Ember Harper's POV:

Watching the sun go back down behind the tall trees and hills, I slowly sat down onto my unmade bed. The closed window was now letting orange rays through, making them beam on my face and all around me.

No people were around, only the thick woods made me company most of the day. Nothing new to see, i barely ever looked out of the window. My eyes were fixed on thick old books that were usually scattered all over my bed.

But not tonight. Tonight, my mind was occupied with so much unusual thoughts and hopes. Maybe even plans...

I was sure that I would never leave this house. With so much cameras placed around this lonely house, even as I child i told myself that I would live here forever.

But when I saw the doors to the outdoors world wide open, a small spark of hope woke in me. With the thought of living freely, my stomach seemed to bloom with excitement and overwhelming nervousness.

Suddenly, an aggressive bang on my room door exploded through the walls, vibrating dramatically in my ears

After couple of long seconds, the doors flung open and the face of my step father appeared.

His dark eyes scanned over the room, landing on me furiously after all.

"Yes?" i asked, shyly. I could not dare to talk to him in a normal tone, unless I wanted to get my body bruised again.

The lone thought of the horrid things i went through made me wince slightly, which of course did not escape his sharp eye.

"Why aren't you asleep yet?" he asked, his voice rough and fierce as always. I do not remember the last time he talked to me normally.

"I'm sorry, Father." I mumbled, looking down at my wrinkled white sheets that I was currently sitting on.

He huffed, seeming irritated.

And when he was not?

"Go to sleep Ember Rose, I am too tired to put up with you!" he shouted, bringing up my middle name as always.

He slammed closed the doors as he walked out, making the loud noise echo and ring in the small room I owned.

Hearing his curses being muffled by another door, I could finally relax my tensed muscles and cluttered mind. My head fell back on a single pillow that was on my bed, eyes fully closed and mind expanding to the very edge of normality.

It surely was not a good idea when I thought I could escape a psychotic abuser.

What would happen if he caught me?

i would probably get the worst beating of my life, maybe end up being hospitalized again.

But then after all, I always liked risking...

Midnight crept up, the shiny full moon now rising high in the dark starry sky.

Filling a bag of clothes quickly, I quickly looked around the room one last time. My nose scrunched up almost instantly, a pile of bad memories basically sticking to the plain walls.

Quiet as a mouse, i creaked open my bedroom door and slid into the hallway. Glancing over at his bedroom, I only saw the doors closed and heard a muffled sound of horrific snoring.

With a shallow breath, I started walking down the two sets of hardwood creaky stairs. Standing on my very toes, i walked down the stairs and finally reached the first floor of the huge house.

Even with my nineteen years of living here, some parts of this house were still very unknown and strange to me, but exploring them was not my main priority now.

Taking good looks towards the stairs every few seconds, I started walking over the long fuzzy rug that was currently being dirtied by my filthy sneakers.

With my stomach erupting with waves of adrenaline every five seconds, I started getting closer to the door.

Big, wide white door that I was hardly ever walking through. Only when I was with him.

God, I hated that man. Ever since my beautiful mother died, he has been abusing me out of pure hatred. He did it for his own dark satisfaction, beating me up was like a comedy show to him.

I dearly hoped he would rot here alone.

As I was about to grab my handle of save, the bright lights turned on automatically. With a massive jump, i tried hard not to let out any kind of a noise.

Luckily, I did not. I was too close to escaping, I could not afford a mistake like that.

When I finally made sure no one was directly behind me, i wrapped my fingers around the cold handle and twisted.

The usually quiet clicking sound was now seeming thunderous, making me grimace as i squeezed out the door and finally exited the warm house.

A chilly breeze greeted me instantly, grazing against my pale skin and making me shiver. The late March air was actually a lot colder than I expected it to be.

Without a jacket and with only a thin shirt covering my upper body.

With lungs filled with fresh air, I let my legs start to take me into the woods.

Happiness was now overflowing my body, making a smile stamp itself on my face.

I was happy for a first time in a while.

But, all of that happiness disappeared when I heard a thundering voice reach my ears.

"Ember get back in the damn house!"
