Ocean's P.O.V.
Present.

"I'll give you some time together, the foods still here. Everyone's gone home, even though your mum didn't want to, Livia managed to drag her home for some rest." Macey hugged my mate before bouncing her way out of the room.

Closing the door behind me, I made my way to her, slowly. Prayed that she didn't disappear into thin air.

She came to me, tentatively. Her hands by her side.

"I like the new look." Her hand reach for my scruffy beard. She leaned into me of her own accord, she was much skinner than before and I missed her softness. Granted we were never physically that close but in our other lives, we were inseparable. "Also the hair..." She ran her long nails through them, brushing them behind. "You look handsome."

She was flirting with me and I didn't know what the fuck to say. She left me tongue tied, like always.

"You need to sit down-"

"I've been laying down for months, I need to stand." She interrupted me, wounding her arms around my waist before she rested her chin on my chest and looked up with those grey eyes. She looked gaunt but she was still the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen. I stroked her head adoringly.

"I'm so happy you're awake." It felt like a dream. She was holding me, speaking to me, seem more upbeat than a recovering comatose patient. No matter what, I took what I got from her. I wasted too many days running from her. No more. I loved it when she bunched her hands into fists while holding my t-shirt, like she was desperate for me. "Are you sure you're alright?"

"Yes." But, she shook her head from side to side. Before I could open my mouth so say something, she put her finger over my lips. "I'm fine."

I took her into my arms, tucked her under my chin, finally savouring the feel of her body.

"I promise I'll be better this time." I couldn't lose her. "I'll tell you whatever you need to know. Just don't leave this time." I guided her towards her bed and sat down making sure her bed was elevated in the right angle for her to lean comfortably. Using the adjustable table stand I laid out all the boxes for her. Her appetite matched mine and I had to smile at her eagerness.

"So you knew about me and had me followed. Tell me more about that." I paused letting her smirk sink in. Before she went under, she acted as if she didn't care about it. Yes, she was angry at first but didn't ask about it later.

"It took a while, I didn't know where you were but I once I found you, I thought about bringing you here. Then I thought about how my parents were killed, I couldn't have that happen to you so I kept an eye on you from far away."

"Is that how you got your scar?" She leaned over, glided her fingertips across my throat.

"Adeya's son Samuel took the bullet for me." Her eyes widened, sight adverted towards the door.

"How?" Her sadness for me touched my heart.

"When I saw their body, I lost it, didn't know the sniper was still there. Samuel was detailed to protect my dad, he shielded me with his body. The bullet went through him ripped my throat open. Thankfully it was only a graze." I shoved more food into my mouth to ignore the pain that bubbled deep in my stomach.

"We'll avenge their death. Trust me." I stared at her, questioning her intentions.

The seriousness on her face alerted me. She looked around trying to see if there was anyone around then she took her phone out from her pocket and typed something to me without pressing send.

I remember everything from out previous life.
I met the Earth spirit and I know what we need to do.
The Spirit told me to not trust anyone. Lea betrayed
us in our previous life. Don't know who to trust in
this one. Don't tell anyone I remember. There's so much
more I need to tell you but not when people can hear.
I need you to trust me.

I stared at her in shock. My brain was overworking because she was remembering. I put my hand on my head wondering what to say and what not to. She took it back and erased it so she didn't mistakenly send it. Then it hit me.

Her affection towards me was because of our previous life and not of who I was. I didn't know how to feel about that. Maybe I was more attached to her before because I knew about her longer, obsessed over her. Wasn't it the same thing?

I tried to mentally contact her then realised why she wrote down the message. We couldn't communicate, she wasn't officially a member of my pack.

Shame filled me once again, another reminder of my failures. It would have been so much easier if I had just marked her. She wouldn't have felt so alone and isolated.

"I'm going to throw her out."

She shook her head vigorously, trying to stop me.

"NO!" Grabbing her phone, again, she didn't typed for a long time. It irritated me for not marking her. For not making her mine. For not protecting her. I was drowning in failure and it was killing me.

I need her to get me to Tiscan. I may know
how to defeat the Darkling. But I need until
the next full moon. You need to keep an
eye on Lea. We need HER to take us.
It will only work with her.

I wanted to shout from the mountain tops that she was a traitor but I guess my mate had a plan. Her eyes were pleading, she kept mouthing "please" and I couldn't say no to her. I wanted to know about the plan but she just typed "trust me" and I did.

We needed to use the traitor to lead us to the predator.
