I roll my eyes as I watch Lucas throw cushions and a duvet onto an air-mattress directly next to the sofa.

'You can go and sleep in your own room. I'm a big girl, I don't need you next to me.'

'Princess, do you really think I'd leave you alone when you are concussed?'

'I feel better now.'

He raises an eyebrow at me, 'Do you really?'

I laugh slightly, 'I actually do, I haven't been sick in nearly three hours and my vision is no longer blurry.'

'I'm still not risking it.'

'I also could have just slept in Scarlett's room?'

'She literally would sleep through a fire, if you need urgent help, you physically wouldn't be able to wake her up.'

I shrug, 'Okay, I admit. She is a pretty heavy sleeper.'

He pats the mattress proudly, 'Look, I've set it all up for you.'

'Thank you for all your hard work, would you like a gold star or a medal?'

He shoots me a boyish grin that makes my knees weak, 'A gold star, please.'

'Manners, as well? Aren't you behaving like a good boy?'

Lucas makes a face at me, 'Don't talk to me like I'm a dog.'

'Then don't look like one.'

'We both know, you don't think I look like a dog. I mean earlier, you were telling me that I could put my hands wherever I wanted too.'

I let out a groan as I bury my face into my hands, 'Please can we never speak of that again!'

'No can-do princess, it's permanently engraved into my brain.'

I send daggers in his direction as I settle myself down on the mattress, 'You are such a tool.'

'Thank you, I like to think it's one of my best qualities, either that or my really pretty eyes, I believe it was you who told me that. I could be mistaken though.'

I clench my jaw, 'Shut the fuck up.'

He places a hand to his chest, 'Is that anyway to speak to the guy who saved your ass tonight?'

I scoff loudly, 'You barely saved my ass. You forced me to go to the emergency department, when I didn't even need to go!'

'Luckily, you didn't!'

'I admit it's quite cute how worried you were.'

His hazel eyes roll, 'Only because Scarlett would physically castrate me if I let anything happen to you.'

'Yeah sure, that was the only reason.'

'How's your pain?'

'It's settled down a-lot, the pain killers really worked.'

He nods with a small smile on his face before he gets himself comfortable on the sofa, 'You know, I actually feel quite relieved that Sophia broke up with me.'

I prop myself up onto my elbows, 'Really? You seemed crazy about her.'

He shrugs, 'I think I just liked the idea of her, not actually her.'

'I'm surprised at that.'

'Plus, I missed being able to hang out with you, like this.'

My heart swells as my stomach simultaneously flutters, 'You missed me? It was only two weeks, be careful I'm starting to think you're in love with me.'

I duck as he throws a pillow at my head, 'Princess, trust me. You'd know if I was in love with you.'

'Really? How would I know?'

'I'd show up outside your house with a boom-box playing your favourite song.' He sarcastically drawls out.

I roll my eyes, 'You are such a dick.'

'So, you've heard all about my type. And I've barely heard anything about yours.'

My cheeks burn slightly, 'Well, what do you want to know?'

'Anything.'

I fiddle with the edge of my duvet, 'I-I like someone who can really make me laugh.'

'So, you want a clown?'

I laugh quietly, 'No, not a clown. I just think that when you are in a relationship, you should be best friends first, have that foundation of friendship first.'

He blinks slowly before his eyes bore into mine, 'Yeah, I get that.'

'Luke?'

'Yeah.'

'W-Would you lie with me for a little bit?'

He sits up straight, 'W-What?'

'I just...I don't have my sleeping tablets with me, and I'd feel safer if you'd lie with me until I fell asleep.'

His eyebrows furrow together, 'Do you want me to go and get them for you? I really don't mind.'

I shake my head as a soft smile graces my lips, 'No, it's nearly three in the morning. You need sleep.'

'Are you sure you'll be comfortable with me lying with you?'

I shrug, 'I asked, didn't I?'

My heart races when I notice a sprinkle of pink grow across his cheeks, my breath hitches as he slowly climbs onto the mattress. His body inches away from me, my chest aches slightly when I realise, he's still trying his best to maintain a comfortable distance between us.

'I'll be honest princess, when I pictured this night, I didn't picture it ending with you asking me to get into bed with you.'

I roll my eyes, 'Don't get any funny ideas.'

'I wouldn't dream of it.'

And I truly believe him, I've never met a more respectable boy in my entire life. And part of me hated him for that, it was only causing my feelings to grow stronger.

I feel my entire body go fuzzy when he turns onto his side, so we are face to face. I can't help but be intoxicated by how truly handsome he looks. My heart pounds uncomfortably against my chest, as one of my trembling hands hesitantly reaches out to try and find his. His expression softens as his hand softly covers mine, I give him a small smile before I intwine our fingers together.

I didn't feel tense or disgusted or terrified by the contact.

I felt safe.

'Princess?'

'Hmm.'

'Thank you for letting me take you to the emergency room.'

'Thank you for caring.'

Butterflies dance around my stomach as I feel his hand squeeze mine, I bit my lip down to try and stop the grin that is threatening to form on my lips.

'Do you want to hear an interesting fact?'

'Go for it.' I murmur tiredly.

'Did you know that the words smallest mammal is a bumblebee-bat?'

I chuckle softly, 'A bumblebee-bat?'

'Yeah, they weigh less than two grams! How crazy is that?'

'Where did you learn this interesting fact?'

'Toby got me fact of the day toilet-paper.'

I yawn loudly, 'That's pretty cool.'

'You look exhausted.'

I roll my eyes, 'Wow, thank you.'

'You're still pretty when you are tired, don't worry'

My heart freezes for a second, 'Shut up.'

'You know it's my birthday next week, right?'

'Of course, I do. I'm very good at remembering birthdays.'

He gives me a bright smile, 'So, what are you getting me?'

I snort, 'My friendship should be the only gift you need.'

He pulls a face, 'Are you seriously not getting me a gift?'

I can't help but laugh at his expression, 'You'll get a gift, don't worry.'

'I already know, what you can get me.'

'Go on.'

'A date.'

'With whom?'

'You.'

I sit up as I feel my heart begin to pound that loudly, I'm afraid he can hear it, 'W-What?'

My mood deflates when he bursts out laughing, 'I-I'm joking, don't worry. Oh my god, you should have seen the look on your face!'

I narrow my eyes. 'That's not funny!'

'Why did you actually want to go on a date with me?'

Yes.

'N-No.'

My stomach churns when he begins to play with our intwined fingers, 'Don't worry princess, if we ever go on a date, I'll make sure to ask you in a better way than that.'

Holy fuck.

I don't think my heart can take all of these emotions and mixed signals. I literally feel like I'm going to have a stroke.

'Keep dreaming, there is no way, I would ever agree to go on a date with you.'

'We will have to wait and see.'

'W-Wait, what?'

Lucas closes his eyes as a smirk tugs on his lips, 'Goodnight princess.'

I clench my jaw, 'Goodnight, you piece of shit.'
