After the last siren went signalling the close of school, I packed my books into my bag as my Civic Education teacher walked out of the class. I hitched my black bag over my shoulders and walked out of class towards the Art 2A class which was right in front of mine. I watched as Pelumi laughed her head off at what a boy in her class was saying.

"Pelumi!" I fiddled with the straps of my bag as Pelumi turned her attention to me. She waved her friends goodbye and strolled over to me. "You're a show spoiler o I swear" she wrinkled her nose at me "Kingsley was just telling me about how Gladys was throwing herself at Chris and he turned her down" she giggled, it was obvious that she was enjoying herself and I rolled my eyes at this.

She was definitely the pot calling the kettle black in this case because she doesn't realize she does the exact same thing.

We stroll through the corridor of the classroom area and out to the walkway that led to the admin block area. Students spilled through the entrance unto the school grounds. Some students loitered waiting for the school bus or their parents.

Pelumi was too busy talking about God knows what when she— unfortunately for me— spotted Chris. I groaned as she left me behind to go and talk to him.

Chris as usual was always with his group and by his group I mean the selected few that were cool enough to hang out with him. Chris as expected is their head since he had all the swagger and charisma then followed by Emeka who was in Social 2A, Darlington and Tari from Science 2B and lastly Tonye Collins from Art 2A.

They were easy to talk to but you had to talk with sense and reason or if you were a girl and you wanted them to give you as much attention then you had to be really fine, have big breast, big butt or if God was being generous when He created you, all the things from the list or two.

Fortunately for Pelumi she was fine and by fine I meant beautiful. Her Yoruba genes left her darker than the rest of us but she was pretty in the face and she was the first between the both of us to grow breast and luckily hers were bigger and she had a sizable butt, not too flat and not too big, just there. This was definitely one of the many reasons why Chris even spoke to her, his eyes roamed over her body.

"Pelumi!" I shouted impatiently, which startled her when I got close to them. She was clinging unto Chris like her life depended on it, "Let's go na!" I gave her a knowing but impatient look.

"Walk ahead, I'll meet you" she hissed at me and I gave her and the boys a look before walking away from them. I was very self conscious and uncomfortable as I left, I practically felt their eyes on me which wasn't a good sign because it meant I would soon be the topic of their discussion.

Pelumi appears beside me with a frown on her face. "What's doing you?" I asked eyeing her with an irritated look on my face. Her eyes snapped to me when we finally walked out of the school gate— we were taking a cab home, thanks to my mother.
"It's you" she said
I give a her this confounded look "what did I do now?"

"Chris thinks you don't like him" she narrowed her eyes at me suspiciously and I looked away. "Abeg leave that talk" I was blatantly avoiding that topic. Pelumi grabs hold of my arm "Don't tell me you hate him?!" It comes out more like a statement than a question, she frowns at me and I snatched my arm away from her.

"I don't. Hate. Him." I say through my teeth but still don't look at her "neither do I like him, he's just... There" I give her a side glance and she had this thoughtful look on her face like she was considering something for a moment then she spoke "well as long as you don't hate him then it's fine by me"

I scoffed and looked away, after spending two years ogling the back of his head in class it was sure enough to say I had a stupid liking for him, probably— I grimace— a stupid crush which I hated because I disliked a lot of things about him.

I mean what do you expect me to do when this lanky annoying brat I knew in junior secondary school returns from a three months break after junior WAEC exams looking like as if God sculpted him on a Sunday and worst of all only to return with a bigger ego to his stupid big head.

"Asira!" Pelumi shook me "are you even listening to me?"

I blinked at her "Sorry I was distracted" by the thoughts of an egotistical idiot, I completed the sentence in my mind "what were you saying?"

She eyes me suspiciously for a while before repeating herself "I was saying that Chris invited us to a party and—"

"I'm not going" I cut her off before she could finish her sentence "and since when did secondary school students start hosting parties?, We're in Nigeria not America o" but this didn't ruin her good mood.

"Ehen?! So?! Abeg forget that thing" she pauses for a second like she just thought of something "And no, he is not the one hosting it, he said it's his cousin's friend's party and they'll be taking his mother's Sienna since his parents are traveling on Friday for a wedding holding on Saturday"

"I'm still not going"

"That one is your business, after all I'm not begging you, as for me I'm going and his cousin is driving"

I frown at this "You don't even 'know' this cousin of his"

"Ehen?! So?! Sha all I know is that his cousin is in University and some of Chris friends are coming too"

I shook my head at her, why does she have to act like a confounded goat. I kiss my teeth and listened to her ramble on about what she'll wear. I hope she's not going to use me as her cover-up excuse when her mother questions her whereabouts.
