I tossed and turned all night long thinking about Courtney. I quietly get out of bed and head downstairs to make some coffee and then I went out on the deck and stared out into the darkness.

The sound of waves crashing was soothing as I drank my coffee. I sit there half an hour trying to figure out what I was going to do.

I watched the sun come up just as Coop walked out on the deck. "I was wondering where you were V."

"I'm sorry I just couldn't sleep, Coop. So much running through my head." I said as he sits down beside me and wrapped his arm around me

"I'm sorry V. I know this is hard for you even though she wasn't a mother to you she still gave birth to you." He said.

"Will you go to the funeral home with me this morning? I'll pay for whatever I need to and lay her to rest then I'm done." I said.

"Of course i'll go with you. Chief must have forgotten to get back to me but he's getting the name of that cellmate for us." He said.

"Well, that's nice of him. I would like to know exactly what happened." I said.

He pulls me closer and I pull his lips down to mine and kiss him. "I'm so happy you are here with me," I said.

"Me too. There is no other place I'd rather be V." He said before kissing me again.

We sit outside on the deck a while longer. "How about a run up the beach to Dad's? Then we will get ready and head to the funeral home." I said.

"Sounds good. Let's go change and get going." He said pulling me up.

I put on my black athletic clothing and Coop changed into some black shorts and a red tank top and put his hat on backward which makes my ovaries sing.

We jog up the beach and make it to Dad's and he was sitting on the porch drinking coffee. "Hey, kids!" He said.

"Hey, dad! We wanted to go for a jog and decided to come your way today." I said sitting on the porch steps.

"I'm glad you stopped by. I was wondering about you all night." He said.

"I didn't sleep well. I got up around 3 am and then Coop found me and we watched the sun come up." I said.

"Are you going to the funeral home today? Dad asked.

"Yeah Coop is going to go with me. I'll pay for her cremation and flowers and burial because I'm not bringing her ashes home." I said.

"That's respectable of you Violet," Dad said.

"It's whatever I'm just not sure what to do," I said.

Coops phone beeps and he pulls it out of his pocket and reads a message. "Chief said that he's still waiting on the warden to get back to him with a name." He said.

"Well, at least he's willing to help us. I want to know if Courtney just pissed someone off or if it was connected to me being a detective." I said.

We sit on the porch and talked to dad for a while and as much as I was dreading it I need to go to the funeral home.

We say our goodbyes and jog back to the house and take a shower together where Coop just holds me and places kisses on my skin.

We get dressed and head downtown to the funeral home. I spaced out a little as they were explaining what my options are.

"Would you like to view your mother?" The guy dressed in a suit said.

"She's not my mother but yeah I want to make sure that she is dead," I said.

His eyes got big then led us to a room where she's laying on a slab with a sheet over her up to her neck. "She is most definitely dead," I said to Coop.

I didn't stay there long I got out of there told the man to cremate her and pick the cheapest urn and burial spot and that I wouldn't be attending the little service.

"My girlfriend is very upset and I'm sorry if she seems rude but really she just didn't have a relationship with the woman but feels she needs to bury her." Coop said.

"It's none of our business and I know who you guys are I saw your picture in the paper." He smiled.

I paid for this to be behind me and was ready to go. I walk outside and get in the car waiting on Coop.

She didn't even deserve what I have done for her. I hope she rots in hell... I watch Coop walk out the door and get in the car.

"You ok V?" He asked shutting the door.

"I am just frustrated and sad that I have no ounce of sadness in me over her death. I only wanted to see her to make sure she was dead and couldn't hurt our family again." I said.

"The chief said we don't have to come into work tonight if we don't want to just take the night off and I feel you need it." He said.

"Sure that sounds good but I won't spend my time crying or anything," I said.

We return home and lounge around watching tv when the doorbell goes off. Coop gets up to see who it is. I hear him talking to someone.

I get up walk into the kitchen and see my Grandpa Davis with some flowers in his hand. "I had to come see you when I heard it on the news. Are you ok?" He asked.

"I'm fine Grandpa thanks for coming through," I said taking the flowers from him to smell them.

I gave them to Coop and led grandpa to the living room. "Wow look at this view Violet!" He smiled.

"Are you really ok?" He asked sitting down.

"Actually I am. She never cared for me." I said.
