What made Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer act the way they did? Why did Moriarty become an evil genius matching wits with Sherlock Holmes, instead of becoming a doctor that helped the helpless? These are questions readers ask themselves; it’s what keeps them coming back to genres like police/crime, thrillers, and suspense novels. These genres are page turners and the market for them continues to grow. One problem though, it’s a rarity that an author attempts to delve into what makes their villain tick. This is not the case for my first novel, The Other Side of the Looking Glass. The Other Side focuses on the point of view of the villain, a serial killer. It’s his side of the story. Each chapter is a journal entry, the killer sketching down his every thought, deed, rendezvous, and inner dreams. It’s his attempt to corrupt the reader, to show that he is no different then anyone else.…
