sam and bucky watched you from a long distance, completely in silence.

you stood in the yard of the place you were currently residing at. since the three of you had time to spare and train, you decided to practice throwing the shield.

the disk was large, hiding your upper body easily when held in front of you. despite its size, you were surprised to find the metal light and versatile.

the early morning air chilled your skin, but you didn't bother with a jacket. you were about forty minutes into your practicing; throwing the shield as hard as you could before retrieving it. you also tried bouncing it between trees.

the throwing was the fun part, but walking back and forth was starting to get boring.

it got hidden in the bushes, or sometimes lost among the dense forest surrounding the property. you even launched it into the lake behind the house by accident the other day.

sam had to dive in to get it. he wasn't happy.

bending over to pick up the vibranium disk off the brown grass, you shuffled across the yard once more. you internally called this your last throw before going in for breakfast.

standing on your mark, you slid your arm through the two thick leather straps.

rolling back your shoulders, you did a few casual twists with your torso for practice before the actual throw.

when you felt you were ready, you started to wind back your body. picturing how steve, sam and bucky threw the shield, you tried to copy that.

a forceful grunt escaped you as your body spun around, your dominant arm leading. when you did a full turn, you unclenched your hand and allowed the disk to fly. planting your foot on the ground for stability, you watched with wide eyes and bated breath.

the shield seemed to glide smoothly through the air like a frisbee before sinking into your targeted tree with a solid thunk.

blinking in shock, you squealed before rushing over to it. the blunt edge of it was sunk into the bark and pride bloomed in your chest. grabbing it, you tugged at it.

your smile fell as you realized it was too far into the tree for you to get out.

❝oh, shit.❞ you hissed at yourself, glancing around to see if anyone was in sight.

bucky and sam smiled before sharing a casual laugh. they stood in the sunroom, watching through the screen windows.

bucky took a sip of his coffee before glancing at sam, ❝should we help Y/N?❞

sam shook his head, gesturing his own mug towards you. ❝they've got it.❞

the two watched you pushed down and sharply twist the shield, breaking it loose with another crack from the aged bark.

the dark wood now had a wedge taken out of it, and you gasped nervously. hopefully sam didn't care too much about his trees...
