It's not easy being a thief. You just don't get the same level of respect as fighters or clerics or those goody two shoes paladins. Heck, even wizards are held in higher regard. Stupid wizards with their stupid magic. Nobody trusts a thief for some reason. But really, what's a little petty larceny among friends? Thieves are supposed to steal stuff. It's part of the job description, for crying out loud. And you're definitely going to want a thief on your side when it comes to disarming a trap or needing to sneak up on some monsters or something without attracting their attention. The point is, thieves can be just as big of heroes as anybody else. On the other hand, they can also be gigantic jerkfaces.Fabian is a legendary hero and adventurer... in his own mind. People should have heard of his brave and noble exploits far and wide, except of course for the fact that they haven't. He is a pretty skilled thief though, even if he does have delusions of grandeur. When my parents were recently cleaning out their house my Mom discovered some of my old stories I wrote when I was a kid. I was tempted to read them right away, but upon realizing I had created a table of contents with titles, I thought it might be fun to write new stories now with the same titles and see how they compare to my efforts at age 8. To be clear, I have not re-read the old stories and I don't remember writing them at all. After I finish writing a new story with the same title I will read and type up the old story and both versions will appear in this collection for comparisons sake.…

Like pretty much every writer out there I have a whole lot of random stuff stockpiled. Some of it is actual completed short stories. Some of it is things I started but never finished for one reason or another. Some stuff is just the odd sketch of an idea. Some of it I think is actually pretty good. Some probably not so much. Rather than have it all sitting around collecting dust and not doing anybody any good, I thought I'd start posting it here. Just going through the stuff I've found I've already been inspired to complete a couple of things, which is good. I figure I can also add to this as new random ideas pop up. So think of this as sort of an ongoing, unending collection of odds and ends. A veritable junk shop, if you will, that gets in new stock from time to time.…

This is a short work I wrote in college. I had misplaced it for awhile and then recently found it again. Then I lost it again for a bit, but located it once more and decided to share it here. It details the first manned mission to Mars and the more or less colossal bungle that's made of it. This story makes reference to the old Viking probes, but not the Curiosity Rover because that hadn't been launched at the time this was written and I'm far too lazy to update this. After posting this I realized it also makes reference to Pluto as a planet, a title which has since been stripped from it. That will remain unchanged as well because I still like to think of Pluto as an underdog planet.Anyway this was an important early work for me in that I definitely felt it was the best thing I had ever written up to that point, and it probably was. It also had the distinction of getting rejected by my school's literary magazine 3 times! This includes one time where they strung me along for awhile sending me notes about how it was a finalist for consideration before it ultimately got rejected in favor of a story about a depressed college kid who thinks about sex and death a lot and eventually attempts suicide. I believe there were two other stories in the same edition with the exact same premise. I guess this just didn't fit the "tone" they were going for. But it's okay because now I present it here for the first time online. Hope you enjoy.P.S. What's the deal with my fascination with chickens? I don't know. They just crack me up for some reason.…
