Jake was at Shaw's, drinking alone.

The squad felt tired for the hard day at work, and had gently declined his offer, even though he had said he'd pay for their drinks.

It never worked.
He was broke, everyone knew that.

Actually, money wasn't the only thing he didn't have. He also didn't have a girlfriend.

Well, not anymore.

He used to have one. Sophia.
But she had broken up with him almost two weeks ago, so...

It felt like it was only yesterday.
He could still hear her words.

"I love you!"

"...I don't" she had said, softly, almost like she didn't want to break his heart.

Well, it did anyway.

At work, he had started pretending he was over it, acting like he had already moved on, but it still hurted.
He still cried himself to sleep at night.

"...I don't"

Her words resonated in his head, like a song that's been stuck there for too long.

It still burned. A lot.

He actually liked her, he had even said 'I love you' more than once... but he should have known.

She was a defence attourney, after all, and everyone knows that they have no soul.

As he took another sip of his beer, someone sat on the stool beside him, trying to catch the bartender's attention.

"A beer, please" said the girl next to him.

He looked up, recognizing her voice.
It was y/n.

"Hey... what are you doing here?" He asked softly, smiling.

"Having a drink with a friend" she smiled, mouthing a thanks as the bartender gave her a bottle.

"I thought you were tired!"

"Yeah, well, I didn't want you to be here alone... you become really sloppy after a couple beers, and I don't want you to get in trouble" she smirked.

"You really know me well" he chuckled, taking another sip from his bottle.

They sat in silence for a bit.

Not a weird one, tho.
It felt comfortable.

They were friends since the academy, and knew each other well enough to tell if it was the right moment to talk or not.

"Thanks for coming, y/n. I'd have probably done something stupid, without you here" he said softly, looking at her.

"No problem, Jakey" she grinned.

"...Can I tell you something?"

"Yeah, sure"

"...Not here, tho. There's a lot of people..."

"Oh, ok..." she said, confused "Well, we can walk to my apartment, it's just a few blocks away"

"Yes, I know. I've been there many times, y/n" he chuckled.

"Right, of course" she laughed, embarassed "Well, let's go, then..."

They walked silently through the dark streets of Brooklyn, one beside the other.

Jake felt really nervous.
How could he tell her?

He had never been really good at expressing his feelings, and talking about how his break up was making him feel wasn't really as easy as he thought it'd be.

But she was her best friend, she would have understood. She would've listened to him, she would've been there for him, and that gave him the courage he needed to ask her help.

Don't tell Charles, tho.
He wouldn't handle it well.

They arrived at her building, and entered the hall, quickly getting inside the elevator.

As the door opened on y/n's floor, she gave him a warm smile, and led him to her apartment, letting him in.

"Thanks..." he said, sitting on the sofa.

She sat down beside him, looking softly at him.

"I was lying about Sophia" he sighed "...I'm not over her yet"

He looked down, sad.

"I know... wanna talk about it?"

"Yeah... I guess it might help..."

"Trust me, it will" she smiled.

"...Ok, so... ehm... I-I..."

"Take your time, Jakey. It's ok"

She put a hand on his knee, caressing it with her thumb, as she tried to calm him down.

Jake blushed, trying to find the right words to say.

He took a deep breath.

"Where do I start?... I think I really liked her, y/n... you know, like, for real... she was great! She was funny, she liked Die Hard... and I let her go away...

I was happy with her, I loved watching movies together and walking in central park at lunch break with her... but I guess she didn't feel the same, in the end... maybe she never felt anything for me from the beginning..."

He felt tears run down his cheeks, as he kept looking at the floor.

He could tell that y/n was still looking at him, listening carefully at every word he was saying... and, in a way, it made him feel better.

He now understood why girls liked being listened to so much.

It felt good.

"...I'm scared, y/n" he looked up at her, as his sight became more blurry "I'm scared I'll die alone, I'm scared I'll never find someone that loves me back..."

"Jakey..."

"...I'm so afraid" he started sobbing.

"Oh, come here" she said softly, taking him in her arms.

She rubbed his back, as he hid his face in her shoulder, crying deeply.

She felt so bad for him.
He was her best friend, she cared about him, and seeing him like that made her heart heavy.

He wrapped his shaky arms around her waist, melting into the hug.

He felt so much better, thanks to her.

"Jake, you don't have to worry, ok?"    She said, softly moving her hands up and down his back "There's someone out there waiting just for you, I know it... and when you'll find her, you'll regret even doubting it, ok?

...Any girl would be lucky to have a nice and kind man as you on her side, and I'm sure you'll find the right girl, someday... you just have to be patient"

Jake sniffed, slowly looking up at her.

"You really think that?"

"I don't just think that... I know it"
she grinned.

A wide smile appeared on his face, going from one ear to the other, and it made her giggle.

She was so happy she could help.

"What would I do without you..." he said softly.

"Probably nothing good" she chuckled, making him laugh.

She felt a strange feeling in her stomach. Like butterflies flying.

It made her blush, but she tried to hide it, getting up from the sofa.

"C'mon, I know how to cheer you up"

Y/n opened her fridge, taking a six-pack of beers.

"Noice!" Jake exclaimed, walking up to her, as he dried off his tears with his hoodie's sleeve.

She took two cans out, giving him one and opening the other for herself.

"Cheers!" She smiled, sipping it.

Jake grinned, and chugged his, leaving the can empty.

"Wow! Take it slow, man" she laughed.

"Give me another one" he smirked.

As the night went on, many beers had been drank, leaving the counter a mess, as empty cans lied all over it.

Jake and y/n were in the living room, dancing their worries away, as the loud music blasted through the flat.

He had never smiled more.
It was like he had completely forgot about Sophia, by now, probably because of the many beers he had had.

He felt so good, that night.

Y/n had always been there for him, and telling her everything had felt so much better than he would've ever thought.

But it still wasn't everything.
There still was something on his mind.

He suddently stopped dancing.

"What's up, Jakey? C'mon, this is the best part of the song!" Y/n shouted over the music, still shaking her body.

"There's something else I need to tell you" he said, serious.

Y/n, understanding the situation, stopped the music, and sat back down on the sofa.

"Sure, tell me" she blurred.

They both were so drunk...

"I haven't been completely honest with you..."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, there actually was another reason why Sophia left me..."

He sighed.

"...She thought I didn't really love her, because... she said I like you..."

Y/n looked at him, confused.

"And... do you?"

"...Yes, I do" he admitted, looking up at her.

She stared at him in shock, her mouth a gape, as he told her that.

He... liked her?

"I'm sorry, I-I shouldn't have said that, I... I'm just gonna go-

She smashed her lips on his, pulling him closer by his hoodie.

Jake blushed hard, feeling her warm lips on his, and suddently melted into it, embracing that new, yet familiar, feeling.

She could feel him smile as they kissed, and it made her grin too.

When they disconnected, Jake chuckled, looking in her beautiful y/e/c eyes.

"So... I guess you like me too..." he smiled.

"Yeah..." she blushed, moving a lock of hair away from her face and behind her ear.

He slowly got closer, resting his hand on her cheek, and kissed her again, slowly tracing her jawline with his thumb.

She closed her eyes, enjoying every second of that new moment, created only for them.

She felt so glad to be alive, that night.

Jake put his other hand on her hip, making her shiver in excitement.

Wrapping her arms around his neck,   y/n started to play with his curls, softly tugging and pulling his chestnut-brown hair.

He gently made her lie down on the sofa, staying on top of her.

His hands shook a bit, unsure on what to do next. He didn't know if she wanted it too, and didn't want to push her to.

Y/n, feeling his doubt, softly put her hand on his, squeezing it, as she gave him permission.

Jake smiled, and moved it slowly up her side, caressing her back.

He was such a gentleman.

Y/n started unzipping his hoodie, struggling with the zipper.

She felt his warm hand on hers, helping her, and blushed, feeling him lead her down his chest.

Without interrupting the kiss, he took it off, and rested his hands back on her hips, tightening the grip.

He bit her lower lip, making her softly moan, as she opened her mouth, and let him inside.

His toungue fought with hers for a moment. Then she gave up, letting him take control of her palate.

He brought her closer, making shivers run down her back, as his hard chest touched hers, and slowly moved his hands down, getting under her shirt and softly lifting it.

Y/n quickly got rid of it, throwing it across the room, and Jake did the same, smirking, as their lips reconnected again.

Her hands tightened around his shoulders, sinking her nails in his skin.

He moaned, and brought his hand down her body, slightly squeezing her thigh, as she softly did too.

"I think we should go to my room, now" she suggested, breathless.

"Good idea" he smirked.
