi turned to shut the door behind her to find jimin standing on the other side. ignoring him, she began to close the door. his foot immediately shot in between the door and the jamb, preventing her from doing so.

her face scrunched together in a deep scowl and she tried to push it shut despite the presence of his foot. "move, mr park." she stated formally. "mr park?" his brows went up higher on his face.

letting out a breath, she straightened up and looked him in the face. "what do you want? i thought you said i should never show up in front of you. so why are you here?" she queried. jimin winced a little, remembering his words.

"and i also recall telling you i never wanted to see you again?" she added. jimin pursed his lips but didn't move his foot. "i think we need to talk." he stated and cleared his throat. "we have nothing to talk about."

jimin crossed his arms over his chest, taking an adamant stance. "you really aren't going to leave, are you?" her eyes raked over his stubborn form. he gave her a pointed look, head tilting a bit to the right.

a sigh of exasperation left her roseate lips which were pouted in annoyance. she opened the door wider. "half an hour." she said strictly, waiting for his nod of agreement before moving out of the way.

the first thing jimin noticed when he stepped in was the abundance of red objects. the second thing he noticed was that there were a lot of ice cream stick sculptures around the place. he recalled jangmi used to make them as a hobby.

the third thing he noted was that the walls were covered in framed crayon drawings, no doubt by her daughter. he moved closer to one and realised it was supposed to be a drawing of jangmi. squiggly lines formed a smiling woman with long brown hair and a mole below her nose. his lips curved up.

the subject of the kindergarten art cleared her throat behind him. he twisted around to look at her. there was no smile present on her face at the moment. her hand moved up and she gestured for him to move into the living room.

he followed her lead to find the small girl sitting at the coffee table, a cushion protecting her bum from the hard floor. she was engrossed in her drawing, pink tongue sticking out cutely. the concentration was clear on her face as she awkwardly ran crayon over paper.

jangmi sat on the couch behind her daughter, patting the girl's head when she passed. a small proud smile split her face as she looked at the girl. when she turned to him, the smile disappeared.

"so what is this unwelcome visit about?" she asked bluntly. she had always been like this. straight to the point and painfully honest. "i think you know." jimin's gaze shifted from her to the little girl.

jangmi pursed her lips and shifted in her seat as her gaze followed his. she had a feeling this would happen. she just hadn't expected him to find out about rosalie so soon. but here he was and she was so unprepared.
