Calum Pov

It was the first morning I had seen Morgan wake up happy. She crawled out of bed with a smile on her face and hurried me into the shower. It was unfortunate that once I was ready for the day I would have to return to my office, instead of spend my day with her.

Seeing her in such a good mood made me realize that I should've given her more freedom a long time ago. It was sad that I could barely tell that I was hurting her until recently.

After finishing up in the shower, I stepped out of the bathroom to see the room was empty. It shouldn't have surprised me that she left already. With all the days she spent in here, it made sense for her to bolt as soon as she had the chance.

I assumed Morgan would try to spend the day with Ashlyn, since she was the only other person Morgan really knew here. With that thought in mind, I headed downstairs to get breakfast. There was a small kitchen in our room, however, there was a greater abundance of food in the downstairs kitchen and that is why I often ate down there.

The aroma of eggs and bacon hit my nose as soon as I was within a few feet of the kitchen. Many of the women of the pack liked to cook for their mates in there and some of them were even hired to cook meals for some of the pack members. I've always appreciated the smell of food in the morning and this time was no different.

"It smells amazing, ladies!" I looked around the smiling faces in the kitchen before my eyes landed on one woman in particular. "What are you doing in here?"

Morgan stood at the stove stirring up a pan of scrambled eggs. She looked gorgeous even doing something as simple as cooking breakfast.

"I thought I'd help make breakfast. These women work so hard to make me breakfast every morning, the least I could do is lend them a hand now."

"You're absolutely right. So is any of this something I get to eat?"

"Of course. I made some food specially for you."

It excited me to see Morgan cooking a meal for me. It was a small gesture that really meant a lot to me. To do something nice for me after how awful I've been to her proves that she is an extraordinary woman.

"Go have a seat." It wasn't my place to argue with her, so I sat down in my spot at the dining table.

It wasn't long before Morgan placed a plate of bacon, scrambled eggs, and French toast in front of me.

"Enjoy." Hesitantly, she placed a small kiss on the side of my cheek. Even such a small display of affection brought me the urge to mate with her. Now that I can see how beautiful and amazing she is, all I wanted to do was make her mine in every way possible.

The food that she made me tasted delicious. It was unfortunate that I didn't know how good of a cook she was until now. Not giving her a chance sooner would be one of the greatest regrets of my life.

I finished up the food on my plate and went into the kitchen to show Morgan my gratitude. "Breakfast was wonderful. Thank you."

"You're welcome."

I left the kitchen to return to my work in my office. After a good morning with my mate, going over paperwork for the pack was the last thing I wanted to do.

My mind often wandered to think about Morgan, but not usually as much as it did today. She was surrounded by guards and faithful pack members. There should've been no reason to worry, yet even the pack house could not provide the level of security our room had the past couple weeks. It was like my thoughts couldn't settle unless they knew exactly where Morgan was and what she was doing.

To outsiders it may seem that I was trying to control her, but the truth is, she controlled me. Thoughts of her consumed my head each second of the day. She was everything to me. There was no way I could ever stand to lose her.

"Good morning, Alpha." Lance took a seat from across my office desk.

"How is training going?"

"It's always straight down to business with you. The men are improving greatly in strength and endurance. There are also many wolves who are becoming of age. We should expect to have new warriors soon."

"That's what I like to hear. We'll be needing more guards now that there's going to be a luna to protect." I skimmed through another file while speaking.

"So you've accepted her?"

"Yes. I have but I'm not so sure she's fully accepted me yet. We're still taking things slow." My relationship wasn't necessarily any of his business, however, he was the only person I could confide in.

"That's ok. It will be worth it in the end." Lance had found his mate shortly before I met Morgan. Though he was also fairly new to having a mate, he had become somewhat wise about the topic.

"I'm looking forward to it."

Lance looked as if he was about to leave but something was stopping him.

"Is there anything else?"

"Yes, actually. There have been some women of the pack requesting me to train with the men." Lance moved his eyes around the room, nervous of what I might say.

"We've never trained women before."

"I will tell them that it is not permitted."

"No, don't." I thought about Morgan. How she constantly needed guards around for her protection. If they weren't able to be there, how would she defend herself? I couldn't bare the thought of her being left helpless. Out of tradition, men were the protectors of the pack. But maybe it was necessary for women to be able to protect themselves. "Tell them they can start training tomorrow."

"Yes, Alpha." Lance looked a bit disbelieving but didn't question me before leaving.

I spent the rest of my day going through the pack's paperwork. It was a blessing to finally head up to my room once my work was through.

At the door, my senses let me know that Morgan was back in our room safely. For a moment, I was content. And then, I smelled another scent that had me rushing through the doorway.
