I put my EarPods in as I type furiously at my laptop perched on the corner table of my favourite local coffee shop. My eyebrows furrow together as I try and find the right article to make my essay have that little extra edge.

I just really wanted to ace this assignment; English was my favourite subject. And I'd be fucking dammed if I let my grades slip, I let him take everything else from me, I won't let him take my passion.

All I've ever wanted since the day I turned fourteen was to become a journalist. I wanted to be able to use my voice to help others who couldn't use their own. I wanted to be able to share news that shocked people to their core, to make people ponder about what they read for the rest of the day.

I adjust my reading glasses before taking a sip of my iced-coffee, I didn't care how cold the temperature was, my coffee will be iced always.

My head snaps up as I feel someone hovering around me, I wrinkle my nose slightly when I see a strawberry haired boy stood over me with a mug in his hand.

'Mind if I sit?'

Before I can even reply, he pulls out a chair and sits directly in-front of me. My chest feels as if it's becoming suffocated as my palms begin to become sweaty. I quickly glance around the room, luckily it was busy enough for people to notice if he ended up trying something inappropriate with me. I bounce my knee frantically as his eyes try to bore into mine, I avoid his gaze and begin typing again.

'So beautiful, what's your name?'

'I don't give my name out to strangers.' I mutter as I try and act busier than I was.

'I'm Jared, there you go I'm not a stranger anymore.'

I snort, 'I still don't know who you are.'

'Come on, help a guy out. It's not everyday he gets to sit across from a literal angel.'

I almost cringe at the desperation in his voice, 'I-I'm just really trying to get this assignment done.'

'And I'm just really trying to get to know you.'

I freeze slightly as his hand reaches forward to try and shut my laptop lid, my eyes narrow as I force it back open.

'It's rude to touch other people's things without permission.'

Jared rolls his eyes, 'It's rude not to tell someone your name.'

'It's called privacy, try it sometime.'

His jaw clenches before unclenching, 'Y-You are a feisty, little thing aren't you?'

My stomach drops as his tone turns deeper, as if he was trying to appear more seductive. My hands start to tremble as I scan the room in-case I need to make an escape. My heart stops when a familiar mop of dark-brown hair walks into the shop. I desperately try and make his eyes meet mine but he's too distracted by his phone.

Fuck.

'Hey, look at me. You're sat with me so look at me.'

I glower at his harsh tone, 'Not by choice, you just invited yourself.'

'You should really watch your pretty little mouth.'

My entire body tenses as a wave of nausea washes over me, the trembling in my hands becomes increasingly worse. I blink back the tears that are threatening to form, I hated that he was having this effect on me.

'Hey love!' A familiar voice chirps, I finally let out the breath I didn't know I was holding.

'Finally.' I manage out, 'I was beginning to think you'd never make it!'

He raises his eyebrow before he pulls out a chair and places it next to me, 'I see you've made a friend.'

Jared narrows his eyes at Lucas, 'Who are you?'

'Better question is who the fuck are you?'

'I'm none of your business, I'm here to talk to her, not you.'

Lucas nods leaning back, a smirk tugging onto his face, 'Well, she has a name. And to answer your question, I'm her boyfriend.'

My eyes nearly bulge out of my head, but I quickly recover, I stifle my laughter at Jared's expression, he looked torn between crying or punching someone.

Jared turns to look at me, 'Are you fucking kidding me? You fucking bitch! Why didn't you tell me that you have a boyfriend?'

I flinch at the anger in his tone, cowering away slightly. Lucas with a murderous glint in his eyes stands up before grabbing the collar of the strawberry-blonde boy's t-shirt, pulling him up roughly.

'What the fuck did you just call her?'

'Uh...'

'Not so fucking tough now, are we? Do you like shouting at fucking girls? Does it make you feel like a fucking man?'

'N-No.'

'Apologise, then leave us the fuck alone.'

'S-Sorry.'

Lucas releases his grip before shoving the boy away roughly, I give him a small smile as he sits back down next to me.

'T-Thank you.'

He gives me a look, 'What did I tell you about thanking me for stupid shit?'

'It wasn't stupid! You helped me out!'

'And I'll always help you out.'

My stomach churns, my cheeks burning brightly. I turn my attention back to my laptop, so I can't meet his stare.

'So, what are you working on?'

'Uh, some essay for English.'

The dark-haired boy pulls a face, 'I couldn't think of doing anything worse.'

I flash him a cheeky smile, 'Good think you aren't the one doing it!'

He laughs slightly, 'You do seem to be in your element, to be fair. Is that what you want to do when you graduate, English?'

I perk up, nodding, 'Yeah, I want to be a journalist.'

A wide grin spreads across his face, 'That's so fucking cool. What sort of things do you want to write about?'

I falter slightly, I've never had any share this type of enthusiasm about my passions before, when I've told boyfriends about it in the past, they couldn't give less of a shit. They just changed the conversation.

'O-Oh, I mainly want to write about women's rights. I want to give women a safe platform.'

My heart comes to a halt as his grin becomes even larger, his entire face becoming even more beautiful. I almost can't catch my breath looking at him.

'That is so fucking amazing, you know that right? I can't wait to read them, one day.'

'Y-You want to read them?'

'Of course, I do, you wrote them.'

A fuzzy feeling spreads throughout my body, as I almost melt into a puddle at the sentiment behind his words.

'And of course, I support women's rights. It isn't all about you, princess.'

I raise an eyebrow as a smile creeps onto my face, 'What happened to love?'

'Oh, so you prefer the love?'

I shrug, 'Potentially, but I'd still rather you, use my name.'

'No, you wouldn't, don't lie.'

I roll my eyes, 'I'm not lying, jackass.'

'You look nice today, by the way.'

I look down at my outfit, I was wearing plain-black leggings with a baggy hoody over the top. I didn't look nice at all, I looked borderline homeless.

I take my glasses off before holding them out to him, 'Do you need these?'

He laughs loudly, 'No, I'm good. You keep them.'

'Can you do me a favour?'

Lucas groans loudly, 'Don't I do enough around here?'

'Can you go and get me a blueberry muffin?' I ask as I pass him my debit card.

'Put that away, I'll get it.'

'You can't keep buying everything!' I call out as he begins to walk away.

'Yes I can!'

This is just a filler chapter which is actually holds some importance.

Unfortunately, this filler means that there is a lot of shit going down in the next few chapters.

Lucas and Autumn: He fell first but she fell harder, or she fell first, and he fell harder?
