Something Axel Doesn't Know—Tucker

We could write about four years of law school, but I'm going to save everyone the pain and suffering by writing a brief summary that will suffice just as well.

Axel was born a lawyer. I was not. Axel went out every weekend to party and fuck and drink, but I was lucky if I even saw the light of day once per weekend. All I did was study. No matter what.

Even so, somehow Axel managed to get the same grades as I did in our classes. Sometimes he even scored higher. On various occasions, I accused him of cheating. He was so mad at me for this, that the next test we had, he purposefully removed himself from everyone, sitting in the far back corner of the lecture hall by himself. He got a 96 on that test. I got a 90.

Axel's brain was meant for law. Mine was meant for memorizing capitals and populations and strange facts and numbers. But still, I graduated Duke Law School and still wanted to be a lawyer.

I had been seeing Maggie exclusively since I graduated Penn State. I had realized somewhere, between the weekly joint family dinners and the late night drives with all four of us (Peter had now decided he wasn't too cool to join us), I didn't want anyone besides Maggie. Ever.

I told her this. I gave her a promise ring, and she accepted it. Axel still doesn't know about that. Maggie and I agreed to save my face (Axel would inevitably get a few good punches in) for when I was actually going to propose to her.

 I already had a ring.
