Trintiy

I opened my laptop with sweaty hands as I attempted to log in. It has been two weeks since I took my online neurology exam and I received a text from my friend that grades were posted last night. I signed on to my computer, and opened the web browser going to my class site page. I noticed I had a few emails in my student box, but I decided to wait to check them until after I saw my grade.

I clicked on the grades section and closed my eyes saying a quick prayer, I slowly opened my eyes and scrolled to the bottom where my exam grade should be at.

"Yes!" I jumped up and did a happy dance, satisfied with my grade.

I got a ninety-four percent on it, and that's honestly higher than what I thought it would be. I exited off of my grades and went to my emails, I had one from my professor and two from unknown senders. I checked the one from my professor first. He was congratulating me on my high score and apparently I got the highest score in the class. I happily replied with a thank you and exited his thread, going to the unknown sender's.

"Did you suck the teacher's dick for the highest grade?" I scrunched my face up as I read the email aloud.

I clicked on the next one and read it aloud also, "Didn't you sign the online policy for no cheating? How could you possibly have gotten a ninety-four percent!"

I rolled my eyes and went to the home page, under the announcements section, big as day, there was a note saying I got a ninety-four percent, while everyone else fell below a seventy. I quickly emailed my professor telling him the whole point of online classes is to be anonymous. I appreciate the fact that he's proud of me, but he didn't have to say everyone else fell below a seventy percent.

After sending my email, I closed my laptop and plopped back on the couch. It's crazy how your mood can go from zero to one-hundred that quick. I pulled out my phone thinking about Reem, I wanted to share the news with him, but honestly, I don't even think he'd care. My finger hovered over his contact for a minute before I just went ahead and pressed the call button.

It rang a few times before he picked up.

"Hello? Everything alright?"

"Yeah everything is fine, I just wanted to let you know that I passed my exam. I got a ninety-four percent." I beamed.

"That's wassup, I'm proud of you."

"Come on Kareem you said you were keeping me company, and that does not sound like your sister." I heard a female whine in the background.

"Hold up Cyn, I'm on the phone."

"Uhm, I'm sorry I didn't mean to interrupt anything. Bye." I hung up before he could protest.

I don't know why, but I blocked his number and deleted it out of my phone, and deleted him out of my memory.

Out of sight out of mind. Right?

-

"Hey!" I greeted everyone as I walked into Mo and Korie's home.

"Don't hey to us like you just didn't pass that exam with flying colors!" Dijah ran over to me pulling me in a hug.

I smiled and thanked everyone as they congratulated me, but honestly all I wanted to do was eat, a bitch was starving.

"What's up with the food? Is it done yet?"

"Trey and your brother are in the kitchen throwing down." Mo put air quotes around the last part.

"Now y'all know better than to put Twan ass in the kitchen. He can't even properly make a hot pocket, let alone cook a damn meal." Everyone laughed as I made my way to the kitchen.

"I hear you in there talkin' shit, don't eat either Trin." Twan scolded me as he pretended to stir something in a pot.

"You burned down Grammy's kitchen trying to make noodles." I jumped up on the island to have a seat.

"Anyway," he walked over to me as he pulled the apron from around his body, "I'm proud of you, I knew you could do it." He tightly wrapped his arms around my neck.

"Twan!" I mumbled into his chest. "I can't breathe!"

He let go as I gasped for air, he walked into the living room to tell everyone it was time to eat. As everyone filed into the kitchen, I zoned out thinking about the things that were emailed to me.

"Earth to Trinity."

I snapped out of my thoughts looking around the table, Korie was looking at me as if he was waiting on an answer.

"I'm sorry, what were you saying."

"I said we wanna take you out tonight, drinks on us."

"O-okay, yeah that's fine." I looked over at Mo and D as they stared at me knowing something was up.

"Okay let's eat!" Twan yelled rubbing his hands together like bird man.

The food looked great, they had made macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, sweet potatoes, and greens. And for desert, there was peach cobbler in the oven.

I bowed my head to silently say my grace before I dug into my food, occasionally indulging in the conversations that were flowing around the table.

Everyone had finished eating, and now we were all chilling around and talking. Mo, Dijah and I were outside on the back patio, and all of the guys were in the house being loud playing the game.

"I'm fat and full." Mo rubbed her belly and kicked her sandals off.

"I can't believe you guys are pregnant at the same time, can you say bestie goals." We all laughed and clapped our hands.

"We're just waiting on you." Dijah sipped from her water bottle with the side of her mouth.

"Well, y'all are gonna keep waiting because ya girl ain't havin' no babies, no time soon. Shit I'm still a baby myself."

I took a sip from my strawberry lemonade, and casually looked around the backyard taking in the scenery.

"Okay, spill the tea hoe." Mo blurted.

"What?"

"Why you been in and out of a daze all day, I know something is up so go ahead and tell big sis."

I groaned and placed my fingertips on my forehead as I shook my head.

"As you know I passed my test, but my professor went and broadcasted it on the student homepage, along withy telling everyone that I had the highest grade, and announced that everyone else fell below a seventy. I had anonymous emails from other students saying I cheated and I sucked the professors dick for my grade. It just really put a damper on my mood." I explained to them, taking another sip from my lemonade.

"Girl, fuck them baldhead, dirty neck, baby bottle pop head ass kids!" Monique yelled making me chuckle a bit.

"Yeah what she said," Dijah interjected, "but seriously, you know you worked hard for that grade, and they just upset that they cheated and still didn't pass. Don't let anybody downplay your accomplishments, we are all proud of and we saw how hard you studied for that exam, we know you work your ass off so fuck them anonymous ass people. I bet they won't reveal they self!"

I nodded my head and told them they were right. I shouldn't have even gotten worked up like that, because I know I passed that test off of knowledge and nothing else.

"What else?" Dijah said after it was quiet for a few minutes.

I hate that they can read me like a damn book.

"Well, I called Reem to tell him the good news but apparently he was occupied. It was a girl in the background talkin' about he supposed to be keeping her company, and I didn't sound like his sister. And he was like, 'hold up Cyn, I'm on the phone.' So I said sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt anything, and I hung up, blocked him, and deleted his number." I chugged the rest of my juice like it was vodka.

"I thought you guys were building something, how the hell he have a whole other female in the background. Like, that's way beyond disrespectful." Dijah scrunched up her face.

"We were at the mall recently, and he ran into one of his old friends and when he introduced me, he introduced me as his buddy, and I got upset."

"Sometimes guys don't like their homeboys all up in they busin-"

"It was a girl." I cut Mo off.

"I know you fuckin' lying!" Dijah scooted up in her seat and tilted her head to the side.

"I wish I was." I sat back shaking my head.

"Let's go pull up on that nigga!" Mo stood up but was quickly pulled back down by Dijah.

"Did you at least talk to him about it?"

"Yes, and he went into defensive mode. He asked me what did I want from him, according to him, every time we take a step forward we end up going back two more, he said he been trying to make things official for the past couple of months but I act like I'm either scared of commitment or I have a nigga on the side, and I never bring him around you guys. So I told him it was neither of those, I just don't wanna rush into things and I told him we were good where we're at, no titles, just doin' us."

Dijah looked down and sighed, like she was contemplating on saying something.

"Trinity, do you want to be in a relationship with him?" She asked.

"I mean, I would like to."

"Because I can see where he's coming from. You got mad at him for calling you his buddy, but you said you're good with where you're at, no titles."

"Okay, but still, you don't introduce me to another female as your damn buddy, like I'm a pet or some shit." I ranted.

"Now I see why guys say we're so difficult." She shook her head and laughed. "But on a serious note, if you want to be with that man, you need to tell him, men are not good at reading signs so he doesn't know what you want him to do. At this point you're only confusing him, and that will eventually drive him away completely."

It was silent for a minute as I sat back and thought about everything she said.

"It's too late, he's already keeping other bitches company."

Trey

"Because you're six months pregnant and I said so."

Right now I was in the middle of an argument with Khadijah. She wanted to go to the club with us tonight, to celebrate with Trin, but I don't want her at a club. Am I wrong? She's six months pregnant, a club is not her scene at the moment.

"What does me being six months pregnant have to do with anything? It's not like I'm gonna drink." She firmly placed her hands in her hips.

"If somethin' happens to pop off, that's not only you in danger but my babies. I'm not lettin' nothin' happen to y'all, understood?"

She sat down on the bed defeated as she rubbed her temples. As I continued to get dressed, I kept looking at her here and there because I knew soon some tears would be coming.

When I saw her stand up and head to the bathroom, with a dry face, I was shocked and a little happy. Everybody knows my baby is a spoiled ass crybaby that cries over everything, but she's actually been less emotional during her pregnancy.

I heard the shower turn on and I heard the glass door close meaning she was in. I twisted the knob to go into the bathroom, but of course it was locked. I sighed and shook my head, continuing to get dressed.

Thirty minutes later, she came out with a pink towel wrapped around her body, highlighting her beautiful skin.

"So you mad at me?" I asked, watching her apply lotion to her body.

"Just getting ready for bed since I can't have any fun." She replied smartly.

"You'll have plenty of time to go to clubs when you drop my sons. You can actually run one." I slid the last part in.

"What are you talking about?" She rolled her eyes and walked into the bathroom with her face scrub.

"I mean, you can run our club when you drop the boys. Because...I bought a building that I'm turning into a strip club."

Whatever noise she was making came to a complete stop before I heard her chuckling.

"I couldn't have heard you right." She laughed some more coming out of the bathroom. "You did what?"

"I bought a building last week that I'm turning into a club."

Her face went blank before she closed her eyes and took deep breaths.

"10, 9, 8, 7, 6..." she got quiet but held her eyes shut. "Whew, okay. Why would you go and buy a building with out consulting with me first? And what makes you wanna turn it into a strip club?"

"I bought it because I liked it and I didn't want anybody to get it before me. And strip clubs make a lot of money baby. I'm thinkin' about you and the kids." I explained.

"There's plenty of other things that make money, like schools, recreational centers, gyms. All of that and you choose a strip club!" She yelled with her face turning red.

"Calm down, I don't see the problem Dijah."

"Of course you don't! But with strip clubs comes problems, especially in relationships." She shook her head and stared at the floor.

"You trippin' man, I'm about to head out." I went in to kiss her lips but she turned her head making my lips land on her cheek.

I scoffed and grabbed my phone, before walking out, I told her I loved her and headed out the door.
