Naya's P.O.V.

I woke up on my bed. It wasn't as fluffy as the one from home but it was still comfortable. Everything smelled of fabric softener.

That was the second time Ocean had carried me to my bed. His scent was still there. On my clothes. Sighing I turned to check my phone.

Mum
Missed Call (15)

I didn't even bother to look at the text notification. Groaning, I just about turned away to try to fall back asleep when a knock came through the door.

"Come in."

I wasn't a morning person but it was half past nine and I had been asleep for at least 13 hours.

Ocean's head popped through door. He was dressed in cargo shorts and plain green t-shirt like it was summer outside. I was wearing my long pyjamas and but still pulled my blanket up to my chin.

"There's breakfast downstairs and Macey will be here soon so you can spend the day with her." With that he started to close the door.

"Wait."

He contemplated something before opening the door again. "Aren't you suppose to... introduce me to your pack or something?" I was going to ask Aren't we supposed to do like mate stuff.

But I was glad that I didn't because not only did that sound stupid and immature, it also had an underlying ill-suited implication if take out of context.

He looked deep in thought for a while. A small irritated frown appeared on the bridge of his nose between his eyebrows.

"Do you want it done today?" Even though he was looking at me, the haze in his eyes made him seem deep in his thoughts.

"No but it's that what usually happens right?"

"Yes but we have time." He suggested. "I also have to talk to the elders and enforcer." He's been gone too long and I understood.

"Also your mother called? She thought something had happened to you. I spoke to her but I think you should too."

I groaned once again. I heard the main door open. Ocean ducked out before I could even get more information out of him. I needed to talk to Macey.

"THANK YOU." I shouted through the door for him to hear. I heard the floor board pause mid squeak, he didn't come in or say anything back but carried on walking.

I quickly sent a message to my mum letting her know I arrived safely and the that sometimes the connection is bad. I had no idea how she got through.

By the time we finished breakfast I ready for lesson from Macey on mates. We hardly spent any time together the previous day and doubted I would get any today.

The kitchen was again beautiful crafted. It was medium size with a breakfast bar in the middle with high stools, a dining table with four chairs sat near the window on the opposite side.

The fridge was fully stocked making me wonder when did he have the time to do it. Also I picked up on a common female smell that was partially mixed with Lyons'. Maybe it's his mate.

We ended up again on the sofa under the high ceiling that had black chandelier with branches that resembled the root of the tree.

"Damn they really make everything, don't they?" I asked amazed at the craftsmanship.

"Everything sells for like thousands. I mean five digits a piece sometimes." She was wearing leggings and a woollen sweater. My bugged out in surprise. "I never visited but there's a lake by the mountains and most of the men work there.

"Like the whole place is their workshop. Aaron doesn't have to because he is the Beta and he has other duties but if you're not a fighter or an enforcer, you're a carpenter or a builder or a painter. I mean they are hard workers."

"Everything is so..." I tried to find the right word without sounding offensive. "I don't know... hands on?" She nodded in understanding.

"I know what you mean, I was very strong about going to university and the elders disapproved. Now that I'm not working for any human company, it makes sense to why they would object." I saw her point of view. It was a different environment I had to adjust to.

"How about the women?" I wondered.

"Same with women too, they can do the same stuff as men if they wanted to but most are housewives and others makes clothes or jewellery or whatever they can so they can sell.

But some elders believe that it is important to give the next generations of werewolves a proper teaching about who we are and other supernatural beings rather than human ones."

She paused thinking over something. "I get where they are coming from, well kind of but there's also a freedom for them chose whatever they want to do as long as it serves the pack."

"Growing up the way we did, did you ever think we'd end up here?" I asked picked up my steaming coffee mug.

"That our mates would be from the same pack? YES. I always asked the earth spirit. SAME PACK PLEASE." She made a desperate praying gesture making me smile.

"Speaking of mates... WHAT the hell are you supposed to do?" I carried on. "I mean I'm here and now what?"

"With Aaron, we had to live in the city so it was just two most of the times so we got to really know each other and enjoy each other. I mean I hardly see him now." She explained picking up her own coffee mug.

"Mine is just always gone." I rolled my eyes. "Also listen to me complain and it hasn't even been a week. I feel sorry for him"

We both laughed at that. After reminiscing about the old days before she moved away, we decided to go for a run.

She has never done it here before and I was curious. The sun was melting some of the snow away and it looked beautiful outside.

The pine trees held their leaves but some of the other trees had shed theirs'. It looked haunted and mysterious.

Like the wind that slid past the trees, and made it towards the house was calling my name. Provoking me to break a rule I didn't know about yet.

It didn't take me much to convince her. She was giddy with excitement. It had been a very long time since both of us ran together.

The snow sloshed beneath our feet as we hid behind trees to shift into our furs. A black t-shirt was tied to my ankles with simple shorts.

I could hear each of my bones crack and reshape itself into a light grey wolf. The spirits gave us the power to control these shifts. It was a beautiful gift.

Macey walked out in her chocolate brown fur with green eyes looking cuter than ever with a wolfish grin. We trotted towards the sun. Our vision changed as wolves. The smallest object became more prominent.

The details magnified itself a thousand times. Our visions as human was impeccable but as wolves a ray of energy could be seen bursting out from each object. Senses of smell and hearing amplified massively.

Oh! It was glorious.

We ran for a while, nearing the sweet smell of the lake only to have our view get obscured by heavy stream of fog curving its way around the tree trunks. I lowered my snout towards the ground to wondering why the sky suddenly darkened.

The fur protected me from the low temperature but still I could a slight sting of cold seeping through.

All I could see was the tree trunks around us, dead grass tickling my jaw. Macey poked my side with the snout trying to catch my attention.

She motioned for us to turn around and I did. We followed our own path backwards trying to find our way home but the mist obscured our vision. We were relying on only our sense of smell.

Suddenly my ears perked up to a high discharge noise and instinct told me to duck. I used extra force to drag Macey down with me, only to find a silver object dig itself into the large roots thinning out as it rippled its way in the ground covered snow.

Hunters.

She didn't hear me of course. That hurt slightly. I tried to connect with someone, anyone but I was all alone. We both dashed behind two tree trunks.

I started digging into the snow then the soil to create a whole that I could ball myself behind until reinforcement came.

I watch the brown wolf in front of me do the same with fear in her green eyes. A werewolf was substantially bigger than a normal wolf. Some reached to 5 feet depending on one's human size.

The snow covered trees were wide enough to hide us. Another whistle blew through the air, the bullet dug itself into the ground inches away from me.

I was petrified.

I didn't know the hunters were this aggressive and that Ocean's pack was in such danger. Now I am. I wanted Ocean here. Not because I couldn't protect myself but I had no gun on me.

Neither did I know I how to use one. I felt horrible for dragging Macey into this. I could by her frantic head movement she was communicating with Aaron, giving him the location but the bullet was getting closer and closer.

I quickly changed into my human form and somehow managed to put my clothes on. In human form, the tree trunk hid me better than my larger wolf form and with the dent in the ground, it was stable for now.

I hunched down, remaining as low as possible, Macey followed my lead however, she continued to communicate.

A strange scenery blurred across my vision. Macey wasn't in front of me. It was someone else; a girl. Images rolled like it was from a b-movie.

She looked dirty. Loud guns were being fired from both side. We looked like we were in a ditch but it was endless and narrow.

"You must run, take him and leave quickly as possible."

She extended her hand to give me the bag she had brought with her. Reaching out I grasped her hand-

Macey screamed.
