ISAAC'S POV

Mombasa was definitely not planned but business is business and where Marini goes I go too. When I had seen Joan burst into Marini's office looking disheveled I didn't read much into it. I thought it was a simple emergency so I sat back and waited. Then Marini got more and more angry as Joan spoke. I had been so tempted to add sound to the video feed but that would have been invading her privacy more than I already was. She then called me over once Joan left and started packing her stuff. I had quickly excused myself to Gilead and answered her call.

She was all business mode when I got to her and had been on a call with some guy named Caleb for the past ten minutes yelling. We were still in the car on the drive home and I wished there was something I could do to ease her worry. I couldn't help on the business side of things obviously so I floored the car, speed limit be damned and got her home in record time. The sooner she got this resolved the faster angry Marini could disappear because her I did not like. This Marini cussed a lot and normal Marini hated cussing.

I parked the car in front of the house as soon as we got into the compound and got out fast to open her door. Her phone was still glued to her ear as she walked up the steps. She even ignored Kim who was trying to get her attention. When she closed the door on his face, he whined and turned towards me with a forlorn look. I patted my shoulders for him and he ran towards me and out his front paws there and started licking my face.

"Don't be sad buddy. She's just stressed." I assured him scratching his head.

I don't know how long we would be gone so I decided to call Jeremy to come pick Kim up.

I put Kim down and opened the door. I took my phone out of my pocket to dial Jeremy as I walked up the stairs to my room to pack.

"Hey bro what's up?" He asked as soon as he picked up

"Where are you right now?" I asked.

"Coming back from lunch with Amani. I'm going to drop her off at school and head back to work." He replied.

"Perfect. You need to come to the house and pick Kim up." I informed him getting into my room.

"Why?"

"Marini and I have to travel to coast. It's sort of an emergency situation and I don't know how long we'll be there. Bring Amani with you. I don't know if we'll still be here by the time you arrive and she has a key card." I explained.

"Okay we'll be right there."

"Thanks man. Drive safe."

"Always."

Then we both hang up.

I grabbed a duffle bag from the top of my closet and started packing. I packed different outfits cause I had a feeling we would be there for a while. I packed my shoes and toiletries too. After I was done I put my laptop and iPad into a small carry on and I was good to go. My gun was already holstered under my suit jacket. I didn't know the kind of situation we would run into when we got to Mombasa so better safe than sorry. After I got it, it was always on me except for when we went to Church, no weapons in Gods house.

Making sure I had packed everything I needed I got out of my bedroom. Marini's bedroom door was ajar and she was standing next to the foot of her bed on the phone. I'd never been inside her room before. It was larger than mine with a huge four poster bed, floor to ceiling windows with the same view as mine of the backyard. There were two white couches facing a TV mounted on the wall. It wasn't a feminine room at first glance with a blend of white and red but it was more colourful than mine.

Her suitcase was already packed by the door so I just grabbed it so as not to disturb her. She sent me a grateful smile which I responded to with a knowing nod before I carried our luggage downstairs.

Feeling thirsty I grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and downed it. I heard the loud noise of a helicopter approaching from a distance. I guess our ride was here. I didn't know that Marini had helicopters and that was in plural. Did she have a private jet too? It circled the compound twice before I saw it land a little further away from the house where there was a good clearing. Don't tell anyone this because I don't have a license for it but I knew how to fly one of those. That's what boredom in the army leads to.

Marini came walking down the stairs dressed in one of her power suits as I liked to call them. Cream gucci handbag in hand to match her shoes, an all black pant suit and her hair in a pony tail. She looked ready to rule the world.

Without needing to be told I grabbed all our luggage and walked outside through the back doors. I made sure to lock Kim inside because I didn't know how he'd react to the helicopter noise. The blades were still spinning but the pilot had alighted and was waiting for us. He shook hands with both of us and helped me with the luggage as Marini settled herself inside. I joined her at the back while the pilot sat at the cockpit. We put on the safety belts and grabbed our headphones. After doing all the required safety checks and reporting to the control tower we were off into the air.

It had been so long since I'd been on a helicopter I forgot how great that feeling was. It brought back memories of me and my army buddies.

It was better than flying on a plane.

"I didn't know you have one of these. Aren't they expensive?" I asked Marini.

She turned to me with a smile "Yeah they are but they paid for themselves. The cost of one helicopter ride can buy me a new car."

"Must cater to some pretty deep pockets huh?" I inquired.

"We use them for tours by the rich and sometimes they are rented by politicians for rallies and other wealthy people rent them too." She explained.

"How many do you have?" I asked waiting to be surprised.

"Five." She replied with a smile.

"Let me guess you have a private jet too?" I teased expecting her to say no but she just looked at me with a smirk answering me with just one look.

How rich was my boss? A private jet in Kenya was no joke. She must be richer than the papers said she was if she could afford all these things. How she managed to stay humble will continue to faze me.

The rest of the plane ride was filled with me trying to get Marini's mind off what were travelling to Mombasa for. The view from the sky was also pretty good and Marini was like my own personal tour guide showing me all the cool places we passed.

A plane ride from Nairobi to Mombasa was about one hour ten minutes and we arrived there in less than an hour so we made good time. We landed on the helipad of a prestigious hotel that I know for sure belonged to Marini. We got off and I grabbed all our luggages. The manager of the hotel was waiting for us and a bellboy. We shook hands and the bellboy helped me with our bags. We were led to the presidential suite where we dropped off our bags and took the elevator to the ground floor. There was a BMW waiting to take us our next destination, Zuri Safaris Mombasa branch. I didn't know my way around Mombasa having never been there so the car came with a driver. Marini took the back seat while I sat at the front.

Mombasa was beautiful but the heat was unprecedented. There were hawkers and tourists everywhere with a lot of tuktuks carrying people around. There were a lot of buildings and even though its one of Kenya's main city's, Nairobi definitely takes the crown when it came to infrastructure.

Thirty minutes later we arrived at our destination and it was not a pretty sight. I should have asked for backup because there were a lot of angry looking employees outside all with banners saying different things like;

"PAY US NOW"

"NO MONEY NO LABOR".

I looked back to see Marini looking angry and sad at the same time. I can only imagine how hard it must have been for her to be let down by an employee she trusted to take care of her workers. The workers were chanting and singing songs. At least it was a peaceful protest though it could turn ugly pretty fast. I wondered how they could protest in such high temperatures. Maybe they were used to it.

I got out of the car earning a few curious glances from some of the employees but they didn't stop what they were doing. I opened the backseat for Marini she got out. I don't think we had planned this properly because once the employees noticed her they all turned towards us looking angrier than they had been five minutes ago. Out of reflex I took a protective stance in front of Marini. They'd have to geo through me to get to her.

They were shouting profanities at her and I felt Marini tense behind me. There were a few guards keeping them in check but they were getting closer each passing second. We couldn't get into the building because they were blocking the entrance. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse a few reporters arrived making the situation escalate. I looked back at Marini who was looking around helpless not knowing what to do. There couldn't have been more than a hundred people there but they were making so much noise nobody could get a word past them. I needed to find a quick fix and fast. These people wouldn't leave unless drastic measures were taken and there was only one way to do that.

Marini must have realized what my plan was because she held back my hand just as I reached into my jacket.

"What are you doing? Killing a few of them will not solve the problem." She yelled at me.

"I'm not going to kill anyone. Just trust me." I requested her.

She held onto my arm for a few more seconds and something about my face must have reassured her that I knew what I was doing because she let go of my hand.

I took out my gun, removed the safety and taking a deep breath shot two rounds into the ground. I knew stray bullets were dangerous so I opted to shoot into the ground rather than into the air. The reaction I was hoping for was immediate once the deafening sound of the bullets rang out.

Everyone started screaming and running for safety not knowing what was happening. That's exactly what I was going for so I grabbed Marini's hand and led her quickly into the building amidst the chaos. Nobody noticed us because they were too busy running for their lives and screaming. I just hoped nobody got hurt. The building was designed exactly like the one back in Nairobi so it was easy to get to the elevators. I pressed the top floor and stood infront of Marini until the doors closed and we started ascending.

"Good thinking but that could have backfired on our faces." Marini said relaxing back onto the wall of the elevator.

"I know but people's flight responses tend to kick in when they feel they are in danger so I counted on that point to disperse them." I explained and she nodded at me still a little winded.

I had been in worse situations than these so I was still very calm and unfazed. I just hope Marini was able to resolve the situation quick before they regrouped. I don't think they would be scared off by two bullets next time and I was only an army of one. There's only so much I could handle.

We got to the eight floor as this building was larger than the Nairobi headquarters and we got out of the elevator.

I expected it to be empty but we were met by the sight of two men in a very heated argument. They were clearly seconds away from using their fists. I was about to take step forward and break them up but Marini beat me to it.

"STOP IT!" She yelled making the two of them stop arguing and turn to look at her.

Fear was all you could see etched onto their faces when they saw Marini. I stood back and watched her approach them with a very angry expression. Shit was about to go down.

I've been to Mombasa twice in my life and the only thing I loved about that place was their Mabuyu, for those who don't know what that is (Mabuyu is a type of candy made from the seeds of the Baobab tree fruit)... They are the bestπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί, sorry just the mention of them is bringing on a craving.

Anyway Mombasa has some of the best beaches along the Indian Ocean coast especially.. I'll tell you in the next chapter.

I love you all.
