ISAAC'S POV

I walked into the kitchen limping and Marini squinted her eyes at me.She looked like she was holding in a laugh but didn't let it pass her lips.

"Did you get hurt playing soccer with the kids again? You know that ball is too small for you that's why you keep tripping."She explained getting into the freezer and retrieving and ice pack.

She wrapped it in a dish towel and handed it to me. I took it and instead of putting it on my leg or hand I put it on my crotch.

"Now that's a new place to get hurt."She said chuckling.

She was so used to treating my wounds so she was always prepared and knew the routine.

"I didn't get hurt playing with the kids."I gritted out.

"Get into a fight?"

"No."

"Then how?" She asked eyebrows raised and face twisted in confusion.

"I got a vasectomy."I announced.

Her eyes went wide and I feared she had gone into shock.

"You what?!" She yelled before she realized she had spoken too loud,"You what?"She whisper yelled her hands on her waist.

She had adapted that pose whenever she scolded our kids and now I was on the receiving end of it.

"I've seen how worried you get in fear of getting pregnant again. I also know you don't like using any family planning methods because of how they affect you body so I decided to solve our problem once and for all. I mean we already have our two kids, that's what we'd planned for so it's okay. I thought you would be happy." I explained.

"I am its just..." She breathed out.

"It's just what?"

"You didn't tell me about it." She huffed and I smiled.

I hopped towards her and took her hands in mine.

"I'm okay babe and it was a simple procedure. Jeremy took me and drove me home."I said and she rolled her eyes.

"Of course he did. That guy is like your second wife."She teased and I laughed.

"Jealous babe?"

"You wish."She scoffed and before I could answer we heard to excited voices yell from the door.

"Daddy's home!"Excited yells came from the backyard.

Two little bodies ran across the room and slammed into me exactly where it hurt making me wince. Marini smirked at me instead of feeling sorry for me. I guess I deserved that. They were all covered in mud from head to toe and so were the three dogs that came trotting in after them.

I worriedly looked over to Marini who was already fuming with her hands on her hips. Mama bear was definitely not impressed.

Abigail's long brown curls that my wife struggled with every morning to tame and put into a neat hairstyle were now all over the place with sticks and mud patches. She was only six and liked to drag her four year old brother into as much trouble as she could. She knew that even though we didn't pick favorites I had a soft spot for her since she was my baby girl and as my little princess and would always defend her. She also knew that Marini dotted on Nikolai so she'd get into less trouble if she dragged him with her.

Nikolai who had been dressed up in all white that morning looked like a puddle of brown mud with his blue eyes sparkling up at us. Marini was right, two were already enough trouble so I was glad I had snipped up everything and now we could have unlimited adult time without fear of having another one of the tiny monsters.

"Why do I even bother?"Marini huffed throwing her hands up in surrender.

"Abi what happened? Why are all five of you looking like the little mud family?"I asked knowing our little story teller hand another interesting tale lined up for us. She always gave the most ridiculous but funny stories to get out of trouble.

"Well Niki got his foot stuck in a puddle hole in the garden. I tried to pull him out but he wouldn't budge. Kim tugged at my shirt to help me but it didn't work. Rex and Elsa joined in pulling at each other tails and we all managed to pull Niki out but we all fell into the puddle on our butts. We tried getting out but we kept sliding back in. It was very slippery daddy."

"Oh really?"Marini asked clearly seeing through the lie and so did I.

"Yeah mommy."Abigail nodded vigorously.

"I watch cartoons with you two. That's like a while episode of Mickey mouse you just narrated. Don't take me for a fool young lady. You just wanted to play with mud and pulled your brother into it. The dogs like messing around so they couldn't resist. Now look at yourselves."Marini scolded in a firm tone to make sure she put her point across without yelling.

Abigail's head dropped down knowing she had been caught.

"Abi what do you say?"I asked arms crossed over my chest.

"I'm sorry."She apologized lip quivering as if she was about to cry.

She knew her tears were my weakness so I looked away leaving Marini to handle it knowing this was not the time to coddle her.

"You're forgiven but I still have to punish you so that you can learn you lesson. No cartoons for the rest of the day and tomorrow too. You'll spend your time in the library doing something creative, with your brother."She said.

We tried to be creative with our punishments so that the kids could still learn from it. Abigail was already in first grade and Nikolai was just starting pre school so we hoped to get them hooked into books. If they became nerds the better.

"Yes mommy."Abigail whispered.

"Nikolai baby why did you play in the mud?"Marini asked using a much softer tone.

"It was fun."He explained smiling and you could almost see little heart shapes in Marini's eyes.

He was definitely mommy's little prince alright. As much as Abigail looked like Marini except for her eyes, Nikolai looked like the exact replica of me except with slightly darker skin just like his sister. The only thing he got from Marini was his brown hair just like Abigail but everything else was all me.

Nikolai was not that talkative, he liked letting his sister lead. She always included him in everything and had dotted on him ever since we brought him from the hospital when she was two. They were inseparable which was cute until they both got into trouble. Nikolai always followed and looked up to his sister, she could do no wrong in his eyes that's why he followed her everywhere. Abigail liked the attention and used Nikolai as her get out of jail free card with Marini.

"You guys will never learn."Marini groaned and I knew it was time to step in.

I called out to Helena who gasped at the state of the two siblings. She was the best grandmother they could ask for who always had candy in her apron. They didn't treat her like the maid which we had taught them not to do from a young age. As much as they loved Clara and Gladys they weren't around much so Helena got most of the love.

"Look at you to playing with mud again."Helena complained.

"Can you please clean them up before taking them up to the library with a few snacks. It's their punishment for the day. We'll clean up here and the dogs too."I instructed.

Helena lifted both of them and carried them up the stairs so they didn't mess anything else. Marini grabbed a mop and bucket and started cleaning up while I took the dogs to the backyard to hose them down. Thankfully the mud was still wet so it was easy to wash off.

Parenting was not easy but it was such a fulfilling job that I wouldn't trade for the world. I liked to take a break but not give it up, that's why Marini and I went for weekend getaways to make sure than we never lost our spark in the midst of trying to raise our kids. Being married to her the past eight years was not an easy road but it was one worth taking. I thanked the heavens each day for my family especially my wife who was the strongest one for all of us.

After I was done with the dogs I didn't feel like getting into the house so I took a seat on one of the lounge chairs by the pool and reflected upon my life.

Marini and I still worked together but I was not her bodyguard anymore. We had all agreed to get chipped just to stay safe and I was now her head of security. The Mombasa branch had grown over the past few years so Marini has offered Gilead a transfer there and he couldn't resist living by the beach. We had also moved to a bigger building when Marini's business went international. Marini and I still went to work together and left together, we sometimes did lunch but not as often since we were both busier with work. Most of the time we wouldn't see each other all day until we were driving home. It was actually better this way because we didn't want to see too much of each other, it was romantic while we were dating but while married it was a different topic.

We made it work though and became the most influential couple of the year in the country for two years in a row so according to the public we were on the right track. We tried to keep our lives as private as possible and even though we did manage, sometimes the media got a little too curious and managed to get a little information about us. It was never damaging but it wasn't perfect either since we didn't like the attention. As long as they respected our privacy and never crossed their lane then we had learnt to coexist with them.

"You know for a man of almost forty you look sexy."Marini commented catching my attention as she sat next to me.

She handed me a beer while she sipped on a glass of wine. We were day drinking but it was a Saturday and we were allowed our fun being parents and all.

"I'll have you know that thirty eight is a perfect age and don't say the number yet, it makes me feel old."I whined.

"What's wrong with forty?"She asked.

"Nothing except that I'm only one year older than you so if I turn that number you my dear wife are joining me soon."I reasoned and that was enough to shut her up making me chuckle.

Marini looked just like she did when she turned thirty and not to brag but I could easily pass for thirty two. We took care of ourselves because we both wanted to raise our kids while we were still healthy and able.

"I feel so drained already. When's our next vacation?"Marini asked looking over at me.

"They are our kids babe but I know know what you mean. I have something planned for next weekend if you are up for it."I suggested.

"Anything to get me out of this house. Gladys and Robert have been asking for the kids so they can go there Friday after school and be back Sunday evening. Where are we going? "Marini inquired excitedly.

"We're flying out to Seychelles."I replied and she grinned.

"You remembered?"She asked in a soft tone.

"How could I forget?"I replied smiling.

Marini and I had our first anniversary in Seychelles and she always wanted to go back but wanted to explore other beaches first. I'd promised to take her there when it was not an anniversary and I was keeping my promise.

"You're the best."She gushed and leaned over to kiss me.

"Only for you babe."I winked and she smiled.

She was still the gorgeous queen I met nine years ago only now she was my soulmate, my wife, the mother to my kids and my business partner.

"Is everything ready for the kids baptism tomorrow?"I asked remembering we had been planning to have the kids baptized for the longest time but always kept postponing it for different reasons.

"Yes I just talked to Reverend Mark and we have it all sorted out."She replied.

"That's good. We have pushed it aside long enough."I concurred and Marini hummed in agreement.

We both lay back under the umbrellas drinking as we talked about little things or just enjoying sitting in silence together. When it was lunch time, Helena called us in for lunch. The kids were already at the table holding colourful papers in their hands. They handed them to us when we sat down and they were apology letters.

"We are sorry mom and dad."Abigail apologized.

"Sorry mommy and daddy."Nikolai added.

"It's okay my loves, we forgive you but you're still serving your punishment." Marini informed them and I nodded in agreement.

"We know mom."Abigail agreed.

Marini opened her arms and Abigail got off her chair to hug Marini with Nikolai joining them soon after. I got my hugs too before we settled down to eat. We weren't a perfect family but we were right for each other and that's all that mattered.

The next day we stood at the front of the same church we got married in for the kids baptism. They had already been baptized and we were now offering our gratitude to God for everything. I was holding Abigail in my arms while Nikolai was being held by Marini. They were both dressed in white with little wet patches in their hair where Reverend Mark had poured water on them. Marini was wearing a blue ankara print dress and I was wearing black trousers and a shirt matching Marini's dress.

We had both agreed to raise of kids with the same Christian doctrines we had been raised in because God had done so much for us and we wanted our kids to be believers too.

After the whole church service we went out to lunch with Jeremy and his wife Isabel who were our kids Godparents. Lulu and James had not been able to make it but had sent lots of love for their niece and nephew. Amani was out of the country too visiting her in laws with her husband but she would be back in a week with lots of gifts for the kids.

"I think you and I are going to live forever."I told Marini as we watched Jeremy and Isabel help the kids play on the swings.

"Why do you think that?"She asked looking at me in the eyes.

"I don't know but even if it's not in this life we'll be together in the next one too."

Marini narrowed her eyes at me skeptically "Is there something you are not telling me?"

"Nothing I promise. You're not getting rid of me that easy."I replied to assure her knowing that she still had fear of losing me form from the trauma of her parents death. It wasn't much but the fear lingered and surfaced if she was triggered.

"To forever then."She cheered.

"And ever."I replied clinking our glasses together.

We shared a kiss sealing the deal.

Continue being the light that someone needs because you were the light in mine.
